This is just a crappy click bait video. The train clearly wasn’t blocking the crossing while it was stopped. It just moved through the crossing like normal, and the funeral procession only had to stop for a minute or so.
So you’re saying you can just use the secondary unit for main power while long distance trains out west wait hours on a freight operator for a rescue unit, even when the train is double heading? Do both units just always break out west or what?
@@Jinnoth Perhaps that is the case, I’ve heard that situation on the California Zephyr. Amtrak just needs to establish their own rescue system somehow. Relying on freight operators is way too unreliable. Waiting hours for a rescue is wild.
@@michlo3393 That is until now. Now that the P42s are slowly phasing out. They could (probably won’t) consider keeping them for situations like these. Just little sidings along the Amtrak system to store protection units and such. Problem is it would probably require a lot more people to operate properly, which is more an issue than the locomotives.
Great catch, I’ve seen the BNSF locomotive shops in the Northtown yard in Minneapolis. There’s always some good stuff there, lots of fallen flag locomotives. Although I’m yet to see a heritage unit.
