Hi! Butter helps with making it soft, it’s a “fat” component that helps the dough. You could remove the butter and just use the water oil flour and salt. It might not be as soft or workable but I could half the recipe, try it and see if it works for you 😊. Please let me know how you go!!
Hi Mel! This happens to me sometimes as well. The time of day, kind of flour, humidity and altitude play a weird factor when cooking/baking things. I’d advise using a little less water or adding in a little bit more flour and then try to bring it together. Repeat the process until the dough comes together. Apologies it hasn’t worked out for you but I hope you give it another shot! Thanks for letting me know, a few folks in the comments have had the same issue as well. 🙏
Thank you very much all things food I am going to try it. I love Roti once again thank you 🙏 I am from beautiful country Dominica W I love God bless your heart and hand.
Hi Fatima, I have not tried this recipe with curd. You could try it, it should still work as it’s adding the fat content it needs to become soft. When kneading the dough you may need to add a little more water to the mixture. Please let me know how you go! 🙏
I make my own ghee. Would it be OK to use that instead of the softened butter? And would I still use the 2 tablespoons? This looks so delicious. I can’t wait to make it!!
Yes, absolutely! You might need to add a little bit of water as you knead the dough as butter has a small amount of water content as well. Make the dough with the ghee and when kneading if it gets too dry just add in a tiny bit of water and continue kneading it. Hope that helps!! Thank you auntie Kim!
Yeah I’ve heard a few people mention this in the comments. Seems like baking powder in certain parts of the world for rotis is very common. I might have to try it. Thank you for the tip Carmen! 🙏
@@AllThingsFood gives the roti a lighter texture and feels, 1 tsp is normally recommended for every cup of flour, you can half tsp at first, see what you think
It really is yummy! Ah that’s so hard! I don’t know if I could go gluten free. I love bread way too much. I wonder if there are gluten free versions of focaccia bread around 🤔
Hi. I just tried this dough and found i needed way more flour than 2 cups before i got to the right consistency. Not sure if i did something wrong but hopefully itll cook the same way as its a very easy recipe!
Again this recipe is amazing. ❤thank you. My sister was looking for a nice soft roti recipe. I shared your video.. Hmmmmm lamb curry with roti is the ultimate! ❤
Hi Maniam! Hmm I’ve never used Ragi flour before so I’m not sure if it would work. However I would suggest halving the recipe and testing it. You might need to add more water depending on how the flour works and feels but I suggest giving it a shot to see how it turns out. I might have to get my hands on Ragi flour and see what it tastes like. Please let me know how you go!
Thanks mate for the perfect recipe. Super simple and soft. I Tried the batter type but too hard to keep the same thickness all over and the other dough ones that you have to leave for an hour to rest etc. If I make several batches in one go how do I go about storing them and bringing them back to life. Do I roll them and place paper in between them and then freeze or cook/half cook them then freeze? How long will they last? What is the best way to reheat them after freezing ? Appreciate your time.
everyone eats this with curry. But let me tell you. When I was living in Malaysia, they served it with sweetened condensed milk and holy crap its SOOOOO good (roti susu)
Ahhhh Malaysian rotis are so damn good! I haven’t had one since I lived in New Zealand. You’re 100% right this combination of roti and something sweet is incredible. As a kid we used to get them with jam and butter sometimes in my lunchbox. What a treat! Thanks for watching the video!!
Hi Andrew! Add in about a tablespoon of flour at a time and knead the dough again. Repeat the process until the dough comes together 🙏 I hope that helps 🙌
