Another vlog that brought back memories of my time in Trinidad. My mother have family in Grande, and I remember us visiting when I was a kid. I don't remember much except that they had a sour cherry tree and a plum tree and it was the highlight of my time visiting. The other memory is early morning trips from Chase Village to Valencia with my Uncle to get gravel. Leaving home at 430AM to get there on time to get a load. He used to pull from a place call St. Albans and another quarry close to National Quarries. Those were some times for sure and seeing those dump trucks on the road was a reminder how crazy those days used to be. Getting loaded was another grand experience, especially when he was getting river wash right from the river with those cranes. You also pointed out Blue Mountain water, that owner moved to Orlando, his daughter married a family friend son. Oh and don't point at the cemetery, or your finders will fall out and we had to bite them... Geez, the amount of nonsense them old folks used to say to us... lol. Nevertheless it added to the experience of living their. I also appreciate this vlog for another reason, I remember when we were coming back from Grande/Valencia we used to turn off the main road to one of those side roads to get to the highway going back home to Chase Village, so now after all these years I know see what this eastern main road looks like on the back end and all those towns. Totally love seeing Trinidad in your vlogs especially places I have NEVER seen before. Thanks, great job as always.
I love this video of you showing Malabar, I have never seen Malabar in this light, it has a beautiful community feel to it. I also did not know Larry Gomes has a stadium named after him. That is just incredible, thanks for sharing.
@@eyes-ears-easy Back in those days, I followed cricket to the max, we saw quite a few games at the Oval as well. test match as well as one day international. What a joy it was, bracing the sun and being out there. And yes, Hillary Larry Gomes :) I remember him very well.
Thank You SO MUCH for posting this. I am sitting on my couch at the very edge of my seat and with rapid heart beats. I left Trinidad as a 20 year old...This scares the living g daylight out of me. Trinidad is gorgeous and dangerous!!!
Lopinot has beautiful historical sites and also beautiful scenery. Lopinot Historical Complex has plenty of history. Some people don't care about the environment. They leave their litter and they don't take it with them when they leave the historical sites.
Thank you for blessing me with another vlog that is close to my heart. I have mentioned this before, I am always intrigued by the houses, 2 stories. 3 stories, unfinished and the ones that never changed. I have to admit some of those 2 and 3 story seem so cozy, I want to be in there while it rains non stop. I enjoyed the Chaguanas route, I travelled through their many times as a youngster visiting my aunt in Londenville. My parents had a friend that lived off Ragoonanan road who had a horse farm and took care of a few thoroughbred horses that raced at Santa Rosa, off course that road looked foreign to me as I remembered it. When you droved passed the old airport, it brought back a ton of memories. The old police station was near the airport and behind it, there was a Governer plum tree that my uncle and I used to go to get plum and sometimes when the police saw us, they would threaten to lock us up. Across the road, my father was a supervisor that help build the water treatment plant. So many times on evenings he would carry us to show us the dams that they grading and building in the back and we also got a VIP tour when it open showing is how it worked. Further up where the Caroni river passes through my uncle and hos friend use to through line and caught whabeen and catfish. I was luck to go a couple times in the early 80's. When you turned the corner after the old airport, that was home to me for a couple of years and many more, my grand mother housed is in that stretch. It is located right where Brea's Delight is, it was a mud/dirt house which is has been long gone. The next 2 houses where school mates of mine when I started school at age 6 attending St Helena Presbyterian and attended for 2 years before we moved to Chase Village. We lived there when dad started working at the Water treatment plan. I have walked that road so many times and by had it changed, it used to be 50% or more dirt homes, with no pavement just open and at times stagnated culverts. The church is still there as we all the snackette/grocery store ran by a chinese guy named Benny. The end of that stretch to the left is still and open field, we attended so many bazars and BBQ as well as christmas parties for the kids. I also remember where the Panam guest house was located, they had so many fetes, I was too small to attend, but the sound of the DJ was soo loud we could here it clear by my grandmother house. Thanks again for sharing this GEM of a video... loved every minute of it.
Thank you Dave for not only viewing but sharing a piece of your history on the channel - I really do appreciate it very much! I'm happy so much nostalgia flooded back on this drive! I have pinned your comment so viewers would get a glimpse of the way things were thru your eyes! You mentioned mud and dirt houses - that was really a long time ago! & the Panam Guest house - I remember that also! Thank you for sharing again and best wishes in all your endeavors! 😊💯👍
@@eyes-ears-easy thanks for pinning my comment and allowing me to share my story , yes indeed it was a very long time. It was the early 80s when those houses were around. I saw my mom "leapaying" using dirt and cow manure. It was definitely an experience as I look back now as an adult and just pretty normal as a kid when I visited my grandmothers house. One of the most frightening things I encountered when I attended school is when we were walking up to the bridge mind you it was an older version in the 80s and I just started walking up the hill and you can see how high the river was and it was gushing. I always walked on the right hand side, and I never looked at it because I was so scared. And there were times when the river was so low that my second year teacher would take us down close to the banks and we would have story time under the trees and ever so often you would see a caiman or 2 pop up for air. All in all it was a grand experience for me just living in that country for 15 years from birth. 🙏🙏🙏
@@Dave1854 Hello dave & thanks again for sharing how things were back in the 1980s! Yes I also remember dirt houses and "leapaying". Always quite scary when rivers overflow their banks! i want to believe teachers would not be venturing near the river these days! 🙏😊💯👍
oh myy my. what a beautiful journey. u took your time and detailed the trip. I havent been there for some 50 years and it brought tears to my eyes. the place is so well developed and nice . ronald gayapersad.
Thank you so much for this video, I was able to see my grandmother's house, where I spent my first 15 years of life before I migrated to Florida 36 years ago, that was incredible, apart from her house where I lived, I enjoyed the entire journey from Chaguanas all the way to, Freeport, Couva and everything in between to Claxton Bay as I travelled that road for school for a couple years (UCB) and was blown away how much the place has changed and built up. I can't thank you enough, places and roads looked so different as I remembered it and the buildings. I remember open land where we had bazars and chair plane rides, Divali festivals and use to play cricket, has houses and buildings. This was indeed mesmerizing as I have never seen the place like I have in this video. Blessings to you for all the content you share on this channel.
Hello Dave and thank you very much for the view and the comment - I have pinned it so its always at the top! It was so inspiring! I'm happy that we were able to bring back so many fond memories and also to show how much the place has changed since you left. Demographics are always changing however, so in a few years the place may be changed from how it looks here in 2024! Thanks again - it's comments like these that bring so much joy to people that encourages us to bring more videos! All the best!😊💯👍
@@eyes-ears-easy You are doing an incredible job at it, I am so thankful for your time, effort and content. This one was indeed close to home. I am still blown away at how far I travelled for school from the age of 14 to 15. My uncle used to take us to Chaguanas so we can get a maxi going all the way and not just Couva and later on I ended up taking the bus. Needless to say that was a long way travelling solo. And yes you are right, the demographics are always changing. My little village of Chase Village have some huge buildings, even heading to Chaguanas along the way I saw the same. I remember school friend homes on the main road which I cannot even recognize. Thanks again #bless
@@Dave1854 Thank you very much again - really appreciate the compliment. & thanks for bring back the reality of how things were in Trinidad in the past! Those were the days as some ppl would say!
Thanks a million for bringing back all those memories of my youth. 1963, my first year of high school and High St was bustling, I guess all the malls have taken away the usual hustle and bustle. Still beautiful as ever.
Hello and thank You for viewing & taking the time to respond and to share your own experiences! My guess is you know Manhin's & Woolworth! Thanks again for viewing & sharing! All the best!😊👍💯
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video of places I've heard of, not all, but never got the chance to visit. I left home way too young and been gone for far too long, 54 years to be exact, but this is still my home.
Hello again & thanks again for viewing and it's always a pleasure to have people comment and share their own experiences on the video - we really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it and that you know a few more places! All the best! 😊👍💯
I recently drove this route but coming from Maracas side to Arima. It was one of the scariest rides I have ever taken in Trinidad. I'm not Trini but love this Island and the sceneries. There was a spot where it left you out in the vast of the mountain road without any rails or trees and just open space. freaked me out. I don't think that I can handle going from Arima's side. lol
Yes it is scary driving there - especially if the drops are on your side of the road! Thanks for viewing & taking the time to leave a comment! I agree - T&T has some really cool spots - all the best! 😊👍💯
Hello Sharon - thanks for viewing & taking the time to leave a comment & a suggestion - they are always welcome! Will certainly do a video of the area soon - and yes it has to be in the day as you suggested! all the best! 😊👍💯
Thanks for the view and your feedback. Haven't heard of an accident in any of the places you mentioned, but you can Google accidents on the road in the video. The information is not misleading.
I always enjoy a drive showing all these environs anytime. It’s more lively seeing the people and what’s happening ❤thank you for sharing this video with us. 😊
Hello & thanks for actually reading the Wikipedia writeup! I agree the way they put it may mean 10 days or 10 days after the start may mean the 11th day. Thanks anyway for viewing and commenting as always! 💯👍
