7:54 does the A/C blower kick off when you come to a stop and the combustion engine stops running? I have a 2002 Prius that has an ICE-driven air conditioner compressor and also has auto-climate control. It is able to run A/C (cold!) with the engine off. When the cabin is mostly down to temp, the ICE will be permitted to idle-stop and I'll get about 40 seconds of cold air (likely using up the capacity of some sort of "cold-sink" in the evaporator because I'm lucky if a nonhybrid gives me 10-15 seconds of cooling with IGN on and engine off.) Once the cold reserve in the evaporator is exhausted, I get about 5-10 seconds more slowly warming air, and then the ICE fires up. It runs JUST long enough to get the evaporator ice-cold again, I hear the compressor clutch snap off, and then the ICE shuts off. I've heard that idle stop cuts the A/C blower in these early Honda hybrids.
I'm getting an SE with the ib5. i'm swapping the woosh 4.3 final into the st IB6 (the ST owners are using the 4.06 from the 5mt) and the lsd, then swapping that on the 1.6 TiVCT. also, after intake and exhaust the mappers in the UK have managed to get it up to 145-150, which is what I'll be doing. I'll be going with the takeda pds and the OBX catback, or even just the ST depending on which muffled system is lighter. on top of that, i'll be getting the DNA front lower subframe brace (the long v-shaped support, not the single beam), the rear adj. torsion bar, hardrace rear sway bar, eibach springs and st struts. the st brakes will be swapped over as well. 16x7 rota slips (~13lbs) with 205/45/16 yokohama advans or maybe even some firehawks if the car is has enough power after the drastic change in gearing. all of this can be done relatively inexpensively. there's even a cat a few counties away selling an ST engine + 6mt for 2500 which to me is a good deal. anyway, this is project Fiesta SE-R, and it's around 10k for all of it. not too bad at all. i don't want someone's ragged on ST either, I can just build my own weird little NA fun cart. I could care less about competing with anyone or status or anything like that, i'm not into cars and coffee or anything like that... just an autistic lone wolf. I'm really looking forward to this as a daily, and eventually if I ever get rid of my fxt swapped 4.44 bugeye, an actual ST. but from the research I've done, this should be a very rewarding NA setup. I can't find much in the way of replacement side skirts, just these kits containing front lip, skirts and rear bumper, which is my current plan along with a painted ikon oem ST spoiler. idk if the ST non-recaros have better bolstering than the SE seats, so if they do I'll just get those. not really trying to put the ST recaros in an SE, I can just get a decent aftermarket seat if i need bolstering. none of these new seats have adjustable side bolsters like 80s and 90s cars unfortunately. anyway, I'm really looking forward to this setup as a daily. if the stock power, which is 120/112 proves sufficient with the 4.3 final and closer ratios of the ib6, then I'll just leave it alone. that means you can just drop the stock units in and go without even bothering with mapping. I really don't want an ST for my daily and don't want two turbo cars, I want to build the perfectly practical NA daily set up for togue since I live in the mountains. I haven't driven for a long time... I am bored with my wrx. I am going to enjoy driving this slow car fast... but this experience depends entirely on that 4.3 final drive. even the ib5 would benefit from it, so even in the case that I can't find an ib6 which would be awkward since they're everywhere, I can still rock it in the ib5.
I’ve had my eye on a ‘01 Insight with 99k miles for $4500. Your videos have been supremely helpful. I commute about 120 miles a day which is why I’ve been looking at hybrids, and I love the old Hondas. Thank you for your awesome videos!!!
i was driving today and noticed my temperature of the car was at max. i pulled over and realized my radiator coolant tank was bubbling, sizzling and steaming out. i turned the car off and added more antifreeze. Even then after i began to drive again about 15 seconds later it began to bubble again. i also beleive that the radiator fan hadnt been spinning. can u tell me what to check please. 2000 honda civic se. thank you
Have you driven it thru mountains? I have and its so much fun. You can make turns so well. So much room compared to a reg car. My gf, she thinks i drive crazy because the car is so zippy. That's with my EPS not working.
Odd, my 2001 PT does not have the reverse there. It's in the bottom right spot. Yours is a turbo, mine is not. Since 2001 I wanted one since we are Swing Dancers. Not so much tommy gun users.
I watched this video a few times and base off your recommendation I purchased a set of PoorBoiz. That was over a week ago and have yet to receive any updates. Tried emailing and nothing. How long did it take you to receive yours from them.
Only the first few years of the G1 Insight did lean burn, can your mod make all G1 Insights have lean burn? Also, can the cars with the CVT be converted to Linsight?
Feels like question 12 was the correct verdict but not the precise reasoning. It deploys more electric power, but if it does not regenerate more as well, you would be depleting much faster than you got charge back. So the true cause of that increase in economy is not because you deployed more power (that is a symptom), but because you must have regenerated at a higher power and thus more of the deceleration was shoved back into the battery and not lost in the brakes. Side benefit, higher deployment allows the engine to stay in lean burn more often, which I am told makes a big difference to consumption too. If either or both explanations are correct, then as a prospective buyer, that gives me some confidence about this upgrade working exactly as intended.
Two thoughts....ONE it does regenerate more with the current hack, and since the vast majority of LiBCM customers add the current hack, that is the norm....TWO regenerating power back is not an issue in terms of economy because one can grid charge to full battery at any time or after any drive.
It looks like your Insight has an extra bushing on the outside of your transmission mount. It’s a big black O-ring looking thing on the exhaust side of the mount. Is that an additional piece that you put in or did later models of insights have that? I have a 2001 CVT.
ive had 8 pt's still have 3 as of today ones my fav a 02 w 5 speed perfect running starts instantly etc ac works all that w 250k had gt's and a convertible ,but YOU have the holy grail of all cruisers -"gt w 5 speed ,which is the top tier . have fun
Hey brotha im looking for headers for that 1.6 4afe but im not getting any luck on finding any. Do you happen to know where you bought those headers for this car? Thank you thank you
Disconnect the negative cable on the 12 volt battery for 10 seconds and then reconnect it. Start the engine and the IMA battery will charge in 6 minutes.
Did you sell the PT Cruiser? We’ve had 2 GT’s, first a 2003. Ran it to 176.000 mile, timing belt changed at 113000 miles. Sold it to a friend, it now as 225000 miles, still no problem. 2005 bought it with 65000, just turned 86000 miles. Both have been 4 speed auto sticks. Just great dependable car, & fun & comfortable. Take Care , God Bless!
The key is to get the car to pass smog check...it fails if there is a check engine light. So the arduino hack wlll do this? Then I can just drive it on gas.
I have an 03 & my reverse is the lower right. It's touchy, though. I have to put in first before it will go into reverse most of the time. I had friends that had older Volkswagens & the reverse was in the upper left. One of them didn't even have a clutch! She would take her foot off the gas & change gears..😮
