in spanish we call them mid-range, not mid weight. And all up from 800 is not mid for me... cb500x open this market in 2013, obviously rivals launched more power and cc, but starts to loose logic ( except tuareg). I think actuall "mid" is the small version of the big ones of each mark: ktm 1290...ktm890, gs1200...gs800, africa twin...transalp, etc.
Get a 250cc or 300cc adv bike and just ride. Heck, get a 150cc if you are lighter in weight. See how much fun youll have. Its not how much power, its how much experience of a rider you are. Get the experience first then youll know what you need. Adv is designed for long road and semi offroad. A line between a cruiser and a dirt bike. But dont have the full luxury of either bike.
They're silly top heavy two wheel tanks. Uncontrollable off-road as shown here. Owned by insecure aggressive idiots who think it somehow makes them masculine - when we all know they're just posers.
Yes! I have been telling people this for years. A lot of HP and mass is a huge liability off road. I had an Africa Twin. Too much of a bear off road. Also had a CRF 300 rally. Great bike that was much more fun than the AT. I now have a TransAlp. Fantastic compromise. The 300 was the most fun bike of all though. If only they didn't come with crap suspensions... If you look closely at the marketing videos, you can often see those big bikes aren't using the same tires that come on them from the factory. You know they mod the suspensions too.
I don't think you can compare a 300 to a 8 or 900. just to many differences. A crf rally is just a dirt bike with a headlight. you do dirtbike crap with it. A bigger adventure bike is for touring the roads less travelled. and occasionally you'll have a mud hole or sand in that road that your bike will make it thru...And most people that have adventure bikes also have dual sport bikes...choice the right tool for the job is what i always say...
@@ShonkyProductions Yes, almost all you see when they promote these bikes are pros doing pro stuff that most of the people buying these bikes will never do..
Entry fee is $3,000 including all meals for the event. It was probably more than $5,000 for me to do the event including bike setup and transport there and back.
@@ShonkyProductions thanks for the super quick Response. Its very interesting to see some one "not professional" at his fist steps and not the "I have a hole pit crew an two trucks with me hear". That's good content. Greetings from Germany
Hi Sean, would you also recommend the 15-41 gearing for a bike with the stage 1.5 set up and the d606 12/90-18? I saw an earlier vid where you liked the 14-41 gearing prior to the stage 4 installation. As with many of us in oz, my riding is usually decent length highway stretches before hitting the trails. I am more of an adventure rider than an enduro. I like to be able to sit in 6th and feel safe on the highway.
It's a cheap experiment to see if it will work for you. You may find that in 6th it lacks the torque to pull over 100-110kph, especially uphill, into headwinds or with luggage.
You dont really need that much power, Problem is a lot of creature and ride comforts only comes in the HIgh displacement, HIgh power BIg adventure bikes.
I hate off-road. I just need a bike capable of accompanying me on long road travel trips with the missus and that's occasionally able to handle small gravel roads and hold the luggage... Not much of a choice...
Haters don't take into account the pride taken in making a bike right for you, and ignore the fact that the cost can be spread over time, and in the places you need it. Each sequential mod can be directly compared and evaluated as to how much benefit it brings and actually makes you better understand what works and why. Keep up the good work!
Cheers mate! The truth. I rode my 12 year Honda SH 300 through the hills, on stock scooter tyres 😂😂😂😂 and through dirt water and mud and had awesome fun 🎉🎉🎉 Ok, that's probably insane but it was 1000% fun chalenging myself to stay up straight... And I had nothing to lose... To me, ultimate all-round bike is Honda NC750 with offroad tyres... Low revs hi torque 54hp is perfect for offroad, and you can do 160 kmph on the highway for 3,8 lit./100km average... Cheers.
Not sure if you can remember the stage 3 much, but wondering what was about the highest speed you were comfortable cruising on the highway for a long distance with that set up. And how did that compare to when it was stock before the big bore kit? Thinking of trading in the DR and getting this with a stage 3 but id like it to comfortably cruise at 120kph, with easy acceleration to get to 130 for passing.
let's be real, adv are just for being comfortable af ripping through tarmac and being able to do some gravel and light off road work. That's why I have mine and I love it!
Ok, dont know what you bought if anything yet, but if you want a more road touring bike that will do dirt try the CF Moto 800 mt,, Now before you say Chinese rubbish remember CF Moto make most of ktm,s bikes and have done for a long time, they are a real surprise, why do I say this, I have one, I bought it used as a cheap adv bike that i can drop and not worry about too much, I also have a Multistrada Enduro 950, i love the Multi but its not really an adv bike even in enduro trim , dirt roads mild tracks is about it , and a drop is expensive, The MT is a hoot, basically a ktm 790 but heavier.. with all the fruit.. just try one see what you think, great vid.
I'd say the "Off-road Touring" bike is what most purchasers of these heavier bikes are indeed looking for: A bike big enough to go the long distance on road with a bit of off-road capabilities. I had a BMW 650GS did a couple trips for long trips from Canada to Cabo and back and all around the NW. My biggest complaint was that the 650 was not a great highway bike, which was 90% of my ride, would have traded it in for a nice 1250 any day! It was way under-powered to keep up with traffic with a full long journey load. Now if you wanna go up and down sand dunes and one tracks - Awesome get yourself a dirt bike, that's what they're for and that's an awesome "Adventure" too! My definition of "Adventure" is travel to many places, meet interesting people in interesting cultures and once in a while go off track, in other words: Give me a large Adventure Bike... So I don't see the gist of this video being completely on the mark, just depends on what you want to do...
It is your money and your time of course, but buying a cheap bike and spend so much for what at the end it is still a cheap bike makes little sense to me.
Manufacturers are using the term loosely as it sounds better, but they also publish bike specifications with wet and dry weights. They are not trying to convince you it is a literal 'mid-weight', it just sounds better than 'mid capacity'. I don't think its a fair argument to compare it to boxing, and then call it a 'scam'.
2018 vstrom 1000 weighs less than the 2024 vstrom 800… cb500x isn’t a middleweight? This video honestly makes a great point. It really is just marketing
Haha... I did say to was a pre-ride. We had no idea how bad the tracks would be. and, with the rain in the area... it made everything harder! I have mapped out a big bike friendly loop taking out all the hard stuff!
How did the crash bar hold up on your TREEmendous wreck? Did it prevent the plastics from damage? I love the content, makes me want to get out and ride.
Great question. It worked well because there was no damage at all. I probably dropped the bike 3 or 4 times that trip and have no damage. I don't even realise the crash bars are there anymore. Thanks, I would definitely recommend riding more!
hmmm i have a stock crf300l rally 2024 with stock tooth setup and no problems at all with 6th gear from 70km/h im cruising 110-115 between 6k -7k rpm and when overtakeing i just twist throttle to fulll and it pulls to 135 km/h no problems. Also im 1.92m in height and 112kg in weight.
@@Andriesdemotorrijder the stock Speedo is a little optimistic to say the least. I have changed the bikes gearing with different sprocket and tyre sizes to make the speedo accurate (confirmed by GPS). You may be surprised, and a little disappointed by your actual speeds.
Love it! I have contemplated trading CRF Rally for T7 but watching your video gives me a renewed appreciation for just how much more capable the Rally is in the dense terrain versus the bigger twins.
There's an event in the US called Tour of Idaho and the riders are required to carry a chainsaw. You should look at their setups for these exploratory rides.
