Ren Garcia, author of the League of Elder book series, presents a mixed bag of cool things: old movie reviews that devolve into recollections of his past, poetry, TV shows, trumpet-playing and much, much more.
15:46 I don't know if you are being facetious here, but closing your mind to Dimentia 5 obviously takes alot of will. As intelligent as Athom and the scientists on Gorth were, they weren't strong enough to accomplish it. This is amazing science fiction.
I totally appreciate the thought, but it makes no sense. Spiderman, after just a few seconds while he's falling to his death is able to do it, so Athom, with full knowledge of the situation and unknown mental skills above and beyond Spiderman's (his use of telepathy) should also be able to do it. In Rocket Robinhood, which this episode was ripped from word for word, Robin and Little John (who is not a big brain guy by any means) also do it. In any event, it's fun stuff despite its flaws. Cheers!!
@rengarcia5189 Good point about the mental skills. I still like to believe my theory, as it's a clean explanation. I would say the Gorth scientists with their high intelligence and telekinesis, still weren't able to will their mind away from Infinata When he attacked their galaxy. He was just too overwhelming. Especially when your galaxy is exploding around you. This is why Little John (I'm more familiar with the original Rocket Robin Hood version) was able; his (low) intelligence didn't matter, it was his strength of will. And I would speculate that mostly came from his complete trust in Rocket Robin. When Rocket told him it was possible and to do it, John's resolve was 100% clear.
Dude you wasn't helped you were violated man I feel sorry for you right now man I would know I've been there here's the sad thing I live in a state what do you think a drug and a shot are the only options besides the doctors and therapists in this state are only for the money and and Sadly they treat everybody like a dang charity case
Interesting how perceptions differ. For me the clown represents him as the clown in the play of the woman. Also the next cut is a spider web which I think is not by accident.
No sequel. The local judge hates Ned and Florida is an eleventh circiut state........poor Ned gets the chair. As now the coroner has declared her dead Ned, now on death row, realizes that Kathleen Turner has pulled off the perfect crime.
Ren, this plot follows the cliche', "The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men", to a tee and is why I've loved this story from it's inception....The very clever and well thought out scheme of Mary Ann Simpson covered all reasonable possibilities, except for one!...She was not supposed to, actually, fall in love with her intended "patsy"...The only words of truth that she ever uttered through the entire charade was at the boat house, when she admitted to "Ned" that she had, in fact, fallen in love with him...She said to him, "That was not supposed to happen!"...But, it did and by this time it was too late....Therefore, the last scene shows Mary Ann accepting a drink from someone that she is not very interested in as she gazes out into the distance, alone...She had lost the big prize, happiness!...The epitome of the ill fated, star crossed lovers...
Louie, those are some interesting thoughts. The great thing about this film is unanswered questions. Did Kathleen Turner fall in love with Ned?? Possibly, she said she did, but she said a lot of things. Certainly, a person like Mary Ann Simpson wouldn't let a little thing like that get in the way of her plans. Ned is just one of many people she used and ultimately discarded, love or no love. I also think that the final scene does pose a nu.ber of questions: Does she miss Ned? Does she feel remorse? Or, is she feeling unfulfilled--that she finally got what she always wanted and now has to live with all the old bones and haunting memories of the past, thinhs she can never escapeno matter where she hides?? Who knows... Cheers!
@@rengarcia5189 Yes Ren, I'm not writing the sequel but I am writing something that this tragedy inspired...There are so many stories out there telling of ill fated lovers that are actually true!...I wouldn't be surprised if "Body Heat" had some threads of truth in it!..My story follows a beautiful couple drawn into the Hollywood scene when the man is discovered at studio 54 as a male model...They failed to respect their love and broke every mandate, drugs, alcohol, love affairs...Their misguided course eventually destroyed them...Both are now, unfortunately dead...I am the only one left behind to tell their story...I call it, "The Twisted Triangle"...
What a great review! Such an amazing film. It haunts me, the moment when he realizes she is Mary Anne « The Vamp ». One of my all time favorite movies ❤️.
Excellent synopsis Ren. I really enjoyed that. I would also add the scene where Maddie hands an envelope to Mary Ann right after Ned mistakes her for the other. Proof of a payoff, which resulted in Mary Ann/Maddie being disposed of. Such a cool movie.
This was on TV occasionally when I was a kid. When I was younger it was known as the movie with the eel, written by the guy that wrote JAWS.😅 It wasn't until I was in high school and watched it with my Dad that I truly appreciated the film.
Well it is a beautifully shot movie, I think it has a lot of problems. For starters, it’s so boring. It has an interesting premise with a couple finding treasure and getting involved in a drug trade. But the couple is not that interesting and Jacqueline Bisset seems to only be there for sex appeal given she wears a white t shirt wet and her nipples visible. This movie had so much potential but it’s just a snooze fest.
Did you notice that when he went into the bathroom after meeting Turner for the first time there's a young blonde man. Just standing there. It seemed like foreshadowing but he didn't really enter into the rest of the plot right?
I think seasons 2 and 3 are much better than season 1. "Revolt" is easily my favorite episode. Watching these in 1978, I was only 8 or 9, but I knew then, that this was a darker cartoon than other things on at the time, and because of that, it still stands out in my memory, today.
Thanks for bringing the memory of this haunting movie back to me. I agree with one of your commentators though, and think that the sequel would spoil the mystery of the original. Keep it mysterious forever… I enjoyed your review a lot! Thanks PS. Have you ever considered that she really did fall in ‘love’ with him in the process. She looks unusually ‘nostalgic’ on that beach in the mystery location… she also did tell him she loved him in their last scene together… she didn’t have to did she (for the sake of the plot)?
I just watched this! I am so happy to find someone who feels this way about the scene where she arrives at the Jefferson institute! I saw this when I was 10 or 11, my mum. And dad was watching it one evening while I was in the living room. I get a weird feeling of fear when I see that scene every time! It's amazing to me! Great review!
This is the first time I have laughed out loud in months! You are a very funny man in my books Ren. And 50 years later I never forgot this episode either. Thank you very much.
Never trust a woman u just met that wants her husband dead & stands to inherit a lot of money. Plus Mattie obviously married for money so ned was that gullible he really thought she would stay w/ him & share all that $$ w/ him? When he found out Mattie had only days later after the murder had lied & connected him w/ the will , Ned should have immediately went to the cops & struck a deal in exchange for giving of Mattie. Danson & the cop played by j.a. called it right about one day his d@ck was gonna get him into trouble. It's hard to have any sympathy for Ned as he killed a man & honestly believed that this sexy woman now wealthy would want his small time butt. Mattie was such a brilliant master mind. When I was watching the movie & in the will scene I figured it was no coincidence that she happened to meet a lawyer who she needed to now go along w/ that he executed this purposely messed up 2nd will. She was so smart she even faked her own death. Such a great film w/ the Hitchcock like ending. Not surprised kasden wrote a script to be influenced by Hitchcock. He had written movies for speilberg & Lucas & both those guys esp Spielberg has praised hitch as the " master " kasden it stands to reason being associated closely w/ those 2 that he'd be influenced by hitch as well.
Dude I don't blame you, I was really upset too but how bad they did the whole trilogy, but if I had to sit through that in the theater I would have yelled at the end of the movie "THAT WAS GARBAGE!" And I would demand my money back for the ticket. Ennie Ardi is a hero
Yep, yep. You know, my niece and nephew weren't alive the previous time Michigan had beaten OSU. Usually, in a rivalry game, it's good for both rivals to win occasionally or it isn't really a rivalry, is it?
YES, I'LL PUT IN MY COMMENT." THE DEEP"IS A PERFECT MOVIE,IN FACT I BOUGHT THE MOVIE (📀 DVD) AND WATCHED IT SO MANY TIMES OVER THE YEAR'S I THINK THE LASER WORE A HOLEL RIGHT THROUGH THE DISC.NOT TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT,I BOUGHT MYSELF A METAL DETECTOR ABOUT 3-4 WEEK'S AGO AND YES I'M FAMILIAR WITH "MEL FISHER"(MY PARENT'S GOT THE CHANCE TO MEET HIM) AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE MOVIE WAS SOMEWHAT ABOUT THE LIFE OF "MEL FISHER", SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT I'M IN THE MOOD TO WATCH A EXCELLENT 👌👍,A1,NO1 MOVIE SHOWING SCUBA DIVING 🤿 AND TREASURE HUNTING AND THE 1ST MOVIE I THINK OF: THE DEEP! IN FACT THE ONLY MOVIE I THINK OF PROBABLY BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY MOVIE EVER PUT OUT THAT SHOW'S SCUBA DIVING AND TREASURE HUNTING.---NOW AS FAR AS THE MUSIC IS CONCERNED,AND HERE AGAIN, IT'S A1,NO1.WHEN EVER I HEAR IT, LET'S GO DIVING, BRING THE METAL DETECTOR AND HIT THE JACKPOT!!! I LOVE THAT MOVIE AND THE MUSIC TO IT.
At the end of the movie, the scene with Matty Walker was shot in Hawaii on Tunnel's Beach on the island of Kauai), BUT the scene is set on Sugar Beach in St Lucia, as evidenced by one of the Grand Pitons in the distance. The man speaks to her in a French Creole dialect commonly found in the Caribbean Islands and the West Indies.
The 1st season of Spider-Man was filed with a routes gallery of Spidey's dealt foes! You've got your Doc Ock, your Vulture, your Mysterio, your Green Goblin, your Parafino, your Noah Body and your Human Fly Twins! But for the 2nd and 3rd seasons, the series went psychedelic, thanks to Ralph Bashki, who head the wall-to-wall crawler into an entirely new direction!
I really wish that the current spiderman movies would employee the theme of spiderman vs dementia 5 character along with the episode when spiderman takes on the demon Kotept sorry for spelling Turn a few spiderman movies into a horror genre
@@ryanflanagan8793 I created it about, I don't know, twenty years ago on a crappy version of PP. You can do a lot with PP if you have the time and put up with its quirks. Cheers!!
