Fast forward my family ended up in Glasgow for many generations until my father left for England and met my mother. ( who's family came from Ireland) But many generations my family have mixed Irish and Scottish hence my name scots-Irish. What is this? This is Vercingetorix, Celtic Gaul ( lived in what is now France ) and fought the Roman invaders under Julius Caesar. He ultimately lost the fight and was taken as a prisoner to Rome and some years later, strangled by the Romans. This is nothing to do with Ireland, except that he was a member of the wider Celtic family.

I'm proud of my Celtic ancestry. Both sets of grandparents and great-grandparents are all Irish,I was married and gave up my Irish maiden name,I'm going to court in two months to get it back and am already using it on fb.

Only problem is the gaels of Ireland never fought the Romans. The Roman empire had no interest in Ireland. Irish mercenaries and Irish in the western highlands of Scotland did fight the Romans, though.
