Gal’s Guide has opened the first independent women’s history library in the United States to preserve, collect, share, and champion women’s achievements and lessons learned. We utilize the books and materials we uncover to shine a spotlight on amazing women of history who have been waiting in the shadows of history for too long. We have three podcasts: Gal's Guide Podcast, Your Gal Friday and Kate's Take. We also offer school outreach programs.
she is not the inventer of wifi , it was invented by vic heys . and wifi don t use (FHSS) it use (DSSS) it was invented by Gustav Guanella . so stop disinformation!
"The Gal Pals talk about their adventures in recycling, fickle pickles, and the Danish Semiologist" semiology=semiotics is the study of signs. Inge Lehman was a seismologist = study of earthquakes
Molly was a friend of mine in the late 1970s when she was acquiring her degree at University of Vermont. She rented a room at our house. She was a wonderful person to have around.
you can't even process the meaning of Lord Mansfield or retain information from the show.... Lady Elizabeth's name never disappeared. infact, the previous placque on the painting only contained her name " Lady Elizabeth Finch Hatton, eldest daughter of 2nd Earl of Mansfield, mother of 10th Earl of Winchilsea and Earl of Nottingham by Johann zoffany" they even added Lady Elizabeth's son to the placque....
you can see this in the record book... the archivist just shortened it for the show, her point being the painting was just named Lady Elizabeth's potrait and nameless attendant... obviously it wasn't just one word Lady Elizabeth, it contained the one i just said
Thank you so much for these chapters. This is one of my favourite books but I have never found a copy with all three parts. I have read the book twice from the library. These excellent readings mean a lot to me. Thank you again!
When you're watching it 1.75x because you want them to get the hell to the thing you tuned in for, and the constant laughing is making you think you're listening to the Car Talk guys reincarnated (well, OK, it may be only one of them has passed).
Came back into the comments because we got to the part about how the kids' Christmas list changed drastically after cable and that's a funny, fascinating detail
Yes! It has been so wonderful! Brilliantly read and so compelling! What a gift! Thanks so much to Michelle! I wonder, would you read the whole book? It would be so appreciated!
Dear GAL's Guide: I really enjoyed listening months ago to this reading of Kristen. I knew at the time, but now can't recall: please, which translation is read here? thanks!
Hello! I'm so glad you enjoyed this reading of Kristin Lavransdatter. This translation was the Tiina Nunnally translation released in 2005, which is considered to be the superior of the two existing English translations.
Leah here. Yes and No. The band did use "The Only Band That Matters" as an official promotional slogan. It's said that their record label, CBS Records, creative services department came up with the slogan. Gary Lucas claims to have coined the tagline. it is quite possible that the band members themselves never claimed that... even if it was written on the bill.
Thank you! We have recorded all the chapters from Book 1 The Bridal Wreath. Here is the RU-vid playlist. ru-vid.com/group/PLvrDDHzJXx3Vn-Kg2qHwjUwjB4O4OFXR-

Thank you! We are lucky to have two lovely ladies who alternate reading books for us. Next up is Amber with Little Women. Michelle will return but she's still deciding on which books to read.
I just want to say thank you I'm doing Josephine Baker for a school project and though I had a basic-ish knowledge of her from a previous project, I really need a refresher. And I can definitely say this did it for me. Not only that but I absolutely fell in love with her even more than I already was. God, I love her and thank you so much for this video.
Great podcast thanks for keeping josephine baker legacy alive ..I had the immense privilege and the honor to have worked with Miss Baker in 1975 @ Bobino. I was the youngest dancer in the cast . The show was called “ Josephine “ It was based on her life story celebrating her 50 years in show business from her humble beginning in St Louis to her triumphant comeback to Bobino. She used to call me “ her little page “ (Son petit page )cause of my age ! I just turned 18 th on April 1st 1975. luckily for me I have tons of memorable pics from the show as well as unforgettable stories of this short but amazing run. ! She was extremely engaged with all of the dancers .Wanting to know everyone ‘s names .Josephine really truly care about people She was a true legend immensely talented beautiful ,elegant ,generous , humble & kind . She would bring oranges for the entire company saying “ My children you need lots Vit C for strength and energy “ She was so right cause the rehearsals were long and grueling ,,,. Bobino ‘s stage was too small to accommodate a cast of 8 boys 12 girls 3 comedians 1 little girl who played young josephine and 1 gorgeous dancer who perform the famous banana dance ! so they had to transformed the stage by expanding it including putting additional seats in the theater and building brand new dressing rooms to accommodate such a big cast all while we were practicing in the lobby of The theater. ! It was bit chaotic to say the list & quite cold being mid -February But no one seemed to care it was so exciting to be part of this show ! Even though None of the big Paris music ‘halls like Le Casino de Paris ,Le Moulin Rouge or les Folies Bergere wanted to take the risk producing Miss baker mostly for insurance purposes There were already rumors circulating of her failing health but a small theater on Paris left bank called Bobino took a chance ...Josephine liked to rehearsed late at night after we were done .She even enjoyed having her favorite dish Spaghetti bolognese around 1 am at a restaurant right across the theater. I will never forget the 1 st time I saw her performing once the stage was finally ready. That night She was in the audience watching us dancing with huge smile on her face applauding many times throughout being so proud of the cast. After all she was watching part of her whole life story in front of her eyes. ... In fact during the promotion of the show a French journalist asked her. “ How does it feel to see your life story being played in front you and starring in your own life musical ? She replied “ it’s wonderful At least i will see what they think of me when I am still alive !!!! I When we were done the director Andre levasseur said “ josephine c ‘ est a vous “ she jumped on stage and belt a song from the Brazilian number called” Que c‘est bon de vivre” She seemed to be completely possessed by the rhythm of the Afro Cuban sound very reminiscing of “Princess Tam-Tam “ all those years earlier Her moves were so unbelievable. Her body was in perfect shape specially in her Chanel suit !!!! There is No way you would have guessed that this beautiful lady was in her late 60 ‘s. A goddess still !!!! What thrill for me. A true MASTER CLASS ,,,,,,We rehearsed the show for about 1 month and half . We actually did more than 4 performances. We started with one week of previews on March 25 th special Press night on march 31 st to glorious reviews ! We had another full week of performances with a big opening gala on April 8 th with stars like Grace Kelly’s Sophia Loren & Alain Delon. We had another performance on the 9 th but then She felt into a coma on the 10 th and past in the early hours on the 12 th. I was invited to her funeral at l ‘eglise de la Madeleine The service was extremely beautiful and so very emotional .but we all believed she died of joy 🥰Josephine paved the way for Diana Ross Madonna Beyoncé and many other artists. A true legend. Unparalleled. ❤️❤️❤️.check my video with pics from Bobino 1975. Just Type “ josephine Baker and me Cittaroma p “. Take care and be well ladies.
Thx from Norway. I live in Skaun, Husaby where Kristin Lavransdatter 'lived'. I did read this book the first time when I was 15 years old. I love it then and I love it now 30 years later 🙂
I too first read this book about 30 years ago. I was captivated by the book, which is why it topped my list of books to read for Gal’s Guide. Please forgive my poor pronunciation of all the Norse names! ❤️ I would love to see all these places described in the book- they sound so beautiful.
I'm so embarrassed that I've been teaching high school history (mostly U.S. and Euro) for twenty years and I know so little about Queen Nzinga. I was tossed a few AP World classes this year and while flipping through the curriculum, there she was. Amazing story. Wonder Woman in the flesh.
Thanks for these recordings! I'm reading "Frankenstein" in my CE English class. It's helpful to listen to these recordings as I follow along. It helps me stay focused and comprehend more.
