Man if you watched the fight (dont think it is here on youtube) but Ryan was blue as can be after the ref called it, he might not have been out but he was on his way going out for sure but the reason the ref called the fight is bc the submission was pretty tight looking, Ryans neck was cranked a little and the ref asks Ryan to show him a sign that he is fine and not at risk of serious injury etc and Ryan doesnt react or give a sign of a thumbs up like many fighters will do to show the ref that they are ok, still breathing and all is good continue the fight, but Ryan doesnt do this so if you cant react and say im ok or show that you are ok you are not ok and so the ref said its over. Ryan shouldnt be crying after the fact, he should have responded to the ref by giving a TU or saying verbally its not all that tight ref im good to go!!!! but he didnt do anything but sit there and was gonna get slept in a few more seconds. Thats why when in competitions I never let a choke go so fast, I hold it till the ref pulls my hands apart. Although I will release some of the pressure slightly but not let go of the submission or choke so in reality im not hurting the person or risking injuring them etc I just want to let the ref do his job and "pull" the submission off the guy. I do this bc Ive seen it where a guy fake taps (on the side where the ref isnt in position to see it) so that the guy holding the submission will completely let loose of the choke thinking its over and the guy just tapped but in reality he was just tricking you into thinking it so you let go and now you have lost the submission and the position and the ref says keep going.
There is no way to defend a knife attack without weapons. If knives didn't give an advantage over no knives, they would never have been invented or used in the first place. You want to test it? Get a plastic knife and cover the edges with lipstick or some other red material, and do a no holds bar fight with a trained fighter, mma style. You will cut and stab the fuck out of him/her a million times with hardly any effort, and have the red streaks of lipstick/paint to prove it. If someone has a knife on you, run the fuck away. You can NOT beat a knife with your bear hands, no matter how big you are, or how trained you are, or anything else.

I am somewhat disappointed in this because it was far too gentle to a knife attack. I've seen MMA instructors who teach several options to get control of the arm that is attacking with the knife, and the arm is broken during the moves. If you leave the knife attacker in good shape and just run, he is probably going to come after you and then you will have to deal with the problem again. The objective should be to disable the attacker from being able to do anything.
I think it's great he's showing one method, but I really think he should've covered more than just a knife attack at that particular angle. Like Mr. Lozito, knifer could go for the head too. Why not show that as well? The same technique wouldn't apply for that scenario as it's riskier and more prone to injury.

a few of these were very close to the spine and kidney region, but only like one or two. if deandrew wasn't so tired, he likely could have escaped the position which would have been the best defense against those knees in side control.

Top that off with the fact that Rollie didn't expect a fist bump based on his opponent's earlier actions and you have the result you see in the video. Rollie felt, and thanks to all of your uninformed and ignorant comments, still feels bad about what happened and even apologized at the end of the round before his opponent had the audacity to actually leave the ring. Obviously his opponent suffered from nothing more than some hurt pride and cowardice otherwise he wouldn't have been able to walk out of the ring. He forfeit any ability on his part to win the fight by walking out.
