Remember when they released Surrender as their first single in Australia. Thought wtf is this went straight to the record shop and bought the single to blast at full volume on my parents' pioneer stereo when they weren't home. Great days indeed for us rockers.
Thank you. That was incredibly cathartic for me. We couldn’t have a funeral because the ground at the 4-generation family plot was frozen tundra when he died and a timely memorial service was going to be extraordinarily difficult for multiple reasons. So that was the closest I’ve had to a memorial in the almost 6 months to the day that he passed. Ian gave me a gift I’ll never ever forget.
I think that was absolutely beautiful. And thanks for making me cry with makeup on. (kidding) How gracious Ian was. All of them really. Gives hope for humanity in this cruel world we live in. My condolences to the man and his family. God Bless. Peace. ♥
Thank you for your comment. I’m still a little overwhelmed tat Ian brought me up onstage to do that. Instead of scattering my father’s ashes in one place, I’ve been taking a vial of his remains with me whenever I go somewhere eventful/memorable, etc. I will never forget last Friday night, Ian’s incredibly generous and kind gesture, and the love and support of the crowd at Vina Robles that night. Thank you again for taking the time to comment. All the best, Mike.
Dad has actually not yet been interred in the family plot. My brother and I split the ashes in half. One was given to me and the other half is still in my brother’s possession. The 4-generation family plot is in a very remote part of North Dakota near a farm that has been in the family since the late 1800s. My dad has no post-mortem requests as far as funerals/memorials/casket or cremation. He just wanted to be buried with his parents grandparents and great-grandparents in ND. I live in CA, my brother lives in OH, and he has two kids still in school so the logistics of making that journey have been difficult. The fact that it hasn’t yet been done weigh heavily on me, and much of the problem is out of my hands. So that made last week so huge for me. If there is a heaven, and dad is looking down, he had a huge laugh at that “memorial”. Life is good sometimes.
That was frickin' crazy! I didn't cry..😢😢. Lead singer hasn't looked this good in years, he put on a good show. I'll have to watch you video a couple times to get this guy's name.
Hi, I’m the guy in the kilt w dad’s ashes. My name is Mike Hauge. I have a small RU-vid account under Michaelscott12 if you care to check it out. Thanks for commenting and I hope you had as much of an incredible night at the Cult show as I did. All apologies for the nudity. It was a spontaneous reaction to Ian calling attention the kilt. If you wear one, you just gotta go “regimental”, as they say. Peace and love.
Steve me laddy! Wish like hell you were there. You will always be my favorite bass player, partner in rhythm section, encourager of my questionable behavior in public, and Cult show companion! Nobody lives and cares for his fans more than Ian Astbury. Love you, brother
Cheap Trick is still one of my favorite bands. I started listening to them when I was 14 yrs old. My friend turned us on to them because Cheap Trick opened for KISS back in 76 in LA.
When Live at Budokan came out Cheap Trick became ultra famous all over the Planet. Saw them live in Europe back in early eighties with some other bassist! They did a remarkable cover of Ac/dc highway to hell. Rick Nielsen stole that show! Legends and still Rocking wow!🤘👏
