I noticed there are standard and long ones. Which one do you recommend? What is the lowest note on the chanter? It would be good to get one that matches the bag pipe we end up getting.
Thank you for the video.. I'm looking into learning the bagpipe..but i can't find out what would be a good practice chanter for beginners.. Can you help me on this?
Hi Phillip,. I notice that you have not yet had a response . I have only been playing the practice chanter now for three months. I got mine with a tutor book from the National Piping Centre in Glasgow Scotland. Please do not get one via eBay or Amazon. From the reviews I have read they either don't turn up in the post or simply do not function. Hope this helps.
Thanks ! I'm beginning alone, and the most difficult is to make a good sound ! It's a pity, because I know now all the notes without looking at my fingers. 😠😱
i've only had 5 lessons so far, but am having trouble with my RH index/thumb sliding down the stick progressively after multiple strokes - even while pinching it with a death-like grip lol. Even tried wrapping the sticks with micropore tape but it doesn't solve the issue. Left hand similar but nearly so much. Don't know quite what to do about it; my teacher says apparently you don't need to hold the stick particularly hard
There’s almost a sweet spot in terms of how hard/loose to hold. I would always recommend being on the looser side. I’ve seen slipping happen before but what I would recommend to use the rest of the fingers(middle, ring and pinky) to support the stick as this should stop it moving up and down too much. This takes a bit of getting used to and it’s the same feeling as learning to bounce a ball - the more you do it the more you’re likely to have total control over it. Hope this helps.
