I came into this after playing PD on original hardware for every day for basically a year. I played this on the console screen with the N64 controller. Input delay wasn't noticable, performance was better than it is on N64, and the issues I ran into were all relatively minor and none were game breaking. Beat every mission on perfect dark difficulty and got all the shooting range medals minus 3 (which I can never get, even on N64) Honestly I'm more than happy it's on NSO and it works more than well enough for me to pick up and play when I want
it look good 😅 i play the current version on n64 with everdrive x7 cartridge, i will miss the archives IF version but this new one looks good as it’s the version used from the original goldeneye solo mission😅 . i wonder if the multiplayer archives version from the original goldeneye is still in? or did it get replaced with cliff top?
All 11 original GoldenEye multiplayer maps (including Archives Frontzone) will never be replaced or removed in GoldenEye X! Cliff Base and Archives Backzone are just bonus multiplayer levels
Hey TH I've been waiting YEEEEEARSS for this patch to come out. Since 2016/17 soon after the last one did. I just want to know if Wreck is using this time to work on this patch right now or is he taking another break to work on another GE mod?
Yes Wreck has been working on Patch 6a again, at least since June. We figured out some crashing issues last week even. There may be some more additional content coming since the release of the last trailer 👀 Stay tuned!
@@nrswy18 Hanging in there lol I haven't played a GE/GEX/PD game since 2019. I've been waiting with baited breath for this GE-X patch to come out so that I could get back into the grove of things and come back and play again with you guys. Though I don't know if my connection will be any good since I'm using wi-fi only these days. So yeah once this comes out that should bring the fire back in me to play online once again
It is an awesome feature but it very hard to replicate this unique effect with software emulation. On N64 console it is 100% not as intense as it is here
This game on the Switch is fine. I've been playing it and it's just like the original. I actually like playing it with the pro controller instead of the N64 controller. Not sure why everyone has to hate on everything and nitpick all the time.
I nitpick because I want players to experience this game that I've loved for over 20 years in the best way possible. And to be transparent with the issues before people potentially purchase NSO subscription. Objectively speaking, it is probably the worst official version of the game. I am glad that you enjoyed it though and glad that new/old players will experience it. The game will always be great, but this emulation is not
Some people nitpick because they like good framerate and no input lag. Also imagine paying repeatedly for temporary access to a worse version. It's like buying food that's gross and bad for you.
N64 games had the option to use higher resolution textures. Definitely enable that! I'd only toggle it off when playing on an actual N64 to keep a playable framerate, otherwise it's hard to aim.
Switch to the 1.2 control scheme and remap the Switch pad to swap the sticks. That seems to be the best way to play on the Switch. Otherwise, yeah. Between this, GoldenEye and Turok... woof, these games have a tough time translating to current pads.
True, but it's so counter intuitive. I've played fps games one way my entire life, it's kind of hard to just switch the sticks in your brain. If you can get used to it, it's the best way to play, but the trick is getting used to it.
@@generalsci3831 does it though? I thought it makes the right stick move forward, backward, and strafing and the left stick is just looking...idk I only tried it for a few seconds and couldn't get used to it so Im not really sure. All I know is I'm glad the days of default inverted y axis is over.
@@guyledouche7939 It sounds like you both are talking about three different things here. Maybe I can help: - If you're trying to disable the inverted axis, that is an in-game option called "Reverse Pitch." - If you are trying to swap the functionality of your two analog sticks, you swap them in the console's system settings. - The behavior you mention (left stick looks around & right stick steps forward, back, left, right) is how things work for the control scheme 1.2 of Perfect Dark. This is the closest to a modern control scheme but still will require you to swap the sticks, as mentioned, to use the left stick for your movement and the right stick for looking/aiming.
What the heck, there isn't even a switch controller in the menu ? I shall also either stick to the rom, played on anything from an original 64 with everdrive to my pc or phone or the XBLA remake...
They want to kill emulation so we have to constantly pay a service fee to play these old games... and they can't even be bothered to make sure they work right. I think it's time for Nintendo to pack it in and go away.
Perfect Dark XBLA: Tones down the dizzy effect (e.g. stopping it from carrying across lives in the Combat Simulator) Perfect Dark Switch: Ramps up the dizziness to maximum.
The most infuriating thing about Nintendo is how phony they are. The whole Vimm's Lair lawsuit proves they are only cruel and litigious business robots. They will take down roms available for free and then garbage emulation like this is their lazy internal solution.
the funny part is that i don´t even get why people even played the original game, i have not really played that game much but from what i remember, it ran extremely bad, and i remember trying co-op. and it was basically single digit stutter mess. They preesed the n64 waaay to far.
It sounds like you had enabled what's known as "Hi-Res" mode. On the N64 this uses larger textures which increase the visual fidelity, and also tends to make the game unplayable (not just Perfect Dark but also Turok 2, 007 World is Not Enough, and so on). The original game did run somewhat poorly, especially in co-op and counter-op, but it was playable. At the time it's what we knew, and people just dealt with it. Goldeneye 007 was an absolute slideshow in 4-player split screen, and it doesn't even have a hi-res mode!
@@ProjectionProjects2.7182 emulation isn't piracy! Downloading ROMS of games you don't own is! Has nothing to do with Nintendo, look up US and pretty much every other countries software laws. They pretty much go like this: You can make a backup (only one) of any and all software you buy, then means anything that requires code to run. You may not distribute this backup, you may not play the backup and the real copy at the same time. It's perfectly legal to rip your own games and use emulators with these ROM images you have ripped from your own carts/CD/dvd/BluRay. However downloading any software you don't have a license to is not legal at all, it's copyright infringement and or intellectual property theft.
@@eatanotherzio6811 so if you don't want to play it, why pirate it? If I made a game, I would intentionally put in checks to see if it were pirated, and if it was it would damage the hardware. It's the only way you pirates will learn.
I kinda don't get the approach of Nintendo releasing games on a broken or almost untested state just to wait for people to complain and then fix them Kinda the same happened with Ocarina, and heck they didn't even fixed Ocarina back on the Wii U, which makes me believe if people didn't complained about NSO they just wouldn't had cared
The Extraction X music glitch sometimes happens when skipping the Intro Cutscene, the command to play it simply got skipped so after a little bit the regular Music Track starts playing. Never gotten around to truly testing it but I think it's related to how soon you skip the Intro Cutscene? Regardless I can confirm that isn't a problem with the NSO version, as I've run into this multiple times on 1964. Not sure if it's possible on Console, if I'm right about it being based on how fast you skip the Cutscene it might be an issue with having a higher framerate. As for Deep Sea X not playing, the way the video is edited I don't know if you skipped the Cutscene or let it play out that time but if you did skip then that might've been the issue. The blur effect was insane though, the effect is extreme but it seems to function correctly which might be why it was approved. Hopefully that gets patched later as NSO games do occasionally get patches based on feedback. Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a great example as it had multiple visual glitches fixed a couple of months after it was added...however that was a first party game and there likely won't be enough people complaining about Perfect Dark to get patched. Most people will likely assume the blur was always that extreme and just complain about it in general rather than it being an emulation issue. Anyways, it's a shame that this is the worst way to play the game but it was kind of expected since fans have been messing with this game for decades.
I was highly skeptical when they announced perfect dark for switch online since goldeneye was handled poorly, and I was right to do so. Im honestly not suprsied perfect dark also had issues, the frame dips are just laughable, and the controls with an actual n64 controller are unironically better. I honestly see no point of playing this when now we have the pc port
This is close to mine, except I dislike Complex (I know it's popular though) and always found the layout too confusing, and move that to probably C tier. I would move Facility and Basement to S. 2 v 2 facility with defend/storm the bathroom golden gun was an old favorite, and basement LTK pistols is #1.
Great point. I guess you have to hope your opponent is honorable enough to not trap you up there haha. PD's Felicity is better because of the quick escape hatch from the vents
