Hi! Welcome to Carrie on Accessibility-CoA for short!
I created this channel to empower those who are blind or visually impaired like me.
I’ve been legally blind all my life due to Aniridia, nystagmus, cataracts, and glaucoma. Living with sight loss, I experience firsthand how so much of our world is inaccessible. But with technology, innovation, awareness, and designing with accessibility in mind, we can live full and independent lives.
Check out my content including Quick Accessibility Tips (QAT), Accessibility & Assistive Technology News (A&AT News), unboxings, reviews, interviews, livestreams, and so much more. This channel is me sharing what I’m passionate about-spreading technology and advocating to make our world more accessible.
Join me in my EPIC mission-to Explore, Promote, Improve, & Collaborate to make the world more accessible. Support this channel by becoming a CoA Patron or RU-vid Member or simply Like, Subscribe, and Share.
Together we can make a difference!

The belt is one of those hairbrained crazy things I can't imagine working that might just maybe end up being a hit. I remember when I scoffed at the new fangled voiceover on iPhone, how could touch screens possibly be easier for blind people? I doubt this is that but who knows?

The haptic belt would probably be really useful for people who are also deaf. If you can't hear everything it tells you, you want to have some kind of immediate feedback to try to stay safer.

Interesting devices. I wouldn’t wear the belt, thats for sure. However I wonder if this can be used separately and not just have the two piece setup always, it would be neat to have both devices and use which one or both for those specific situations Yu would find handy. I appreciate you Carrie ❤

When I was blind for a month, I really started to use VoiceOver. I had it in my 4x4 (on the backside - 8dot computer braille layout) mechanical keyboard case. But the first time I discovered triple-tap, it was an accident. I was in the mall; and unable to read. About a half-hour panic when I figured it out. VoiceOver is handy even if you can see, and just want to use it without looking at the screen for a bit. ie: Cant find glasses.

How were you able to turn up talkback that easily? When I do it, it brings up a menu turn up the media volume, but I can quickly find the accessibility volume slider. Mean while, you just pressed the volume up button. How did you do that?

I agree with you here, Samsung and Google have to work together on talkback and they must stop this unnecessary fragmentation. It is too much.

This is an interesting app, I kinda see this sorts of thing being used for more mentally challenged people or those with multiple disabilities almost since it makes it more interactive, and it would help them recognize whether someone’s speaking to them, or its one of their devices giving them a notice for whats ahead. It’s not something I would use as a deafblind individual, but who knows, maybe someone will like this, and find it useful. Thx for all you do Carrie! ❤

Another great episode. Thanks. I concur with your observations and assessment. Thanks for continuing to be an advocate for the partially sighted that really need dark mode. I keep poking BeMyEyes about that and they just keep saying "Thanks for the feedback" and then do nothing about it.

I have been comparing be my AI and ira explorer AI. The only thing right now that I like better with be my AI is that it always recognizes stuff that ira explorer doesn't recognize. Other than that ira explorer is great.

@ToughBeifong 4 дня назад
@@carrieonaccessibility there have been several times where I explore doesn't recognize a character on my shirt but be my AI does recognize the character and tells me the name of the character. There was also a shirt where they each gave two different descriptions. Ira explorer identified stains on one of my shirts and be my AI did not do the same. I asked someone about it and I was told that it was a part of the shirt design that ira explorer thought were stains.

I agree with you. I am also conflicted . I had my 1st cataract surgery in 1979 when I was 7. It didn't help. Science wasn't advanced enough to correct the issue and I totally lost the vision in one eye. Since then I have had cataract surgery in my remaining sighted eye. It was a temporary fix and didn't cure anything for me. I am now legally blind and about to have yet another surgery to hopefully maintain what vision I have left. Wish me luck!

for voices: isn't what you really want a pronounciation that is totally unambiguous about spelling? ie: completely remove the gap between audio and keyboard input.

@@carrieonaccessibility when i was writing braille code, i had this weird dream: where i got everything to line up. braille, sighted fonts, and a voice.... all producing the exact same characters at full-speed, in a computer terminal. the pronounciations were strange, but i could write code at full speed. if you think about it, keyboard, tts, and braille... if it wasn't for all the odd spellings that dont match how things sound; it would make no difference how you did your input and output. english is kind of a giant mess; and i expect the language to evolve to make input/output with computers easier. The Palm Pilot was a handheld tablet that used a pen as input. They changed the alphabet to be super-easy for computers to decode, rather than trying to recognize handwriting.

a person that programs by voice. it requires re-making English: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f7neTXb6HjQ.html I did lose use of both hands for a few months years ago, because i was up past my elbows in casts; and my company suggested Dragon Dictate.
