I have a brain I want to seal , it’s lots of ridges , is painting on the UV resin on best? Or just putting it on and rubbing it on with a rubber glove ?
I don't have a good fee or size. How big of a rock will fit in the UV lamp that you recommend? I'm typically doing fat rocks(2" high). Will they fit under? Also mine can be around 2" in diameter. Will they fit?
i keep having dimples on my Santorini rocks when sealing. I did 2 coats on a rock today and still get dimples. How to avoid those? I tried uv resin cold and warmed it just keeps doing it.
Which wattage is best as the link shows two different ones? A friend told me that the wattage had to be correct (she sent two back because one was too low and the other two high).
Hello! Apologies for the delay. I missed your post. I use the 168W, but my friend uses the 180w. I think it really depends on what resin you use. Some just don't cure as fast as others. Or remain sticky regardless. I have only used Mr Resin uv resin (the original) successfully. I hope that helps!

I just started using jdiction uv resin and after curing it for 4 minutes it still felt tacky. So I left it alone overnight then sat in the sun for 20 minutes. It's been 5 days now and it still leaves fingerprints in the resin and has a slight tacky feeling. Any tips you could give me please?
@@natalieeofnateartcreations 84 w I cured for 4 minutes as I was told then left in the sun just once for 20 minutes. I contacted Jdiction resin today they said maybe since it's the new formula one I may gotten a bad batch. Someone else said I might have put it on too thick It was my first time using resin
@@fireblazinstar oh wow! I haven't ever had an issue with "too thick". Your wattage seems adequate. I have had one other person tell me they had curing issues with this brand in the last 2 weeks. If they suggest a bad batch, I would return it and ask for a replacement! In the meantime, if you can leave it in the sun for several hours, try that. If still tacky nothing is wrong with going back over it with more resin. (A known good resin). I honestly only use Mr Resin UV resin, so I have no recommendations outside of that brand. I hope you can try a new batch of Jdiction!! It really should not be hard to do UV resin. If you're experiencing issues like this that even the sun cannot cure, I would say it's the resin's fault.

Love your rock art! Have you tried ArtResin? If so, how do you like this one compared to that one? I have something pretty big that I need to epoxy and will need to apply it with a brush like you did to do the sides and such.
Hi! Thank you! Yes, actually I started out my epoxy over rocks journey with Art Resin, but quickly realized it yellows very fast, especially if exposed to any sunlight. I was very disappointed to find out that is a common problem with Art Resin and most 2 part epoxy resins. Hopefully your project is staying indoors?
@@natalieeofnateartcreations well it will be both indoors and outdoors. I've been concerned about yellowing, but on their website they talk about adding a lot of UV protection additives so that it will stay clear for many years. Do you think you bought it before they were making it UV protected, or is the protection just not as good as they let on?
@@stephenwhite5444 my change to UV resin occured in June/July 2021. In all the research and customer comments/complaints i found on art blogs I'm not certain that they are completely transparent with the yellowing. They continued to state it doesn't yellow even when there was evidence to the contrary of items stored inside away from sun, apparently. (Canvas, etc). I don't know if they recently reformulated. Do you know when they say they reformulated?
@@natalieeofnateartcreations I'm not positive but I'd imagine prior to 2021. It seems odd that it would yellow inside....makes me wonder if it was really their paint. For instance oil paints that people make from linseed oil will darken or yellow when in the dark. I'm pretty sure even epoxy with no UV protection only yellows from sun light exposure. Well I'm glad you told me! I might need to come up with some other kind of clear top coat besides epoxy. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe a clear water based spar urethane???....only issue with that is it's fairly thin so might just run down the sides and would take a ton of coats even to get it 1/16th thick.

What kind of light source do you have over your work area? Do you notice any accidental curing of resin from the room/work lighting? Have cured items inside resin and not sure if it was light coming through windows or my household lighting but seemed like I would get blobs of thicker resin or partly curing resin while I was still working on it. I know LED's don't emit UV light but most other bulbs do emit some.
Hi! WOW! Very good question!! I do not have issues with Mr Resin UV resin "blobbing up"😎 indoors, but I could see how that might occur if the conditions are not properly set in the work area! My work area is free of any natural sunlight, which would be the hugest concern as ANY UV from windows or skylights would be bad. My main lamp is LED and it could, at higher settings, slowly set the resin, but it isn't enough UV emitted to cause premature curing as I am applying. I keep my LED settings lower while applying as well. I use the new model Neatfi XL desk lamp for my workbench. 2,500 lumens. It's pretty powerful LED at the highest settings. I would tell you that any UV from sunlight will cause the UV resin to prematurely start gelling up, or blobbing up. So, applying indoors near a window is going to cause premature curing issues unless you have a good curtain to block UV. If the room has suspected UV emitting lighting, then I would replace the bulbs or turn off that suspected light while applying. Making your area UV free except the lamp would be important. The UV resin application will always be inconsistent if prematurely exposed to UV before you're ready! I also apply away from the UV curing lamp. I keep my lamp on a little shelf under my bench so i can reach under pop it over my rock, then put it back under when I am done 😎. I hope that answers your question! 💗🥰

Here is the newest model. Very strong and fast! The bottom plate does pop off so you can use it on an rock easily. this is a really solid method of coating stuff with uv resin, thank you! so is the trick to not having the resin drip all down a rounded surface just putting on a thin coat? i want to try applying resin to 3d models but they often dont have flat tops, so i want to make sure it sticks to the surface and doesnt start pooling wherever i apply it
Yes, I would use a small brush and do thin coats. The cool thing about uv resin is you can layer it without sanding the cured resin surface. When I have added resin to any of my 3d printed surfaces I have used a stylus or similar tool to apply.

This UV resin (Mr Resin) on metallic watercolors is amazing! No other prep necessary.🥰 I have used it on Inktense as well as watercolor pencil with no other prep. I have not used traditional watercolor though. Just metallic watercolor. I don't paint with regular watercolor - I will try it to test that!
One other thing I should mention. Traditional watercolor paint and pencils are not lightfast. If I use them on a rock, that rock is intended to be displayed inside. 😎 Metallic watercolor due to the nature of the mica IS lightfast. You can use them on rocks intended to be shared and released into the outdoors 💗
@@natalieeofnateartcreations thank you so much for your answer. I also use metallic watercolors. So i have to look out for this exact resin. I live in Switzerland sometimes it is hard here to find foreign products bc a lot of countries don't ship their products to Switzerland 😁 we are like an isle in Europe. But I will find something that'll work. I'm happy to hear that there is no more steps before the resin. Makes things a lot easier. Today i made a rock just with black paint as a base and then with abalone (shell) pieces. It's so sparkly and bright but with resin I'm pretty sure it will improve that look. Yes, they are! And if you resin them 100% they will last outside in the sun and wet. I can only speak to Mr. Resin UV resin. I have used other 2 part resins that do not.
From Mr. Resin UV resin the odor is very mild to non existent. I have a very sensitive nose and I have no issues doing this inside my house without having to ventilate. It's way less odor than 2 part Art Resin, which I think stinks. Please note, other UV resins DO smell. I can only vouch for Mr Resin being the best one I have used 😊💗
