A group of aliens (who happen to be homosexual and appear to be of African descent) approach earth, horrified to find it populated with not only males but also females. So they devise a plan to land on earth and liberate the men from their female overlords. Numerous sexual and racial jokes ensue. It is rather difficult to explain this film. The plot really sums it up, but the question is exactly whether or not the film is even good. On one hand, it's mostly notorious because of the name and not so much for the content of the film. So it can be dismissed as just a racist and homophobic movie. But is it racist or homophobic if it glorifies homosexuality and stars black men? And what of some of the more clever, subtle humor and homages? The name itself is a take on "Grave Diggers From Outer Space", the original title of "Plan 9 From Outer Space"... so there's definitely some knowledgeable film historians behind this one. And what to make of it being foreign (Danish)? Does the intent and humor translate well? I can't say for sure. Which makes this one even more of an enigma. After three viewings (the film is less than thirty minutes) I am still unclear on the way to take this one, and will likely be unclear for some time. It's funny, if only in an irreverent way. It's quirky. And it's certainly unique. If you can get your hands on a copy, do so. I don't know how to explain why, but I think this is a must-see film for almost everyone.
I love generally the works of Mr.Alÿs. BUT art should never, i said NEVER, use animals as guinea's pigs. This vídeo is just a prove the humans are cruels, nothing more. Did Mr Alÿs lost his sensibility? That’s no art .That’s stupidity.
Inspired by your work,it’s a performance against the construction of a commercial center LIDL adiacente an old castle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-il9IDPhv-tI.htmlsi=hweTKzyrTGruJOUy
Hello Francis alys I wanted to let you know that I love your work, especially your sometimes making something leads to nothing project. Also is it true you live in Mexico City? Thank your Mr Alys
This work, among many others of Alÿs, impacted me so directly and so profoundly, that the trajectory of my life was also impacted. In sum, my gratitude to this man and his work exceeds my capacity to express
İ always dreamed it and i assume that everyone thinks of such act when they see a crocked ugly line on the street so , it's so satisfying to see someone saying fuck it lets start doing it instead of imagining it!
I feel it could be interpreted as a reminder of our individual ability to interact with the world at a micro level... our behaviors are regulated by the societal structures around us; repainting lines on the street is a task the government usually takes care of but clearly that is never gonna happen here... so in my eyes the artist's painting of this one line is an unexpected, almost rebellious, act of care towards this road and the people who live near it... I think any act of care, even one that is arguably "meaningless" like this, is valuable. I think there is also value inherent in disrupting the "normalcy" of life with harmless acts like the artist's in this video... I enjoy this work partially because it seems so "meaningless." Some of the people watching him doing it are clearly a bit confused and this confusion is a funny little break for them from their daily routines... those are some of my thoughts, anyways; to each their own
I remember fondly this exhibition in Bogota in 2009. The way that external individuals were involved in the projects was very telling on how sometimes we are willing to follow a rule that we don't fully integrate just for the sheer desire of being part of something. I think there is a beauty and a madness to it. For me, those actions were enjoyable in a revelatory way. Great work.
Def .
I have seen things in the art museums that look like this. At least this provides some social value. i take this piece to be a criticism of such minimalist bullsh*t
No seas mamón wey.
