I've just finished reading this book, it's only my second Ishiguro book after Klara and the Sun. I enjoyed both tremendously and your review as well

Thank you for your comment. I'm a massive fan of Ishiguro's books. Make sure to check out The Buried Giant. I've also done a review of that one. One of my favourite books 😊

Haven’t thought about this book in awhile but honestly I love it even now. Read it in middle school and loved it even back then

I read the book recently, and just finished the 1954 animated movie. Believe it or not, I didn't see Soviet Union/Comunism/Stalin in this. I saw it more as Germany in the 1930's and 1940's, especially the way the pigs were animated in the movie (they did a lot of questionable "arm" salutes, and in one scene, Napoleon was even goose-stepping). Not to mention Napoleon stating that he was going to make decisions for all the animals for them.

You mentioned a deep dive into Farenheit 451. I recommend 'End of Story' by Louise Swanson (pen name for Louise Beech) which is a variation of the book banning dystopia. I reviewed it last December.

A book I read in school I liked it then. But now as an adult I can see and understand much in it. I feel it's one of the truly great books.

I just recently read it and quickly followed it with "Dark Matter" and "Upgrade". Of the three, "Recursion" is my favorite, as perfect a novel and piece of science fiction as is possible to write it seems to me. If Mr Crouch can surpass it in the future, my mind will be blown again.

I liked Recursion the most out of the three. Upgrade was my least favorite with Dark Matter coming in second. I've made a book review of each one. You may also enjoy those 😊

Donna’s affair seems to trigger the events in Cujo, with Tad’s death as a harsh consequence. King might be exploring how fate or God balances the scales, punishing Donna while also freeing Charity Camber from her abusive husband. It’s as if fate used this tragedy to change lives in different ways.

Good video. By the way, the correct pronunciation is MARQuez. In Spanish, if there's a 'tilde' above a letter, you put emphasis on that. Márquez.

Orwell read We and got inspired to create 1984. Many themes and plot lines in 1984 simply repeat those in We. A bit upsetting that such a seminal work as We is so little known in the West. By the way, contrary to what one may think right away, We critiques not the Soviet comminism, but Fordism. That is, Zamyatin contemplated the book after learning of the conveyor belt and narrow specialization of workers that Ford innovated at his automobile production facilities. By the time We was finished, the Soviet communism was turning the way that a direct connection could be laid between the world of We and the Soviet communism.

Hi dear! I hope you are well. I have watched your channel and videos (DanWhiteBooks). Got monetization on your RU-vid channel but I found your source of income very low (monthly $0.76-$12). Your video is excellent but video optimization is very poor and no SEO score. And there are many problems. Your RU-vid channel immediately needs to be SEO-friendly. I can solve all these problems. I am a Digital Marketer and SEO Specialist. You can discuss it with me if you want. Thank you

I am actually opposed to this book. The author could have chosen a kid from the nearby city or so. Bruno would have been so indoctrinated that it makes the whole story fall apart

I read this book several years ago and though I didn't know beans about Columbian history, I loved it. That said, I agree very much with this review. It's unlike any other book I've ever read, and I had to make a copy of the family tree to make little notes regarding who was who. That helped tremenously and I really enjoyed the story. Though I think I have run across copycat magical realism in perhaps other popular culture, this was my first real exposure to it in such an original form, and I have to say I was completely charmed by it. For me, the realism part of the term is how Marquez slips it in here and there and makes it all so natural and blended into reality. When I was done I read it echoed with historical events, but I did not pursue those at the time. What brings me back to this book is a radio documentary I heard recently about Minor C. Keith and the United Fuit Company. I cannot remember everything in the story and I think I want to enjoy reading it again.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I just didn't like this book. Historical inaccuracies aside....I just didn't feel much of a connection, not even at the end. Sad? Yes. But also a little shallow IMO. Maybe the movie is more powerful? Guess I'll find out

Very well written and spoken review! Really enjoyed the book. It felt different from Dark Matter and Recursion (the second being my favorite sci-fi novel of the past decade) in the sense that Upgrade felt less plot-driven and more of an internal monologue of the main character. It felt like there were far less dialogue scenes than in the other novels. Not necessarily lacking in characterization, but just more of an internal journey. When you stop and think back, the story beats & plot framework of the book are actually pretty fast and simple. Could easily fit in a two hour film, I think.

Magical realism it's just the product of a Latinoamerican worldview. It's exaggerated but representative. No floating priests but for example when people in Argentina heard that the guy who stole Eva Peron's body said that when he fell asleep for a while he woke up to his truck surrounded by flowers, they just went meh, so what else is new?

I haven't finished the book yet. But so far I like it way more than I did The Shining. The Shining to me was really boring. And I didn't even finish it. The movie is far more entertaining than the book, as far as The Shining goes. That's just my opinion.
