Hi Dave, thank you for this tutorial. I am not a player myself but have my keyboard player doubling on Hammond in my Blues/soul band. (it is a modern` virtual hammond keyboard Roland VR-730 but sounds OK-ish) We are aiming for a pre-rock era 1950s sound. His problem is dialling in the Hammond so its bandwidth sits nicely with the band (= Drums, Elec` bass, 2 x guitars and Chicago style amplified harmonica) Do you have any EQ tips as i am getting tired of the sound overwhelming the band.. we occupy similar bandwidths so this is tricky.. What do the pro`s do live (low cut? compression ??? pulling out/adding certain freq`s?) What tricks make a hammond `sit` just right in a 4-5 piece combo live setting.. Any advice? PJ.
Wow super cool! Wanted to ask your thoughts on buying an SK1 (released 2011) vs. an XK-1C (released 2013; not sure if you've played those ones or not); they're both getting a bit old now, so wondering if you think those are still smart to buy in 2023 or am I better off buying a Nord Electro 6D, Yamaha YC61, or spending way more on an XK-5 (or the recently announced XK-4)? Would appreciate your input. I'd be using it as a second gigging keyboard (just part time fun type stuff) with a Yamaha digital piano (the piano actually has drawbars and good organ sounds as well, but it's fully weighted keys and I'd really prefer the proper semi-weighted waterfall keys for organ pieces). Thanks!
Hey David! Unrelated to the drawbar settings, I was just curious if the C3 we're hearing in the video has had the tone generator re-capped. I'm thinking of doing it to my '62 A100 with the original wax caps and I know alot of people advise against it. I love the way my organ sounds but can't help but wonder if it may sound better after a recap, the original caps probably being out of spec and all.
Sir you are a great teacher of Organ and sound when it comes to changing the sound with the Leslie button. You explain that we'll, and you Sir is an expert in my understanding of what you were saying concerning the keyboard. I liked how you knew with an understanding of how you see it. And what worked for you. May help many thousands. You never know. Much respect for your knowledge of knowing. What may could help some people good video well control cool.
Hi Dave…Awesome job with the Drawbars and the Jazz sounds…So I just started to learn the Hammond And play by Ear, I like how you did the Run on your video 3:29 if you don’t mind could your maybe do a video that covers the descending runs of the fingering to this ? Thanks Jim
Thanks Dave. I really like the sounds you are getting on the lower manual but I can't seem to replicate them on my Hammond SKX. I would be grateful if you could let me know what leslie, chorus settings, etc. you are using on tjhe lower and the cord(s) you are playing. Best regards
Fantastic vid man thanks. I've a 1960 M100 and just got a Korg CX-3 which is a whole different ballgame and you've helped me understand a wee bit more about the workings. Cheers!
Hi Dave, thank you for your valuable info. I have Hammonds, had Hammonds for yrs, however, it's always super nice to hear and see any and all videos redering to drawbar settings and functionality. Seems there is always something new to learn, and your explanation of your settings and how to manipulate them was just wonderful. Thank you and please share more info. Maybe a lesson on blues chording, blues fingering and scales and runs up and down the keys. You have a super way of explaining things. Thank you so much again!
Thanks. Very useful. Why do you have 3 SK1s ?!!! I have been playing a SK1 for 5 years but always looking for new tips. Do you know where to get good practical information about editing and saving voices on the SK1?
Great video. You are sooo right, about the Sk-1. I have two and an SKX and the sounds are phenominal. Have received many compliments when playing these keyboards. Thanks for posting.
Wonderful , Dave . Very useful for a player who is feeling his way on a nice old A-100 . Producing the sound you want via the registrations with balance btwn upper and lower is essential , esp if you have come to organ from piano .
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Kyrie Nicholas i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
