It may not be as strong as it was when you’ve not wash it but not that it will become soft. It will still retain a good amount of stiffness. Are you sure you’re not using the lighter ones? Those ones can disappoint anyways. Better still go for crinoline mesh then.

If you like the fullness of the one I did, then 1 yard each of the fabric is okay. if you want more, then more yardage. But if you're using duchess material, have it in mind that it's a bit of weight , that means you would need a lot of hard net or crinoline to lift it up, else, the weight will bring down your petticoat
