Whenever i do a running braid, pieces almost immediately start falling out :( doesnt matter if the mane is short or long, or whether i keep it tight to the root or let it slope down the neck. I dont really know what im doing wrong because im doing it exactly as you do in the video but it still always comes undone within a day. Any tips?
@@BikerBiddie I don't know about that. I've talked to people that have therapy horses, and they say the horse does it all in the trailer, so it doesn't do it while working. But, the way horse's digestive systems are, they are not going to be able to go for a long time without pooping.
Very helpful. I have to revisit issues around respecting space with my 15 year old appy, frequently. Your video was informative and a good reminder to me about the need to remedy the smaller issues before they become big ones.
This was a great video except my brain works opposite how you trained...working on the outside leg when standing instead of sitting when the inside leg is forward you should be sitting. I am left handed, don't know if that makes a difference or just the way I am trained to learn.
Yes, I totally understand. Hopefully it is still helpful. I'm now sending out videos through my website email, and have them unlisted on RU-vid. If. You'd like to see more, go to www.shadetreestables.com and you can sign up for free ☺️
They have to have a really strong thoracic sling so I would work on self carriage in riding first. Then you can cue with the sound and or tickle with the whip at the elbow, and allow your leg and seat to follow.
I have a question for you. I have an 11 year old mare who is incredibly sharp and quick learning; however, she is set in her ways and although I have her desensitized to the whip, she is still very stubborn on giving her legs or feet at any time. She is so used to touch in these area but like I said, is set i her ways. I have never liked the rope training. Is there some trick you know that could help me here?
Thank you so much for sharing. You are doing a great job for your horses. I have one 31, one 24 and one 22 and am trying to figure out how to best provided for them. The two mares have Cushings which makes it more of a challenge. Blessings to you..
This new trend of bitless bridles is very troubling to me. I've seen horses broken from rearing by putting a bossal over that part of the nose and using that pressure to convince the horse not to rear, whereas a bit didn't have any influence whatsoever. That bossal skinned the ridge on the nose and created an open sore. Over time when using a bitless bridle the bone will thicken and change and even cause a divot in the horse's nose in certain situations. It's not a tool for a novice. It's a torture device.
This can be true for sure when used incorrectly, but I've more often seen remodeling of the bars in the horse's mouth from the use of the bit. You have to pick your poison and use it wisely.
These details Make me concerned for horses where people use bitless bridles when you think about it. The reins are hanging from that delicate part of the skull there, putting pressure on it, whether you touch them or not, and to me that's much more dangerous and uncomfortable than having a bit in a horse's mouth.

Thank you! I post more on Facebook at Deanna Preis Horsemanship at Shade Tree Stables, and my website www.shadetreestables.com if you're looking for more content!
Your video helped me understand the diagonal clearly. I see how the force is transmitted from the saddle to the ground once you sit down & front inside leg is forward (timestamp 1:02). Thanks.
Awesome! I'm glad it was helpful! I wish you the best in your lessons. The learning never ends ♥️ I have started an online library if you're interested. You can find it at www.shadetreestables.com/classes Thanks for supporting my channel!
Awesome! Good luck! If this is not enough, I have more tips on how I'm handling undesired behavior in my stud colt on my website www.shadetreestables.com/classes
Thanks so much for your disclaimer at the beginning! I’ve been having fun teaching my young horse a few tricks and was going to add Spanish walk but he just learned to smile and has been following his 80 year old caretaker around with his lip in the air. I’m going to save this video for later.
Thank you for showing the actual training. There are so many videos on horse training that show them "training" a horse that already knows how to do it. It always makes me feel like I'm doing it wrong because my horse doesn't react like theirs!
You're welcome! Exactly! I have an online course now as well where I will continue to go through the process of training my new Andalusian, and then use the one from this video to show what it looks like over time. You can find it at www.shadetreestables.com under "MEMBERS"
