Still watching in 2024🤣 Although I never rewatch the finale, it’s too sad. Also I feel the storyline with Dorothy and Lucas getting married was too rushed. It would have been better if they had of introduced Lucas earlier in the season and gradually built up to them getting married.
As a kid I liked the final episode but now I realize what a mistake it was. It ended up betraying the entire premise of the show which was that these four women were each other's family now that their husbands were gone and their kids were grown up with their own families. That was the whole point of the show. Marrying Dorothy off and moving her out of the house was a bad idea. I think the actual series finale that would've been perfect were the two part episodes right before with Rose's heart attack. It even felt like a proper series finale for the show. Oh, well too late now. I just wish the series had a proper series finale that honored the whole premise of the series and the characters.
Bea was right. It's always better to go out on top. Everybody Loves Raymond did the same thing. The show was still the number 1 comedy on tv at the time and it was as funny and as fresh as ever but Phil Rosenthal and Ray decided to go out while the show was still beloved instead of being cancelled or drawn out to death and losing all the quality like The Simpsons, NCIS, Law & Order SVU, Grey's Anatomy etc.
She was amazing Sally Field I have followed her roles for a lifetime, she amazing you two were spot on in your roles that you portray. Maura I not know but she is amazing too such a talent a natural in her art.. Happy Birthday to her!
Thank you for posting this wonderful documentary. I agree with the observation post 4 minutes that the show a comedic dramatization of love, warmth and loyalty. We feel that love when we watch it. How the writers and characters approached issues of life was almost like listening to a mentor. Such was the intelligence of the show. And the all age thing is absolutely true. I was in my 20s when I was introduced to the Golden Girls and I love the image of mature life the show offered.
What a gift Susan Harris gave us in the Golden Girls. To create Soap, Benson and then Golden Girls is phenomenal. What a cutting edhe she brought. The show is still energising and inspiring. When I watch the show it gives me sucha feeling of home. Bravo Tutti! And thank you xx
Bravo Jay for switching Betty and Rue. The characters were perfect and so were the actors who portrayed them. The chemistry was an absolute joy for seven years - and in all the time since! Funny, relatable and moving. A well-deserved smash. Thank you, Bea, Betty, Estelle, Rue, Susan Harris and Paul Junger Witt, and all the writers. Truly a work of ensemble genius! xx
