To my knowledge, generator heads only have three wires. L1, L2, ground (split as 1 ground, 1 neutral). What does that mean? 50 a and 30a are running on the same wires. Which means you only need the 50a connected. I have this generator for years. Never opened it but I will and report back.

My experiences with Cornish cross is that they don’t eat enough grass to make a difference. The only reason I moved them daily was because they would kill the grass with the foot traffic and poop if you left them in one spot for more than a day. The last two weeks of their happy little lives I had to move them twice a day. But they are great for preparing a garden spot. Their poop will burn the grass and weeds up and leave behind plenty of nitrogen for your plants

Great review, exactly what I was needng. QUESTION: I was planning to get the Generac 18,000 Watt portable. Do you think its too big for what I need? I have a 5-ton A/C with soft start and a 29kw tankless water heater. I'd like to be able to run the A/C and hot water plus of course my two refridgerators and a couple lights and TV......in the event of a power outage.

I don't know if it's still true, but I think it is, Generac portable generators in this class (those with a V-Twin) are actually Made in the USA. Their smaller ones (with a single cylinder engine) are made in China, but then again, so are everyone else's, with the possible exception of Honda.

My experience with Ready Seal wasn’t positive. Looks great the first season but after that my project looked worse than before applying RS…never again. There are many other products that in my opinion are much better.

The beast that everyone buys touting the huge 17,000 watts but then proceed to hook up the 50 amp plug to an interlock totally not bringing up the fact that they are limited to 12,000 watts and wasting that additional 5000 watts.
@condor5635
@condor5635 Месяц назад
Sounds like you are the only one that has a clue about this generator. Everyone else brags about the 17,000 watts and running it directly from the 50 amp plug only totally ignorant of the wasted wattage they are not able to directly access. Like a car that can go only 100mph but it is capable of 180 mph. Even for your case I wonder why a trifuel generator running peak of 15K and running 12K would not suffice. That keeps it at 50 amps which is huge amount of power and gives you an alternate fuel source like propane or NG. Your panels are completed isolated from one another I guess so it does seems to be a good fit for your case (two independent inlets) other than having to store >75+ gallons of gas to allow for the runs times of 4-5 days. Yeh you are the only one out there that seems to understand what this beast is capable of and how not to waste the power capability.

Not only did you not do 2” which make it a moisture barrier, you are applying your flash and bat with a vapor barrier on the opposite side of the closed spray foam. That creates an area for cold and warm air to meet and condense.

Thanks for sharing your build, I especially like where you talk about the heating system components. I noticed that your piping to all your components is PEX tubing this is the first system I've seen that isn't copper I'd rather use PEX vs copper for plumbing all the components together Have you had any problems with PEX instead of copper setup?

Spray foam is a good tool for an engineer to use when there is limited space (so dense insulation is needed), or when there are lots of air gaps that can't be filled any other way. For example, it is now best practice to use spray foam around all door and window frames. This video is one of the many examples of how it's not the best tool for do-it-yourselfers. Designing a wall assembly in general is very much above the pay grade of even professional builders. If something goes wrong in that wall, you can't easily get inside the spray foam to repair things, so the design needs to be double, triple, and quadruple checked by professionals to make sure everything is done right the first time. I'm glad all you had to do was just spray more foam.

They need to provide better wrenches that don’t bend, Otherwise super cool product and can definitely save time money and materials over buying or building railing. You do need to make sure you’re tightening both and same number of rotations because if not, we will eventually rotate to get the twist out and loosen. Also it’s easy to pull your railings out of line if you don’t have really strong railing connections. These wires are pretty strong.

I see you use orange (oxygen barrier) Pex in the floor but not on the wall. Any reason? You’ll get oxygen in your system and risk corrosion, no? Or am I missing something. Thanks!

So I have the same one for 4 yrs and 80ish hrs and the only issue was the squirrels ate through the gas tank, and to replace the tank is 800bucks. WTF. So I replaced it with a remote mobile off board boat fuel tank with quick connects and its been flawless. that proprietary tank it BS I am going to attempt to plastic weld and mend the tank hole... We shall see. Keep in mind it never has been an issue till this year they ate 6 5 gallon tanks as well and I saw them on camera drinking the fuel... wtf

Great videos. I also live in VA, in the Northern Neck along the Rappahannock River. The only thing you might want to mention is the length you cut the cable. With the system I installed, I cut the cable 1 3/4 inches shorter than the distance between the end posts. This is crucial. Thanks for the time you took to make these videos :)
