I don't live in the US, but I understand there are private breeders as well as the shops. Maybe you have ferret rescue centres which have ferrets ready for adoption.
i had two ferrets, and my first ferret was the first time ive heard the terror screech. he was having seizures, and we rushed him to the vet, but ultimately had to put him down that night. the sound is definitely sickening to hear.
My Chihuahua makes all of those ferret noises I seriously think she was a ferret in her past life because she does the same things, especially the happy dooking sound except that’s her snore sound when she’s asleep. And ferret panting, happily reminds me of how my Chihuahua pants because it’s a quiet and soft sound that it resembles a ferrets. 😂 How are chihuahuas not related to ferrets?! It’s a little freaky in the noise resemblance mine makes when she’s not barking like a dog
Yes, sounds perfectly normal. Ferrets will play, drag and try stash you or your finger places. They don't really understand size well, like most animals. So they are excited, engaged and often frustrated that they can't just take your finger and run off somewhere. They don't necessarily expect "you" to remain attached! 😄
This is top notch! I’m wanting to make something similar for mine but I keep thinking about the opportunities for flies to take over in the summer months. Do you struggle with flies? Or how do you keep them away?
Do you have any concerns when bringing albino ferrets outside? I have an albino ferret myself and vet recommended not bringing her outside. Also, do you do any flea/tick protection/prevention before bringing them outside? Just curious, Love your videos!
What concerns with the albinos? Due to the risks of sunburn? I've not noticed any issues. Yes you can get spot-on flea/tick treatment suitable for ferrets. Ours don't go outside our home so we don't routinely do it, but it's pretty much the same stuff we do give our cats.
Your video answered some of my questions about escape proofing. I live in an area with predators including foxes, raccoons, and stray cats, as well as birds of prey such as hawks, falcons and eagles. For mine, I'll need to add a wire mesh top so my babies are safe when they play. I'll also have underground nesting areas so they can stay cool when our summer heat gets excessive.
In fact, since the owner provides a stable food source, in the ferret mom's eyes, her owner is her leader. In ferric culture, when a new member is born, it is customary to present the newborns to the leader. for familial recognition. and to imprint the leader's scent as a sign of approval if you don’t handle the baby gently with care and you try to force a baby back to the mother she would think that you would not except the baby and she would end up harming the baby or end up killing it. If you do not believe me you can easily Google it or search it on RU-vid.
Awww sweet little Yazzy 😍 I’m glad she got that taken care of. You’re a great dad! I had the same situation with one of my ferts. My vet had to refer me to a dog/cat dentist. I was on pins and needles because he had never had a ferret patient before. Thank goodness it was a success!
