I just spent $1000 on trying to get mine x-rayed and they can’t even tell me what it means. If you ever have a chance to check out Noel Fitzpatrick in England, it’s amazing that we don’t have that kind of thing in this country. I might take him to UGA shortly. We should be able to have insurance on our pets just like ourselves without them claiming pre-existing conditions.🙏😥 Looking to get a wheelchair today or tomorrow. I love my Rex ❤

I didn't have to go that far with tests (and not even sure the Vet clinics in my city would have been able to do them, and the nearest next city is a 16 hour drive!); we just did our research and saw what was happening, and the vet was able to "guess" what it was in the beginning, and as the disease progressed, we were able to get the medication, etc for the disease and provide Tika with the support she needed to have a more comfortable life. I hope Rex does well with the wheelchair! It really was such a blessing and life extender!

Treasure every moment, and know that when the time comes, Koda will not be leaving you. While her physical body will be "expiring", her spirit/soul remains, and she will forever and always be with you. I hope this can bring you comfort.

We said good bye to our GS Toby on 28th Nov 2023 after been with us for 11 1/2 years. It is one of the saddest days of our life. I did not cried that much even when my parents died. He was one of the family and was a big part of ours and our children's life. I could very well understand your grief.

There is no comparable relationship with that of our beloved pet! And that relationship does not end with the "expiry" of their physical body,. I truly believe that the spirit remains forever and always, and so does our relationship, just in a different way.... The things that made Tika Tika were so much more than her physical body/attributes, they were part of her spirit...For example, when you lose a limb, you do not lose part of your "self"... that is always there... Your Toby is always there, and you will carry him in your heart wherever you go. I hope you can find that connection and comfort.

Some of the greatest lessons in life are taught by our pets, and by the relationship we share. I will forever be grateful for Tika's lessons, she has been my greatest teacher! And I know her spirit remains with me to this day, forever and always.

My Bruno was born in January 2007, just like Tika and also a GS. At age six, we noticed a slight wobble in his left leg. My heart sank because I knew what that could mean. He had degenerative myelopathy. Slowly his legs weakened, but he could walk pretty good on soft sand and luckily we lived close to the beach. My son made him shoes with duct tape that could protect and withstand Bruno's back feet dragging when he walked on hard surfaces. I found a pool where he could swim. At age nine he could still get around but soon would need a cart. Unfortunately, Bruno never got that opportunity. He was suddenly sick one day. He was diagnosed with a massive tumor and then he was gone. The grief we all felt was immense and still is. He was family. He was one of us. You gave Tika a great life. To have been blessed with the love of a dog is a great gift in life. ❤

Our pets will always always be with us. They know when we have done everything we could for them, and they pass no judgement. Their spirit continues to accompany us forever and always, and this brings me great comfort. I hope you feel Bruno's! He is right there in your heart.

About 2 years, the final 6 months were tough, but so is our bitter Canadian winter, so that didn't help! (She had skis also!) I could have used a wagon of some sort during those final months, but we still took Tika out a couple of times a day, even if it was just to get fresh air and new scenery so she'd have more stimulation and things to dream about!! Here is her story: www.tawnabrown.com/degenerative-myelopathy-senior-dog/

Yes, it is a difficult thing to think about, but i encourage you to not ignore it, don't be afraid, learn from others' stories and this will only help prepare you for when it's time... and it can be a very beautiful experience and grief journey, as it has been for me. Here is Tika's 2-part story if you'd like to learn more. (This is the link for PART 1, and it will get you to Part 2 also!) www.tawnabrown.com/degenerative-myelopathy-senior-dog/

Your emotions are a sign of a man with a big heart... someone who can feel, and someone who knows love. Not one day has gone by that I've felt Tika's absence; the 3 year anniversary of her rainbow bridge departure just passed on May 28 and I know she is with me every single day. The spirit is forever and always, as is our love and relationship. Tika's 2 part story can be found here: www.tawnabrown.com/degenerative-myelopathy-senior-dog/ (Part 2 is linked at the end of Part 1). Thank you for your kind words.

I lost Shadow, my GSD, on April 29, 2024. I was blessed to have him for 7 years. I had to have to put him down due to internal bleeding most likely from his spleen or a tumor on or close by. His treatment options were nebulous and he had just reached his 8th birthday. I think of him daily and I have been able to reach some solace by expressing thanks to the Lord for allowing him into my life. He was my 7th GSD and the best. I'm not surprised God wanted him back. Better to have experienced unconditional love than not. I hope that you are now able to remember the good times with Tika. Maybe we will all meet at the Rainbow Bridge at a better time.

That is amazing, to have had 7 GSDs in your life thus far! What love! You and I have been blessed to know this kind of love, the bond that we share with our dogs.... and also there is so much comfort in knowing that our relationship never ends with death... it remains forever, as the spirit never dies. Not a day has gone by over the past 3 years where I've felt Tika's absence.... I know she is right there with me, and always will be. The same with all of your GSDs.
