What's funny is seeing someone comment something like this on a 4 year old video. This was from release, the game was not solved and info was not online yet.
using your dodge bag is a functional utility part of the build that keeps you alive mostly. lots of dodging and evading with this build due to being required to stay in the sigil etc, can place up to 2 sigils at a time right ? maybe placing one at the 6 o clock position of an enemy and dodging an attack, then placing another at the 12 positiion, so when you dodge can always have one to cast from ?
Found this video because I'm not enjoying the game but want to try so blue I gotta watch someone else be good lol. But I've been told the butterflies allow you to rest without ambush.
In case you haven't come across the tip yet (it's been a while), if you punch while running and then activate your jetpack, with the right timing it sends you flying forwards instead of up
I've been wanting to try a gun mage build but I don't think ima go for rune mage. I think ima to go mercenary, spellblade, philosopher. I like taking Philosopher for mana regen and fire damage/resistance and spellblade is my favorite trainer. That way I can play a magic pirate build where i use gun and blade!
Might I recommend sticking with runemage but going for runic prefix? The build in the video is "good" but it doesnt hold up to the more recent nerfs to blood bullet, and runic prefix adds some *VERY* nice bonuses to your runespells. My optimal setup would largely be similar to this build, but with a lexicon, and dual bone-pistols replacing the blue rune, and the ice and shatter imbues respectively. Having the lexicon and guns on your hotbar lets you swap between them fast, using the cold imbue however is often once over due to the need to get the cold boon applied each time, the shatter reload is likewise a slow reload, whereas the blood bullet does *not* consume the possession boon. Granted you cant cast and have your guns out, but what you can do is cast runic blade, fire off a bone-pistol shot inflicting haunted, swap to lexicon cast runic blade a second time, creating the great runic blade, then go in swinging and casting further offensive rune-stuffs(great runic blade itself functions as a lexicon.)
There's an updated method, instead of runic mage, now use hex mage with rainbow hex enchantment on a steel sabre to be deadlier. I've made a variation based on a Thanos Rainbow Hexer build focusing on pistol, sabre and hex finisher. It is now much more destructive and you are no longer running away from enemies, a true blade dancer and gunslinger. Blood Bullet may have been nerfed but now it somehow balanced being a complementary skill that synergized as part of the build. Hex is there to finish up strong enemies, while guns are either to create openings for bladework or one shot with frost bullet AOE. Right now I've restarted my game without using debug mode and some other helping mods to experience the original pure system. Instead of three guns, I'm refining the method of rotation using only one gun or perhaps two if Chimera's elemental vulnerability could be useful to soften up boss fights. Details of my method are written as guide, the Blackbeard Pirate build, posted on steam guide page. Feel free to comment or criticize any weakness to make it better. I enjoy a blade dancer gunslinger mage gameplay.
see I'm doing a similar thing, but with 3 guns, 1 cannon, 2 bones. The cannon inflicts confusion, the bones inflict haunted, and any of the 3 with scattershot imbue will inflict pain. Pain, confusion and haunted are each hexes, and therefore a trigger for both/either torment and rupture. Add runes into that and really the blood bullet isnt even needed, which is rather fortunate given that it was nerfed with a heavy cooldown. My build runs the runesage and hexmage breakthroughs because I need them for rupture and internal lexicon(the advanced rune-combos are nice but not strictly "needed" just a sort of added bonus). I'm not sure what I should have as the third breakthrough. Bloodbullet just no longer does enough to justify it when I could hotbar a stack of cool potions instead(and with the hexmage breakthrough, you're never gunna have enough HP burn to warrant gravel beetle usage as anything but cool pots anyway). It does seem like my third breakthrough choice comes almost purely down to passive effects simply because my hotbar is too consumed with other stuff. 2 runes(the third and fourth are mainly to trigger lantern and runic shield, so they're an "out of combat" piece), 2 guns(third starts each combat equipped from inventory), frost imbue, fire/reload, torment and rupture. I could swap out torment to make the cool pots easier to use, and making reload faster, but I'm not 100% sure. It doesnt seem too needed outside of bosses, and from my experience bosses themselves tend to have grace periods built into their move-sets to allow for faffing about with quick inventory stuffs.
@@joefadda578 I would love to know how this build turned out? I want to do a gunmage again but with all the DLC's and the rebalancing of a lot of equipment in the release of Outward DE, I don't think the old gunmage can cut it. I want to see if anyone has come up with a new version with the addition of the DLC's and Outward DE.
Hey Christopher! Not sure if you've played Outward, but it takes quite a bit of work to even unlock magic. First you have to unlock mana, and then you have to pay a skill trainer to unlock abilities. That's multiple hours in to even cast a spell.
I think swapping your off hand can be fine if you want to maximize the output for both gun attacks and rune spells. This is what I am currently considering.
I would suggest nixing cold-bullet imbue, shatter-bullet imbue and blue-rune in favor of twin bone pistols and a lightmenders lexicon on the hotbar. This setup will grant you the luxury of being able to take runic prefix instead of mandating internalized lexicon via swapping between 2 guns and your lexicon. Bone pistols inflict haunted which goes well with runic blade, runic greatblade, runic trap and runic detonation because all of these do their "main damage"(runic prefix buffs each of these with secondary damage) as ethereal. All of which are readily castable with just purple, orange and green. The runic greatblade can also be used as a lexicon in and of itself. The only things you need the blue rune for are light(castable outside of combat from skills-list), protection(again castable pre-combat from skills), heal(consumes protection, castable post-combat from skills), and lighting(ok you'll be missing out on this). What do you get out of runic prefix? Well... Runic blade comes with a bolt imbue, while runic greatblade comes with a decay imbue. Runic detonation and runic trap each do 30 and 40 extra decay damage respectively. Runic protection gets +5 phys resistance(total 20) +1 protection(total 3) and +10 to all elemental resistances(normally none). Runic light is 150 seconds longer. Runic heal also heals 2 hp a second for 10 seconds after it does its normal heal. Runic lighting gets 10 points more lightning damage and can light campfires(though you wont really get to use it with the above setup).
This is undoubtedly powerful build, combining two mighty classes, however, I'm afraid it might be somewhat redundant has overlapping specializations. Runes do provide traps, some utility (light, heal, armor...), ranged att. as well but you have no mana regen or big mana pool - since hybrid build hardly justifies one. Also, you're bound to use light mana reduction armor, but you're not really a true mage - you kill with guns. Gunslinger on other hand doesn't require magic to function. I combined mine with rogue, so I have traps when mobs chase me, they get pained and confused from traps /guns so if they survive are an easy pick for dagger skills which do quadruple damage on both effects. On the other hand I have pure rune mage (philosopher/shaman) with proper magic gear, set, maximizing lightening /ethereal gear, mana regen, lexicon, +additionl spell effects and it mows down anything with spells, no weapon, gun/bow is necessary for a true mage. It just seems that maximizing either of these classes would do better then trying to combine them. And I'm not saying that it can't work (or that it isn't fun) cause it obviously does.
if you're gonna do a sigil gunmage, then probably better to equip runic armor + white wide hat + lightmender's backpack + chimera pistol, coz wind sigil doubles the gun damage and converts it to lightning damage and chimera pistol has the highest damage output. edit : i just remembered. lightning bullet doesn't proc if your gun is imbued, so using obsidian pistol with wind sigil is pointless.
I'd go with horror chest, then jade lich head/boots. Dual bone pistols on hotbar 1, blood bullet, reload/fire. Then all runes save for blue on hotbar 2 so that I can fit a lexicon on there too. This would allow swift swaps between both pistols and the lexicon, thereby enabling runic prefix as an option. Runic prefix adds decay to damn near everything offensive such a setup could use(rune greatblade, rune-trap, *and* rune-detonation all do decay with prefix). It also adds elemental resistances, and extra defense to runic protection(have to cast this pre-combat through skills-list though) and a heal-over-time effect to runic heal(post-combat, skills list). The bone pistols inflict haunted which will debuff the ethereal resistance enemies have to runic blade, runic greatblade and both rune trap and rune detonation. The jade lich head/boots(mana-cost reduction) and the horror chest also buff your decay damage output, which as previously mentioned, nearly(runic blade comes with a blessed/bolt imbue, not a decay one) all your offensive runestuffs do. The blood bullet also does decay damage which will be boosted by your armor. Oh and lastly your runic greatblade also functions as a lexicon, so you can practically cast runic trap mid-melee with it active.
I'd only hotkey the green, blue and red runes since the purple one is only used for the shield/heal and you only use it out of combat. You can free up the extra slot for the wind sigil so you can recast it in a different location if you really need to
I'd nix the blue rune in favor of the lightmenders lexicon on that hotkey. Purple gives you access to runic blade, and runic greatblade should you need them. The greatblade itself functions as a lexicon, which in turn makes internalized lexicon much less useful. I'd further nix both the cold and shatter bullet as they take too long to set up to use mid combat. Blood bullet infusion just takes the possessed boon to be active. Cold bullet infusion both takes and *consumes* the cold boon. In place of the cold and shatter bullet I would have twin bone pistols. Bone pistols inflict haunted on enemies, haunted makes them weaker to ethereal. Both the rune-traps and each iteration of the rune blade deal all their damage(or most of it if you're working with runic prefix and its buffs) as ethereal.
PSA : If you find this guide, currently Blood Bullet is meefed with a 30s cooldown, so you'll have to combine more with runes or.other skills. The build is still good.tho
75 for the book, 300 for the runes which are all before the 500 cost for the breaktrough, 50+bullets for a single flintlock if you don't find it on your way to Brent. This is the absolute bare minimum for a build that wants to use runes and a gun, it disregards skills for reload speed (because reaching Levant isn't something you'd call a journey for someone at the start of the game), more advanced rune magic, removing the need for the lexicon so you can just hold your gun and the necessary clothing to diminish mana costs.
for those reading now there are better armor available, i'd just be changing the hat (preferably white hat, but i'd be bringing a spare pearlbird and lightmender for some situations) as well as Red Clansage Robe. White Arcane Robe is nice for elemental protection but given the 60kg backpack one might be better of bringing some elemental resistance potions and lantern of souls instead to deal with the most of the elemental damage.
Great Video. After playing with 1h+shield melee build, 2h build, Bow build and did not really like that play style in this game. So i am thinking of starting again as Mage, And this look nice. Do you know if this still work here in 2020 ? And tips on what to aim for first when getting my skills / spells ? What fraction to choose ? How many point into mana in the start on the game ? (i was thinking of 2) Thanks kindly.
This won't be a optimized gun build in 2020. Currently gun build could be super op, with sigil of wind and multiple gun uses. Blood bullet got debuffed. It ain't strong anymore.
You can built an alt carrier on your second controller and then spit screen on your main. Load your player character from controller 2 then transfer all your stuff from the main controller character. Quit start with a new character and then split screen and load the character from controller 2 with all your goodies and drop them off for your new character. You now have everything at the beginning of the game.
