Amazing stuff. Probably a dumb question, but it seems you go 3D print- fibreglass- fibreglass again- is there a reason not to use the 3D print as the mould and skip the second fibreglass piece? Want to do the same, thanks!
So essentially it boils down to reusability. Once you pull one part off a printed mold, you'll see it will destroy the mould. So if you want to make more than one copy, you are better off creating the extra step to create a reusable mold. We figured if we are going through the whole process we might as well have a copy of the molds
They've remained fairly accessible here in South Africa, depending on condition and the model (obviously things like M3s fetch a lot more but all of these except the mx5 are easy to find for sub €4000, our E36 cost half that and was well maintained.
any chance I can toss you a few bucks for the 3d model? I'm also doing an E36 sedan and having an existing design to modify might make it worth taking a stab at...Otherwise i don't think I'm talented enough to get something that fits.
We are in the process of cleaning it all up and making final adjustments now, in preparation of making more kits. We will get in touch if and when we are able to do that👍👍
@@klutchkulture I have to thank you man :) Great content! I'm going to follow your channel to. Really like your editing and I have so much respect for giving away the E36.
I like hearing the stories about the potjie (last episode), being afraid to pull over for a flat because the EFF is striking, and seeing ou baas flash his piece as he was getting out of the car (last episode). Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I think highlighting car culture as it is in SA is more interesting than trying to simulate car culture as it is elsewhere (you mentioned car culture in the US and Europe last episode).
The Ferret Pro 3D Scanner that you can use on your phone, is on sale right now for $350 would highly recommend it, 3D scanning my 914 for a new body printed with 3D printer.
Definitely need to see a regular podcast… Whether it is an audio only cast or video cast, a cast is needed. You could probably get away with fifine mics off of takealot ( I have the T669 but I don’t use it because I have no personality for the internet) you would just need to fine tune the audio with something like audacity and some sound dampening. There is definitely a market for your guys content in SA. Keep up the hard work and the great content
3D Printer prices range vastly but can start as little as R4500 (roughly 250USD) but check on market place for something like a Creality Ender 3 to get started.
We can maybe point you in the right direction of who can help as we know a lot of guys in the after market game. Are you looking for a proper race spec one or just one for aesthetics etc.
