Heading to Missoula next month for a 3 day fly fishing trip. Will probably fish Bitteroot and Rock Creek. What time of year were you there and what weight fly rod did you mainly use. Enjoyed the content. 👍
I fly fished that same stretch of river in 1983 with my dad. Down to the city park in Dillon. We floated it twice in one day, we each caught 60 fish, all between 16 and 24 inches, with the one exception, I landed a 25 inch, 5 1/2 lb Brown out of a 2 foot tributary out of a cow pasture. Guided by my good friend's dad who was at the time, the game manager for the Beaverhead National Forest.
@@williamwojcieszek4320 it is what it is, I'm just glad I finished when I did and didn't have to go back this fall. I feel horribly sorry for the students right now.
@@bingerboysoutdoors8085 Yes, just awful. I’m really looking forward to hitting the Driftless next Spring - these vids are keeping me entertained in the meantime.
William, this was on the 4th actually! Happy Independence day, am I right?! It was absolutely epic. In response to your other comment about how to find streams like this, we have had a ton of luck with smaller tributaries that dump into bigger rivers such as the Big Green, etc. Find those bigger rivers on a map and take a look at all of the little streams that branch off from it and fish those. They do not seem to get as much pressure as the main rivers/streams and typically hold a lot of trout, big ones as well.
@@bingerboysoutdoors8085 thanks so much! You guys are having so much fun, it’s really great to see! I’d give anything for one more fishing day like that with my pops.
Wow that’s a big ass butter knife 😂. Great video! I never fished for trout before, it is something I’m about to start doing soon! Beautiful place to fish and I bet those trout were delicious! Great channel you guys have and I just subscribed! Throw a sub back my way if ya can. Looking forward to more great videos and good luck in the outdoors!
Zach thanks for the sub and the comment, you gotta trout fish man! Especially in the summer while there is nothing better to do. You will fall in love instantly. If you have any questions about getting into it make sure to reach out. We have an instagram, @b.b_outdoors, send us a message if you need any advice! Good luck to ya
Dylan, glad you asked. Rock creek is in western Montana. It’s headwaters are a few miles west of Philipsburg and it flows throughout the Lolo national forest. Definitely recommend it if you ever visit
Was just checking out your channel , good video friends , So i subscribed , Montana is right up the road from me , get a chance stop over and check us out also and maybe Sub back
@@bingerboysoutdoors8085 Took me awhile to figure that out. On small (and clear running) streams like this one, it's often difficult to even get close enough to cast without spooking the Trout. One shadow or disturbance on the water from the fly line is enough for their lateral lines to sense it and run. I love fishing small streams and the challenges they present. I recognized this one immediately, and have fished it many times. Further upstream past the next bridge is Brookie water, if you can figure out how to get in through the jungle of brush and boulders. There is also a spectacular spring with water gushing out of the hillside. Good luck!
William Schlafer we love fishing this particular stream, it is easily one of our favorites (if not #1) in Wisconsin. That’s good to know, we love chasing Brookies just as much! Good luck to you as well, full bend from us Binger boys!
@@bingerboysoutdoors8085 All we can do is improve and luckily you have footage to see where you are able to! Looks like an awesome area and a blast to fish. Important to make sure those casts aren't smacking the water before you deliver to the appropriate area. There are streams all over the country where fish don't see much pressure. Kill the habit and if you ever come out west you'll be well versed! Tight lines
A technique question: At the 2:45 mark you do three false casts, but let each land on the water then strip back for the next cast. It doesn't seem to spook the fish as you do hook up on the final cast, but I wonder why you let the line hit the water? Seems if you're just doing it to "pay out" more line or locate your final fly landing location you could do those false casts in the air rather than on the water? Love the videos! Nicely shot, great commentary. And the Driftless is chock-full of amazing trout water.
Salmo, thanks for asking about our technique! In all honesty, we are not the most experienced fly fisherman and it is easier for us to let our casts land on the water like you saw and strip back for the next cast. This helps us more easily get a good lay with our fly. Performing our false casts in the air is still a work in progress and poses a challenge to our casting accuracy right now. We appreciate you watching and love the positive feedback!
The Brown Life thanks dude, we appreciate it. We’ve had a little break in the action due to some camera issues. We’ll fire some vids out soon. And to you, sick fish yesterday. Absolute Wisconsin beaut!
Thanks Chad, just saw your comment and realized we did not reply. We are using a DSLR to record our videos. More specifically, it is the Canon EOS Rebel T7i. It shoots awesome video!
