Does the olive oil cause any plumbing problems? It’s an oil so I wonder about that.
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 6 дней назад
That’s a great question! But once the olive oil goes through the saponification process, it’s no longer just oil-it becomes soap. So, when you use the soap, there aren’t any leftover oils to worry about clogging your pipes. Everything rinses clean, just like with any regular soap.

To avoid dangerous splatter always shut off the beater mixer before you take the it out of the liquid and never insert it into the liquid while it's already running and always run it at the lowest speed and use the tallest, heaviest, and most stable bowl you can get away with to block any splatter and avoid spillage. Pretty simple. To lessen air bubbles use only one of the beaters instead of two.

Thank you for this video 🙂 I've been making soap for many years, not a lot of soap as other people, but still quiet a bit, because I don't sale soap but from the beginning I learned that a stick blender or by hand would be the best solution because a hand mixer would put a lot of tiny air bubbles in the soap, which is nothing wrong but will make the soap float, so I never use a hand mixer ... True or false? 😀 BTW my stick blender I had in the house back then (about 13years ago) was a stick blender purchased at a garage sale for $2 and is still in use today 😀 so I think for soap equipment garage sale and second hand stores are a good option 😀 Happy soaping! ❤
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 6 месяцев назад
Yes… absolutely!! Thrifting is a great way to get a stick blender. There is no need to purchase a new one at first. As for the hand mixer making the batch float… I have heard that as well that it may result in the bar floating. Which either way, sink or float is not the end of the world. However, this was my first batch that I used a hand mixer on, mainly just wanted to test it out, 😁 Well it did the job. As for floating, this batch did not float. So, I don’t know if my results are typical or if I would have had different results if I would have mixed to a medium to heavy trace. I may revisit this in the future to see if I get different results. So stay tuned😁 Thank you for your comment and happy soaping

Thank you so much for the information Please how long does it take to reach trace with the hand mixer? I really want to start soap making but I don't have stick blender and it is costly here.
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your question. I will do my best to answer. This particular batch came to trace for me in about 10-12 minutes with the blender. However, this was a bit more than a light trace, as I wanted the mix to be a heavier trace for this batch. Trace, is not typically measured in time, but rather measured by when the visible traces are noticed when stirring the mixture. This can be different times for different recipes, or even climate conditions in different batches of the same recipe. Good luck with your soaping journey😁😁 Stay Rooted and Embrace the Suds 😀😀

Your videos are so nice to watch. Thank you for explaining things as you go! Do you usually use clay, and save colloidal oats for an oat & honey soap?
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 7 месяцев назад
I usually use clay with all my milk recipes as it adds some exfoliation to the bar and helps anchor the fragrance. I sometimes use it in the oats and honey recipes, but not always. And I tend to keep the oats for the oats and honey recipe. No particular reason, but that’s how I have been doing it. Hope that helps and thank you for nice words and support.

I have a question. I was making CP soap the other day. My oil was around 120 and my lye around same temp. When I poured my lye in my whole batch completely when so thick I couldn't hardy stir it. Is used a soap Cal. What happened? It was a HOT mess!
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 7 месяцев назад
Omg I bet you did have a hot mess… there are several variables that could possibly have happened here. I honestly don’t know… different oils and fats react differently with lye so that could be the case, the lye solution could have been a bit to concentrated, or it could be just a bad batch… and that’s ok too. We have all experienced bad batches through the learning process. You might play around with your recipe and adjust the oil ratios and try again. I have had batches that just didn’t work out but slight modifications through soap calc and they turned out great. Don’t give up and happy soaping 😁
@soulkalastudio
@soulkalastudio 3 месяца назад
Perhaps it was too hot, because heat can speed up saponification. Try to mix in at maybe 100 degrees F (45-50deg C), also check on your soapcalc recipe it's high in stearic acid (also can speed up saponification), check the saturated fats vs unsaturated fats ratio too, I think having a higher saturated fats (butters & coconut oil, palm oil) can also cause it to thicken up fast.. There's a number of different things that could have caused that. Those are some of the few

Hi. What is the difference between this hot process without using crockpot and another hot process method using crockpot? Using crockpot should be more convenient? Thanks for your video tutorial ❤
@rootedcoop
@rootedcoop 8 месяцев назад
Hello and thank you for your comment, question and kind words 🥰. So I will try to answer as best I can. Either method works great and both yields a similar bar of soap. Countertop is a way to get to the result, if you don’t have a crockpot that you want to dedicate to soaping, or don’t want to make the investment to just try it out. The countertop method is a quicker way to get to end result, but it has a drawback of having to be right there with it. The crockpot method takes more time so keeping an eye on it while it goes through the stages could be inconvenient. I prefer this method mainly because I want to get to the end result quicker. So either way is great, it just depends on your preference. Thank you so much for the question 😃

Thank you, I am so happy you enjoyed the video. It is possible that the EO would last or maintain longer using this method, since the EO doesn’t go through the saponification process. I have had good results with both EO and Fragrances that don’t do well with other methods or tend to be light fragrances once complete. The best way to know for sure is to give it a try and see how it does with this method. I would love to hear how your batch turns out 🥰 Happy Soaping 😁😁😁
