There is a Bedford QL truck just dumped near where I live !! It's a bit of history from WW2 just rotting away slowly .( Very dry climate here ) It's a crying shame really ! It's got a CMP rear end ! I made a couple of local WW2 museums aware of it but got no answer ! ( and a couple in Canada ! Where it was made possibly ? No answer either !)
She looks like she’s all there, just needs a going through. My old man had a Tipper version and he said it was one of the most reliable Lorries he ever owned just a bit underpowered and he got a lot of site work out of it before he let it go for a Bedford TK Tipper just a year old but he reckoned it wasn’t the Tipper it should have been. Happy memories.
I drove one of these on long distance in the early 1970s. With the split grill, this is an early model. This one is far more luxurious than mine was, this one has a 2-speed axle, a double passenger seat - and a heater!
A local haulage company I worked for in the 60's purchased two Bedford / Scammell tractor units, and fitted each with a small flat body for coal delivery.
Keeping the chassis and frame - add the most powerful cheapest engine and a few other salvage aspects for performance and look - remove excess panels and style to taste - ratrod There's a winner in here ** ford transit **
hi harry just found you by accident looking for vintage lorries i am 75 now in the 1960s i worked as a trainee salesman for p pike and co plymouth we were main dealers for all the popular british makes of bikes scooters and reliant three- wheelers i sold examples of this very bike your pictures bring back wonderful memories all the very best from EDDY in devon uk
I had a DOT street bike 1949 vintage which I bought second hand for £10. I passed my test on it in 1967 at 16 years of age. The bike had a 197cc Villiers engine, 3 speed gear box and the max speed on the speedo read 55mph. Hard tail and girder forks made it a pretty harsh ride but in those days the roads were in better condition than nowadays. I wish I had kept that bike as it would have been worth a fair bit of money these days! I still ride but now have a Triumph Speedtriple. :-)
