Road Odyssey is about the things you can do in your car to have fun... I most enjoy Corvette content, especially C8 topics, Toyota 86 topics, and shop tours. I enjoy sharing featured car builds - restorations, restomods, etc - at various custom car shops, We enjoy car shows, cars and coffee, car reviews, and car history. Often taking scenic and spirited car drives / car cruises. Visits to museums, parks, old towns, historic places, and interesting places. We typically travel in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Sometimes I will share interesting back roads that fewer people tend to drive.
Once in a while I will host free car cruises open to everyone. Go to our web site for more information: ntxro. Also on FaceBook.
The sound you hear is not your "valve train" lol. Its your exhaust valve closing in V4 mode. Direct injection engines make a lot of noise due to the high pressure fuel injectors / pump. Alot of people mistake the sound for a bad lifter when its completely normal. I have two cars with LT engines and they both have that ticking sound. When i removed the sound deadening foam that covers the fuel rail / hpfp on my camaro to make room for a larger intake manifold, the sound got noticably louder.
I had the 2020 C8 Z51 Stingray and absolutely loved it. As did my wife. We now have the 2023 C8 Z06. Even better in some ways. Love it equally. At some time we hope to trade in wife’s Jaguar FType for C8. She can see out of it very well.
Thanks for the kind words Burke! It actually came out better than I was concerned it might but the important thing is the car is back on the road and most importantly, your daughter has a safe and reliable driver.
Did you have any issues with the car being too low with the ramps? I have a similar set that I’ve been using for my wife’s hatchback. But just eyeballing it, I think my BRZ would either scrape or “push” the ramp out of the way if I tried to use them
Great job, I feel qualified to work on a Subayota! One thing that you need to be careful with ramp if you have a real smooth garage floor, depending on the brand, they can shoot out from under your car.
I tried holiday Chevrolet and they weren’t so nice. Told me the line was years long and that they required a $5000 premium for Stingray. Wouldn’t even discuss a Z06. I’m glad you had a great experience there. Did you have to pay a dealer markup for either Stingray or Z06? Finally got my cars after a years wait at a great small dealer in Greenville at MSRP.
They have always done me right. Markups were no longer a thing for Stingrays by fall of last year. Z06 markups had almost stopped or were much smaller by then too. For me, I had just a few grand markup. Was small enough that what I got as a trade in value for my red stingray off set the difference. So the numbers balanced pretty well. They told me the line was too long for them too. But I made it very clear I was serious. Very clear. So when one came up that was for sale for any reason I got a call. So they did pay attention to me. I have a friend that should be getting his Z06 right now from Holiday. He talks to them “a lot” and does all his maintenance with them. I think that may have helped. Don’t know if he paid MSRP. Knowing him he probably only did pay MSRP. ??? I think Greenville is good. I hear they are equally as good as most. Jump on my Facebook if you can and send me a pic of what you got!!! Glad you also have yours. 👍👍👍
Very good question!!! I’ve been so busy I didn’t think about it. I will ask around. There was a Texas schedule floating around on the forums when the Stringrsy came out. Might try forums…
I've spent my entire life in the Auto / Truck / Marine Shop and the one single common rule has always been YOU DO NOT WALK INTO A WORKING SHOP WEARING FLIP FLOPS.. PERIOD no no wait period .. your toes are your friends . I've seen a younger "Mechanic" drop a slippery brake caliper and then took the Ambulance ride to the hospital where they failed to reinstall his big toe we even had a guy across the shop doing a full exhaust system and using a torch when a Molten ball popped and landed directly between this guys foot and the top strap and melt down into his flesh so YES I have ZERO sympathy for anyone who wears flip flops into a working shop then try's to sue our insurance company when they get hurt .....Much like when I see guys wearing flip flops with a Standard shirt car . That is a 100% recipe for disaster just waiting to happen ..
True. Most of these small shops do little in the way of safety until insurance becomes involved. Well. At least insurance. I’ve been a safety mgr. I see bad stuff all the time. They have extremely good rationalizations for being lax on safety. Eventually they do tend to improve. When I watch Vice Grip Garage I see lots of bad stuff, just as an example of a small shop with big income, or so it seems. The shops are completely aware. All of the many shop owners I’ve recorded/talked to know. They figure it out the reality of importance eventually…. lol 😂
Sounds like the wrong person did the wiring on it before the shop got their hands on it. Nothing surprises me anymore. Cool car and glad it's another one kept on the road.
Yup. Prior shop situations for sure. The wacky stuff I see coming from some other shops is amazing enough I seriously want to make a video just on weird stuff. It amazing.
I think it will be twin turbos. I do not think it will have any additional electric motor similar to ERAY. I like to think GM will treat the ZR1 purely fossil fuel driven and American muscle motorhead know-how to capture the competition. I could be wrong, but its a nice thought. It also looks like GM is really bringing back the El Camino SS! That could be a huge win for GM.
Police don’t need military style SWAT machines. If they are really public servants they don’t need to dress like military special operators. Police have lost their job descriptions when they want military style machines. I used to be totally pro police but I have seen too many who don’t know the law and try to coerce citizens into giving up their rights. I love cars and sharing my Vettes and other vehicles so I appreciate your site. I wish the police would learn more courtesy in dealing with the public.
Sorry. Completely disagree. That’s like saying firefighters don’t need fire trucks. They have as much right to bodily protection as anyone else. Your comment is overly generalized. That’s my opinion.
@@RoadOdysseyyour entitled to disagree however my experience obviously differs from yours. The ATF and Little Rock Police just murdered an innocent man by military swat style agents in a no knock raid at 6:00am. They cut power to the house, jammed their cell phone, taped over their ring camera so they couldn’t see who it was, did not use body cameras as required by policy and busted down his door and entered in total darkness. The citizen thought he was being home invaded by criminals and fired shots to protect his wife. He was then shot in the head and murdered standing by his wife. He was never informed the ATF suspected him of any crimes yet they put tracking devices on his car. His work as the director of the Little Rock airport earning $260,000 annually proved he was not a firearms dealer and everything he was doing with his firearm hobby was perfectly legal, yet he’s dead unlawfully. There were 10 carloads of military styled agents that used military tactics against a completely innocent civilian. In addition they then put his wife in a car in 32 degree weather in her nightgown and would not inform her as to her husband’s status nor let her go to the restroom for 4 hours. She was then taken to a fire station in her nightgown and paraded in front of firefighters to go to the restroom. The ATF director testified in front of Congress, was an arrogant liar and wouldn’t admit they mishandled this killing an innocent civilian. Look this testimony and circumstances up on you tube and then tell me that citizens deserve military tactics and weapons. Whatever happens to the ATF as a result is legal and appropriate. I don’t want such tactics and outcomes as this from LEO.
I'm glad faraday pouches were made for fobs. They are more comfortable to carry in pockets then the hard shell "Hyperyion" fob case. Be sure you have your car serviced at reputable dealerships with honest, knowledgable staff at all levels from the porters, mechanics, service advisors that have access to your fob to the boss. The criminals subscribe to carshow apps too. They go where the prey is. Be safe.
Much appreciated. I may chicken out on the best one… Ravelco. Idk what I want to do yet…. I will likely wait a long time. I have put a lot of money into other things…. Daughters car repairs, a very long mountain trip, etc. I need to really think about it and do more research.
Wow!!! Nice. … I have been moving the opposite direction. Lived in Dallas most of my life. Keep moving north to get out of rat race. McKinney is great. Lots going on in that area for sure. Hope you do great there!!! Need that vette to get thru traffic on 75!!! lol 😂 Thanks for comment. Where did you get your vette?
@@RoadOdyssey got it at Britain in Greenville. I’m number 7 on their Z06 list but they haven’t gotten many allocations even though they sell lots of Stingrays. Still hoping for a 2025. Might be interested in the new purple color if I get an allocation.
I am a Gen Xer trying to decide between a 911 S and a C8 Corvette as a weekend car. I have a BMW M3, but will be giving it to my son. We daily drive a Model 3 Performance and a Model Y Performance. We also have a lifted Toyota 4Runner.
Very nice set of exciting cars. Between 911 and C8…. They both have great positives. C8 might be better as GT. Porsches are certainly “weapons”. If you have the money you might try the C8 Z51 or Z06 first. I’m thinking you sound like a Porsche person though… 🤔
