This is cool, but couldn’t we have just ordered one of those bridge girder erection machines from China that they use for building all their high speed rail stuff?
Putting all that hard work. Into the most out dated rail system in the modem world😂😂😂. I started taking almost 30 years ago. And still takes forever to get someone.
bear in mind and im sure you are aware that the Co. that did this railwork is not run by (1) the federal gov (2) the provincial gov (3) the city of toronto....none of which are known for lightning reflexes on ANYTHING 'cepting partisan issues! that is sad.....
What’s funny is that you made this comment without taking 10 seconds to think of the difference between the two projects because you were so eager to engage in government bashing. This is being done *above grade* while the majority of the Eglinton subway is below grade. I agree that the Eglinton line is taking far too long, but you’re trying to compare apples and oranges, this section of track doesn’t even have a station, has little to deal with in terms of below grade infrastructure like power lines, sewers etc. nor does it require a third rail for power and isn’t having to deal with a pandemic in the middle of the project. They are using a novel method of situating the sections of track and it is very cool, and makes the work lightning fast but the scope of the project is completely different from Eglinton.
Construction is always awesome to look specially when you people explain how you do it, if possible hopefully Toronto gets it public projects done soon, so that I don’t need to sell my kidney to travel down town. Keep up the great work you people are real hard working humble men
So cool. I'm loving you channel I have so many questions but to many to ask on this platform or at least I don't think so. I think that alot of people aren't overly interested in reading one that would take hrs to read. K I'm exaggerating maybe not that long. Ty again for putting this stuff up 👍🇨🇦🔧
We are thankful to have the Kirkfield Lift Locks operational. Many boaters travel the Trent Canal system and these locks are the connection system to make it possible. Hoping all locks,, and swing bridges are inspected, repaired and or replaced as they are what make the Trent Canal system part of our history. Good job to all involved!
So cool. When was this? I work for a large cement company in the gta and never heard anything about it. I know it was coming down but I still thought the guys would have mentioned it
Thanks for your comment. This project started in Oct 2020 and wrapped about 11 months later. You can see the full video of this demolition project here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sqFgbhMp1gY.htmlsi=VF40abxRN3VxMAq4
@@ConcretePicturesInc Hey ty ever so much for the response. I just subbed to your channel and I'm definitely going to check it out. I'm just a truck aka mixer mechanic and find it very interesting. I never see exactly what the trucks do. If I'm seeing them they are generally in the shop. So ya see you again soon in the comment section 👍 🇨🇦 🔧
Thanks for your comment. We were told that fact by the railroad officals. It was (it no longer exists hence the new raised crossing) definitely one of the busiest in NA. That is an easy Google check. You tell us. Which one is the busiest? Sounds like you would know this information.
A mile west on the same CP freight line, the junction diamond was to my knowledge the most used prior to it's underpass 8ish years ago, I work right next to that intersection and trains are now every 5 to 7 mins passenger north south (GO and UP) and 2 to 3 freight per hour east west (CPKC) at peak times. I'm very positive davenport diamond was holding back GO service expansion for barrie as CP had priority.
That's amazing to me how they can be so precise bringing these structures down. It's been a couple years but I remember watching them take a building down right beside a church. It wasn't just a small town one it was huge and most of it was stained glass (Real stained glass not the look like stuff of today) and if I recall one piece got broken. Simply amazing. Gone are the days of smashing them down. Ty for another interesting video 👍🇨🇦🔧
I should have mentioned that I took a fleet job to wrap up my career and wouldn't you know it it's a fleet of mixers. I'm going to guess your video came up because of "Concrete" I mention that in alot of my comments. 👍🇨🇦🔧
Hey new guy here. I don't know why I'm just coming across your channel now. I will definitely be going back to watch previous videos and catch up. I can't believe for the life of me why you channel hasn't came close to the attention it deserves. This is our back yards it not hundreds or thousands of miles away. Sure you have the Hoover dam ifel tower you know the famous places and people forget that we have things like that and sometimes alot better not even an hour away. I just finished the video about the kirkfield lift and it has got to be one of the best videos I've ever seen in the genre. I know that I'm only one nobody guy but I will definitely be sharing your videos to anyone who will listen. Be prepared for your channel blowing up no wait going viral is the lingo used these days. Ya I'm older than dirt and not up on all of it. But I definitely know a good video when I see one. So ya please be prepared I have 2 really close friends so I can count on them showing some love to your channel!!! Oh yeah did I mention that I have a F ed up sence of humor. 😜On a serious note you really do have a great thing going. I'm glad I came across it and I will definitely support you in any way shape or form. I'm a 30 plus years as a heavy truck mechanic so stuff like this is right up my alley. See you in the comment section of your next video 👍 Actually see you in the comment section of your older videos 😂. Till next time always remember to "Keep it rubber side down" 10-4 there driver 👍 cmon 👍🇨🇦🔧
Absolutely amazing. The work and the video. I guess you could say that we got our money's worth for it lasting so long. PRIME example of how they don't make em like they used to. Can you imagine let's say a large car manufacturer building it😂. Better be prepared to do some portageing. Ya I can't spell I'm a diesel mechanic not a writer 😂. Anyway ty ever so much for putting this up. I can remember going to my son's hockey tournaments and some of them were at/in the Ptbo lock. What I wouldn't give to go back to them day's. They grow up so fast. Enjoy each and every minute spent because I'm here to tell you that if you loose something like that your world will never be the same. But ya ty for this. You did a professional job doing it. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend. I'm willing to bet that the locks will be busy as all get out seen as the kids are back in school tomorrow. Sorry I know that I'm getting a little carried away but just had to mention everything. The fact that I stumbled across this video on my birthday is priceless. This gift of taking me back is definitely one of the best gifts of all time. I'm older than dirt. Not as old as the lock but definitely up there. Finally ty to all the men and ladies for the work you do. An extra hats off. Stay safe 👍🇨🇦🔧
Was driving past here a month or two ago on the way to a work site and stopped for a bit to watch it cycle a few times as I've never seen it. Found a geocache in the shadow of the lock as well :) Very cool structure.
Incredible. Thank you to all those involved! This is an important piece of history. The Trent waterway was effectively severed when Kirkfield liftlock went down in September 2022. I can't imagine the complexities of working with century old mechanics. Your expertise and hard work is very much appreciated!!
Way 2 Go Guys ! I live not 2 far from the Largest Hydraulic Lift-Lock, Peterborough & du a Lot of Canoeing. Gearing up 4 a trip from Midland 2 Peterborough this Spring 2025, CAN'T WAIT ! B Safe Take Care 🇨🇦
I've lived less than 1.5 hours drive away from this my whole life. Never heard of this. No idea what or who uses this canal. From what this video shows its rich people boats. Useless waste of government funds.
Been on that one and the Kirkfield lift-lock also, I'm forever captivated and in awe of the the amazing work that was done over a centuary ago....totally appreciative of Parks Canada for their efforts in maintaining these wonders of technology and the pride they show in the preservation of history for future generations to marvel at 🤔
The Kirkfield Lift Lock handles western outflow of Balsam Lake towards Lake Huron on the Trent-Severn Waterway. At an elevation of 840 feet above sea level, Balsam Lake is the highest point in the waterway and also the highest elevation in the world to which one can sail a boat from ocean level (Atlantic in this case) while continously remaining floating on water.
no no pumps at all 2big tanks you see in the pictures !the put more water in the upper tank and less in the bottom tank and the weight lifts the bottom onethe water always flows from balsam lake towards lake simcoeas balsam lake is spring fed and the highest lake in the kawartha lakes and hers a warning never go swimming in raven lake between kirkfield and coboconk why it is a mud bottom lake and you can't stand up in it ask me how i know!
