And just 10 years later we see this very organization, the CLRG, crumbling beneath itself. Amidst cheating, abuse, and bankruptcy scandals. flop flop flop CLRG

It’s funny to think of it this way now, considering how wild things looked in the cupcake dress era, but this was the last moment before the makeup and wigs and tan got completely out-of-control.

My niece was in Irish dancing and ballet for years. Apparently, she received many small injuries. I believe it’s called reflex sympathetic dystrophy. She’s now in her 30’s and walks with a cane.

I loved the simpler dresses of Riverdance. I hate the wigs.

I adore our Irish dancing & started myself at 4 years as did my daughter and now my granddaughter but some l worry that with the cost of dresses, wigs & tan that alot of gifted brilliant dancers are not getting to show their natural gift because not all parents can afford these dresses etc & good Irish dancing is in your foot work & not these over the top Costumes & all that it now entails. I remember my father dancing on a Sunday in our kitchen with God rest him but he could dance & 3 generations of his daughter, granddaughter and now his great granddaughter. I don't want people to think that I am just one of those complaining people but I have seen fantastic wee dancers not able to complete because of the price of costumes etc.Have we gone a bit over the top because gone are the days of people like my Mother RIP who would have my hair in what looked like rags to put my natural long hair in ringlets for my fheis .

Ringlets were not compulsory either not all dancers had long hair. Just tidy hair was needed.

Riverdance did not change Irish dance, it took over the tap but Irish dance is much more, I know because I am Irish. Just dance. 'Dance, dance where ever you may be I am The Lord of the dance he' The Dubliners and ou beloved Luke Kelly.

Also I remember one feis early in my competitive career when Sue Fay Healy adjudicated for one of my dances -- not like that's an unusual occurrence, an ADCRG doing their job, but I was quietly geeking out because I'd watched this beforehand!

The rendition of Planxty Hugh O'Donnell Catie was dancing to always makes me smile when I come back to this. I'm a musician anyway, so I try to be as musical a dancer as possible, but it's not always easy when the music starts to take on the feel of a backing track... this, though, feels so sunny and warm that I can't imagine anything other than sinking into it and _performing._

God bless Michael Flatley and everything he's done to change the face of Irish dancers. It's because of what he did with Riverdance that Irish dancers have a the possibility to dance professionally outside of opening their own school. I saw him dance live with Feet of Flames, and he was electrifying. I started Irish dancing when I was 12 but started tap dancing when I was 4. As a tapper, watching him dance is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen in my life. Dance on, everybody!

Greedy people make big money from this, making sure that only those with the most financial resources can afford to compete. It’s shameful. BOO

I remember many, many years ago, I did Irish dancing at primary school as it was just part of the curriculum, I went to school in Dublin. In those days our mum's put rags in our hair the night before to make the ringlets. I'm talking circa 1980!!

This is six years old now. I wonder where these people are now. I'd love to start Irish dancing just for fun. I was too old when I first saw Riverdance to do anything serious but it's a beautiful art form and the music with it is lovely.

Pink Magic Ali Old comment, but Jessica Hindley actually just won Worlds this year! (I think Jack Quinn did too, but I don't tend to pay as much attention to the boys' competitions because I don't know any of them.) And I REALLY hope you have indeed started since you wrote this... I started at age 19, waaaaay too late to seriously aim for the Riverdance track, but I've made it to the second-highest level of competition at 25 and I'm planning on keeping going until I physically can't anymore! Best of luck to you ❤ Edit: I lied about Jack -- he's with Riverdance now.
