@ 0:55 my heart skipped a beat. I've been looking for N2078H, a 415C my dad owned. Other kids went to the playground, I went to the airport. N2077H, so close.
There are many accordion/ concertina players but very few really good ones. If we did manage to find a good one, it would be panic time if we needed a substitute.
Tuba Joe Jerabek started out as a clarinet player in school. Fortunately for the Sugarbush Boys, many years ago his brother, Tuba Dan Jerabek, taught him how to play the tuba.
Currently no C&NW steam locomotives are in operation. The 1385 at the Mid Continent RR Museum is getting close and the 175 in Owasso MI is just getting started towards its restoration. 444 in Colorado is in a museum and there are 2 at the transportation museum in St. Louis that will never run.
@@elleryparsons5766 there are a lot of steam engines that still run today under heritage railways, just not and CNW engines. In fact, in my home state of Michigan there are 4 heritage railways running steam engines within 3 hours of me.
Nice vintage film of perhaps the last C&NW steam operation? Thanks for sharing! I worked for the Chicago & North Western through nearly all the 1980s and consequently met a number of engineers that operated steam locomotives back in the day. With no exceptions, they were glad to see steam go from North Western. One engineer, who made it known he absolutely hated the "beasts" said, "the best thing the railroad industry did was to get rid of the steam engine." Interestingly, this same individual was a pilot in the Naval Air Reserve and flew aircraft such as the Grumman F9F-8 Cougar, jet fighter out of Glenview Naval Air Station in the 1950s and 60s.
Chicago & Northwestern 175 is a 4-6-0 class R-1 “Ten-Wheeler” Type built by ALCO in 1908. It pulled passenger and freight trains through out the CNW system. It was used for excursions in 1957. It was retired in the 1950s. Restored to operating condition for the Keweenaw Central Tourist Railroad with Copper Range #29. And was used with a Northern Pacific tender instead of it’s original tender. 175 was put in storage after the railroad was closed from operations. Today, 175 is at the Steam Railroading Institute for it’s return to operation.
All railroads are diesel today. There are many heritage railroads across the country, but as for freight lines they were all converted sometime around the 1950s to 1960s
