So funny to me that I used to question if audiobooks counted and now that's basically the only way I read. I'm glad I came around! I need to find time to post my TBR before the month is half over. I have more than one video just waiting to be edited. 😅
I found The Sun and the Star a bit disappointing, it wasn't wholesome to me, they spent 85% of the book not talking to each other and internally bitching about each other. Maybe it was partly because I read it while in my slump, but yeah, I was hoping for more. Gave it 3.5 stars Wow, that book is so tabbed!
I'm so excited!!! I've been wanting to do a readathon and this sounds exactly like one I'd like to participate in. PS - if anyone wants a recommendation for the disability rep prompt, I really liked True Biz by Sara Novic. It's about a Deaf school and the author is Deaf herself.
I enjoyed your chitting and chatting :) I'm currently on the used graphic novel and comic section of Scifier, so I'm sure to have a lovely haul for this month 🤭
Heart Iron sounds so intriguing!!!! You really made me want to pick it up! Definitely adding to my TBR ☺️ can’t wait to hear more of your recommendations!
That's a hard question, cause books I hated I think are fun to talk about, so I wouldn't necessarily want to have never read them, books that are meh and forgettable are probably a better answer for me
My book I wish I never read was Aztec. I didn't finish it (got about a third of the way through, and that was probably too much) but the scenes are SEARED very unfortunately into my brain. It's the book that turned me off historical fiction as a genre. I enjoy a good fucked up story, but this one really decided to start fucked and stay fucked. Under the Whispering Door, on the other hand, is the one I put into feels. I remember reading the last half on a plane and just sobbing and so many people around me asking if I was okay. Gosh, what a lovely book, and I'm so happy it's one that other people can't help but be affected by.
No need to apologise! I've not read one single word of Kate in Waiting, I've been super slumpy this month (because of The Merciless Ones, damn book) so yeah, I barely read anything. Glad you read so many 5 stars, makes up for the dnfs!
Oh yes! 100% I feel. I never know how I will feel about a book until I read it, and I feel like trying to predict the 5 stars too far ahead of time really takes the magic out of discovering them, and brings up more feelings of disappointment.
OH gosh, I have so many books I need to read this year, Right now, I have House of Leaves ready for July to buddy-read with a friend, I'm rereading the first two books of the Dandelion Dynasty so I can catch up to that series (oof), I want to reread the Hunger Games and annotate them, same with the Night Circus, and then a whole stack of books waiting on my TBR. Oh, and the third book of Stars of Chaos. The other one I'm currently working on is The Salt Grows Heavy, which is very short, but incredibly lyrical and dark, so I'm taking my time to enjoy my way through that. Halfway through the year, and still so much to read!! ah!
Oh no! I'm not really a dnfer but I just dnf'd a book. It was just meh, I had no thoughts whatsoever, and it's like a third way through the month and I've read one comic. So get rid of that book, and hope the next is actually good!
I adored the first book when I read it years ago as well. I'll have to add the series to my reading list again, and see if I can read them soon. Growing up I think my favorite fairy tale was The Little Match Girl or Rumpelstiltskin, but it also changed regularly as I read different collections of fairy tales. Another one I discovered as an older kid that I loved was the story of Snow White and Rose Red.
I have finished the first and second one and I’m on the third on the 100th page and so far it is the best one yet. The books only get better! Edit: I have finished the third book and it is definitely the best. It has great lore and added story. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! So good to meet Shawols nowadays <3
Oh, I had the exact same reaction to reading The Subtle Knife, even if my complaints were significantly different. I adore The Golden Compass, but I will never ever finish the series. It's a novel in my mind now. Heaven Officials Blessing is lovely, but you're definitely right that there are long periods where nothing really happens, lol. It's a funky approach to a detective novel, but the fact that the most interesting parts of the story are the romance and the backstories of a handful of characters really show the flaws in the writing. I adore it, but anyone who thinks it's perfect should probably read some other authors. And yeah, the Dark Romance aspect of Dark Heir is pulling me over to the ick side as well. M/S dynamics are a drop trope for me, and the ending is making my spine tense in all the bad ways. I have hope that C.S Pacat can pull a subversion here, since this whole series has been about not accepting something on it's surface, but it is toeing the line. I think it'll be up to how Will deals with it. He very obviously is different than his, uh, counterpart, and I think James being very domineering over their relationship at times gives enough difference that I have hope (the magic practice scene comes to mind... only CS Pacat could make that scene so sexy). So... we'll see. Fingers crossed for both of us! Great book haul! I adore your thoughts, and I'm glad this showed up in my recommended!
I did read some great books this month, though! I discovered a new comfort book: "A Taste of Gold and Iron" by Alexandra Rowland. Fantastic little political romance. The other one I finished right at the end of the month that stood out was "A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" which is just so rife with symbolism and philosophy it has my head spinning in circles. Full brain rot there. It actually has made me want to reread the Hunger Games trilogy, since I have a much greater appreciation for it now. Then some books I reread, since it was Finals month at Uni. The Queen's Thief series by Meghan Whalen Turner is always my go-to for rereading, then "The Bear and the Nightingale" for a class project. That was a fun reread, since I wasn't so distracted by all the Russian cultural words the second time around, I was really able to appreciate the story and symbolism better.
My suggestion is another TJ Klune book How to Be a Normal Person! Rick by Alex Gino (sequel / companion to Melissa, previously known as George) Teeth and Claws duology by Zaya Feli
Can we absolutely bring back and celebrate the 'fade to black'. I love a spicy book as much as the next person, if done well and the spicy scene makes sense for the book or the characters! But I agree that it definitely feels like so many books are being made spicy just because thats what's hot right now. I'm also Ace, and so many times I've been taken out of a story because the smut has been written in such a way that all I can think is 'wait, where's his other arm right now? Does so suddenly have 3 legs...????' but in fairness, not sure if thats a me-thing, and ace-thing or just a badly written smut-thing 🤷♀ Anyway - great video!
I wasn't a fan of the two Black Panther comics that I've read, and on my last unhaul I got rid of a lot of super hero comics too. Marvel and DC I don't really care about, I'm more of an Image / Dark Horse / Vertigo / Boom! Box sort of guy. I gave The Black Flamingo to a girl at work, it's good to pass on good books! FT Lukens is non binary, I read that book last month and really enjoyed it! If it's not super expensive p'n'p I would take Sandman volume 2 and 3 off you!
Yeah I don’t think I am in my comic book era 😭😭 I hope I can give to my library cos I would love most of these to be read over and over 🩷 Thank you, I was unsure about FT Lukens that’s my bad 😆😆 YES omg I can totally send them to you!
@@introvertedreader4432 I love comics but I realised that superhero comics are not the one. Amazing! I'll message you my address and then just let know how much it was to send 😊
I thought the Kane Chronicles were baaad 😅 I really disliked the way they were written with the sibs arguing after the fact, and I disliked how romancy they were, the girl was like 12 and was in love with several different people. That's not what I go to Riordan for! I want realistic slow burn! Hiding Six of Crows behind a random series?! Rude!
I knew, I just knew that you would comment about the Kane Chronicles 😆😆😆 listen ok I have my collector’s edition of Six of Crows which I will display proudly so don’t worry 😉
