It is a shame that at this moment England places so many restrictions on the entry of Portuguese into the territory of the United Kingdom, not only for Portuguese who wish to go to work but also as simple tourists. Knowing that the whole world appreciates the work capacity of the Portuguese and also for being a peaceful people. The famous alliance is dying...
Great historical video . Well done to the presenter and all involved . Truly amazing the friendship between Britain and Portugal . Long may the friendship continue between both countries 🙌❤️👍👏👏 . With best wishes . British Gibraltar UK Overseas Territory 🇬🇧
650 years of stealing the right to Port wine, Madeira wine and the Douro wines. Their own golf clubs, Polo and other societies never considering the Portuguese as equals. Brexit anyone? Kick the stinking British out with their flawed royalty. Portugal you owe Britain absolutely nothing! The debt has been paid centuries ago and now no one in the world is known as a moor! Sod off!
If you want to know the whole truth about Aljubarrota, I suggest you all to skip this piece of english propaganda and watch this conference attended Maria Antónia de Castro Athay de Amaral (from the Ministry of cultural affairs of Portugal) and organized by the National Archeological Museum of Spain, Madrid. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pp-a6FNi8vU.html Warning: Content may be disturbing to rabid portuguese nationalists. 👋🏻
Thanks for the memories! Never seen Taylor's. Pastene was everywhere though. Two glasses would get you where you wanted to go - in a hell of a hurry! Wake up late the next day with a major hangover and your head still spinning trying to remember what the hell you did last night. Amazing stuff.
Every time Portuguese travel through a mountain road, One joke cames on the way to entertain and relieve parte of the fatigue: It is said that every time portuguese workers asked their English boss for approval on their work, the English engenier would respond "Yess". That sound "esse" in portuguese wich means the workers would keep building the road in eternal S type, ( a lot of Direction chances and curves)
So we are the oldest allies...but here's a question: What are the 3 major foreign languages taught in the English public school system? Hint: NOT the language of the so call oldest ally/friend! Answer: French, German and Spanish! Yep, that's right our oldest ally honors his oldest alliance treaty by not even bothering to teach Portuguese in their public school system amongst other things, and by the way all the three foreign languages taught belongs to countries that tried, over and over, annihilate UK and especially one that not so long ago bomb the crap out UK...Germany...Well no hard feelings as after all we are indeed the oldest dysfunctional alliance ever known. PS Yes I love the British people they are amazing and kind but ...a bit of more respect from our oldest ally is not asking much wouldn't you agree?
It was suspended during the 1580-1640, when there was a personal union between the Spanish and Portuguese kings with Spanish kings sitting on the Portuguese throne. Consequently the Spanish armada sailed from Lisbon in 1588 and included some Portuguese sailors. England continued to support Portuguese claimants to the throne.
Maybe one day we, Portuguese, may ask your help one more time, this time, not agaisnt Castilian or napoleonic troops but, to help us expel illegal foreing immigrants...if this isn t an invasion, i dont know what it is...
Very well done, but I have a question. Is this treaty still in existance today as was speaking too a Portuguese lawyer who said it is not. even though in June last the 2 governments celebrated 650 years of the treaty and some in S.E.F. seem never too have heard of it. I live in Portugal and am English too and came here under the accord rules, yet a friend of mine who has bought a house here is having a great deal of trouble getting his Chinese wife here as some in Castelo Branco S.E.F. have never heard of the treat. And those of all people should know of the treaty. Is this a case of Brussels sticking its big nose into things that don't concern them or what. From what I have read about the treaty. A English born and bred person can move here without and trouble and bring their spouse with then and any dependent children regardless of the country of the spouse and vise versa. So if it still exists, why is my friend having so much trouble with getting visa for his wife.
It's a not surprising shame that limeys confiscated this Portuguese vineyard. They are merely doing what they have always done. The usa is england 2.0! Great upload thank you.
Not true, the Chickasaw and Tsalagi Nations in the North American Hemisphere had been the traditional ally of the British Empire in North America during the colonial age. The United States has rectified past conflicts with the U.K. in the latter 1800s, and the Arab Nations which were created by the British toppling of the Ottoman Empire and whose ancestors fought alongside them were products of British global policy and remain firm allies of the U.K and the United States. (Saudi/Jordan) . The English have many friends and have never been alone in this world. Nor should they be specifically maligned for historical grievances which are common to men. I know from the history of the Native American Tribes in my own ancestry, that we would have no ability to counter attack the French encroachment of our Nations in the 1700s without British arms... A very similar dichotomy existed with the Arabs and England against the Ottoman Empire. They are falsely maligned for doing what the whole world had done.
Many Tribes historically supported the French, many historically supported the British, and many were understandably hostile to both peoples. The Tribes which sided with the English are unfairly maligned in comparison to those Tribes which aligned with the French. Simply because the French lost the war... So they are perceived as worse of a victim than the Native victims of the French...
I am from England, have always loved Portugal, the nation and the people, I raise a glass of maderia wine to 650 more years, of friendship and protection, Deus defenda Portugal
The Portuguese are very welcome to stay in Britain, a good people and the oldest European nation - state and the first and last Empire, we,British did the right thing in helping Portugal, especially during the Napoleonic Wars, against fractured Spain. May Portugal endure with honour, essense and well - deserved pride!.
The first Lisbon Bishop in 1147 was Osborno, a former English Conqueror of Lisbon. The Rolins Moura, the first Luso English Family who rulled Azambuja and Vila Franca Region, in 1147 and 1200 chart of rights English helped Portugal too much,in the South. We should be grateful to some Nations and Peoples. We had being both in Roman Empire,too.Londinium...❤
And the result of this oldest "alliance" is: 2.1 millions of portuguese migrants around the world (20% of their total population). -Portuguese migrants in France: 640.000 aprox. -Portuguese migrants in Spain: 110.000 aprox. (and raising)
'Do not' buy Taylor's 20 year old Tawny Port in October 2023, sadly it is an appallingly overpriced, obnoxiously sickly mouthful, that will in my opinion, ruin the family name of all those tempted to buy it while on offer. Perhaps the reduction in price should have alerted me to the fact that something was obviously not right, but being at a major store, I thought I couldn't possibly be ripped off, how wrong I was. Had I purchased this bottle of supposedly two decade old plonk from a third world country village shop, for just a dollar, I still would have been unhappy. I'm certain Taylor's have either mixed up the batch, or they are simply selling off last year's garbage cheaply, prior to releasing the real 20 year old vintage this Christmas. Why the rant? We'll I'm bitterly disappointed. I've just arrived home after buying 6 bottles (as they were somewhat reduced) and I thought they'd make good Christmas gifts, but sadly however, I have no choice but to return all of them and will feed the one I've opened to a trifle or two, as that's about all it's fit for. The 20 year old I bought last Yule tide, was a robust, sumptuous mouthful of brandy laced Christmas pudding, with hints of toffee, walnut, orange and a more than obvious sense of age on the palate, like an old leather bound book, a pleasant surprise for a mere youngster in Taylor's vintage port family. There were none of those delectable refinements in the bottle I've just sampled however. The first sip of the vile, flavourless sugary syrup water, was enough to violate the palate of even the most unrefined port oficianado. I've seriously tasted better sherry, what a total waste of money. If you see this on offer, don't be tempted, or you'll regret it. Go for anything half the price and spend the surplus on some good cheeses to go with it, you'll be glad you did. Taylor's, what have you done!
