Friends Seminary educates students from kindergarten through twelfth grade under the care of the New York Quarterly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. In a community that cultivates the intellect through keen observation, critical thinking and coherent expression, we strive to respond to one another, valuing the single voice as well as the effort to reach consensus. The disciplines of silence, study and service provide the matrix for growth: silence opens us to change; study helps us to know the world; service challenges us to put our values into practice.
So glad you liked it! Few people can deliver such a speech -- Friends alums or otherwise -- but we like to think that he put into words what many of the other students were feeling.
It was an honor and a pleasure to watch and hear Christian Hoyos speak on behalf of his graduating class in the same room where my classmates and I graduated 58 years ago, although I doubt that many of us could have given such an inspiring speech as he delivered. I wish him a successful future.
Charlie and these courses kindled my interest in the law and entering the legal profession. They formed the foundations of my approach to the Constitution, the law and the legal system. Those lessons stay with me today. I am glad to hear that you will continue to teach these courses after you retire. Thank you!
