International Rivers protects rivers and defends the rights of communities that depend on them. We oppose destructive dams and encourage better ways of meeting people's needs for water, energy and protection from damaging floods.
All over the world development has come at some sort of a price or certainly some consequence. Kariba is no exception. Today the dam offers far more benefit to the region than the costs that were incurred.
JEHOVAH, ELSHADAI, ELOHIM, YAHWEH THE GREAT I AM OWNS THE UNIVERSE. DURING RAHAB'S REIGN OF ISRAEL JEZEBEL HIS WIFE CREATED A SIMILAR PATTERN OF WORSHIP THAT HAS MADE GOD TO WITHHOLD RAIN. THINK ABOUT IT.
The Tonga people are living large now , they are benefiting hugely from the fishing industry & irrigation schemes along the lake . She doesn’t know what she is talking about
The lower fish amounts recently are due to the hydroelectric dams, which block fish migration, and also largely due to the run off waste from the mining and agricultural pesticides. This river has been supplying fish for tens of millions of people for hundreds or maybe thousands of yeas.
Don't eat non veg. Don't eat fish. They have their's own life to live. They have feelings of pain. So don't hurt their feelings. They also have living things and all emotions. Don't hurt animals. SAVE ANIMALS. SAVE TREES. SAVE NATURE 🙏
I helped make a Documentary on Lake Kariba three years ago. Whilst we were filming,l traveled to Siavonga, and met with the Chief of the Tonga in Zambia. We spent the day together, one very interesting question l asked him was, If the Kariba Dam disappeared would you and your People be Happy. His answer was very surprising he said a definite No! he said myself and the Tongas realize the growth and benefits the Dam has brought to both Zambia and Zimbabwe. We most certainly would not want to see the Dam disappear!
I lived in Vientiane for a year , 1993. I worked there , I'll never forget it , the mighty river which ruled the rythym of the whole place. Magic , pure magic
Aparantly, the Kariba wall is structurally flawed and indeed moves about 1 inch annually. The Italian architect designed 3 dam walls in his life and committed suicide after one catastrophically failed. I have read that Kariba, too, will collapse one day. Due to its inherent instability. Knowing ZANU-PF I'm sure that they are well ahead in dealing with this! Haha! So the Tonga Gods will prevail. Nobody mentioned any specific time line. Don't forget Ecclesiasties: all man's efforts are in vain.
I am tonga I don't belong to mthwakazi or shonaland. We are unique in our own way. I live in Kariba and we are a lot here. Probably more than those in your so called mthwakazi. Its unfortunate that Kariba is under mashonaland west. We don't belong to neither shona or ndebeles..this should be renamed tongaland
I once met one Tonga, old man in Zambia who also told me this story. He has some of his relatives on the Zimbabwean side, he says the lake separated them.
