I will be working on my 77 R100 this spring and was wondering where you obtained most of your conversion parts such as your fender, subframe etc? Very nice build by the way.
Hey, First off: I really love the bike, it's looking so good! I know it's an older video, but I'm currently customizing my own R80 and I was wondering what exhaust pipes you're using/ where you got them? They sound amazing and look even better! Cheers
@@ThomasC Thanks for confirming, same with the rear brake pedal as well. Swap out for old style. Lovely build. It has given me some great reference points. Cheers
@@ThomasC I am most likely going to copy you on that. I will try and get hold of an old r60, 80, 100 centre stand and see if that will work in between the pipes and still lift the bike. Cheers
Hi Thomas, I have the same Vonzeti sub. What size bolts did you use to secure to the bike? I misplaced my hardware and don’t want to get the wrong parts. Thanks
Hey brother I have a question. I bought the same Daytona velona speedometer. Follow a nearly identical wiring to yours and everything works fine beside my RPM. It isn’t jumping all over the place. Do you by chance remember which wire you connect the rpm pulse to? According to the manual it’s should be going to 15 (positive) on the ignition coil tower.
Hey I just finished watching your video I have a BMW R 60 myself but I want to turn into a scrambler inspired by the job that you did. I don’t know much about names of motorcycle parts and things like that it would be great if you could actually if you could give me an idea of names and parts on how you build your custom BMW.
@@dannyjonze well I made these videos as a hobby and am not getting any income out of them. We´re not begging for subs or patreon donations. I already took the time to make them as they are and I make it possible to gather a lot of information just from my videos, this way people have a lot more info than I had when I built my bike. I´m not going to change everything specially for you...
Hi, It was a loose paper that the previous owner left inside the Haynes manual, so I didn't have to look very far :-) The stamp across the page says 2-ventiler . de, so you could try to find it there. If you put the video in 4K and fullscreen you could probably just take a screenshot of 2:02, I think it's all visible there. Good luck!
@@ThomasC Hi Thomas, Appreciate the reply. Worked perfectly with the 4K option.. I got by speedo wired up now thanks to you :) I can read in the comments that you used a resistor for the GEN light on you brothers bike. What was the resistor in OHM you used. One last question would be that you leave the port no 8 empty which is the "notausschalter"/emergency switch according to the diagram. What did you do with that? Thanks a ton. BR Chris
@@christoffermuhlbach1699 We just took the original BMW speedo apart and took the GEN lamp out, then we traced its wire all the way back to the diode board and shortened evertyhing so the light would fit inside that front compartment. Plenty of insulation around it and a zip-tie to hold it in place, works perfectly. I always put the Voltage on my display so I can keep an eye on the battery and if it's charging or not. About the emergency switch I have no idea, it's too long ago :-) If it refers to the kill switch on the right hand side of the bars, it works fine without anything being connected to the speedo, as far as I know. Good luck with the rest of the build!
@@ThomasC Sweet jeebus that was fast! Thanks.. I just looked into it.. Its because I just bought a R100 RT and its 19" front and 18 back. My old R80 Mono from 85 had 18 and 18 K60's on it.
@@ThomasC Oh and while I have you.. how did you get around the generator lamp/resistance with the Daytona? I cant remember if you mentioned it in the video.
@@zalobub if I remember correctly (it´s a year ago) mine worked fine without replacing it with anything else. I found it strange but since it´s a 1992 model maybe it´s a bit different from the older ones. On my brothers´ R65 (1986 I think) we did have to include the lamp into the system, I took the lamps´ housing out of the dash, wired it directly at the diode board and put the lamp in. It´s all insulated and works fine, he simply has a lit diode board now :-)
@@ThomasC I have to see.. Thanks. And on last.. LAST question.. Have you had any issues with running tubeless tires on the rims?.. or did you just use a tube anyway?
Hey! I love this build! Definitely a great source of info / inspiration. I was wondering how you like the Vonzeti subframe? I'm considering it for my '87 R80. My reservation is that I've read that some people think they're a bit flimsy / don't fit quite perfectly. What are your thoughts? Cheers!
What people think is right, both our subframes didn't fit perfectly and took some bending and fiddling to mount. The width of the top brackets does not fit between the brackets of the frame, so we had to mount the whole subframe a bit off-centre. Once it's in place it feels fine and very few people can tell it's not perfect. A local bike mechanic could have fabricated one for pretty much the same price, next time I'll get a custom made one.
