My favorite road in Georgia. Hope to see you up there sometime! You and lots of others that do the loop have so much more power than I do, but we all gotta take those corners at about the same max speed. I've seen GT3s, C8s, C7s, sport bikes, etc and I can keep up in my sub 300hp F23 BMW because cornering above 55 mph feels like you're about to fly off the mountain.
C7 is such a dream to drive. I have a 2014 with Z51 package and even that is great fun. I can only imagine a ZR1, or Z06 though I have read before that the Grand Sport seems to log best track times due to the higher horsepower Vettes losing time with traction issues.
Nice! I had a 2014 z51 too, before the Z06. Wanted something more track ready and tried several cars (Z06, base C8, Supra, cayman, M2 competition), and the vette still left me with the best impression. Don’t regret going with the Z it one bit. As far as grand sport vs Z06 lap times, Z should be a couple seconds quicker. The grand sport won’t be as quick but it will be more consistent. LT4 does run hot and needs you to do cooldown laps mid track session, or deal with ecu pulling power when the temps go up too high. The main dislikes I had with the GS are: the gearing (short 1-3, big jump from 3-4) where the Z is geared much more linear. And GS is down on power compared to the Z.
Thanks!! Car was solid throughout the weekend. Only gripe is It does run a little hot in these conditions, so looking at options to increase the cooling capacity.
Thanks! I keep experimenting between the vantage points and cameras to see what works best. The overlays are actually from the built in performance data recorder in the car. I used CapCut to layer in the PDR overlays on top of this GoPro footage.
Hi, thanks! No major cooling modifications. I had the intercooler circuit bled using a Cooler Bleeder to make sure there’s no air pockets in the cooling circuit. Outside of that, removing the trim pieces from behind the radiator and hood vent. Also running Boostane for knock resistance / reduce pulling timing when it heat soaks.
I have two questions, what was your approximate top speed and why were the long corners closed? I assume the corners were closed to keep your top speed down.
I agree with the person who said “stuck”, I didn’t hear this thing unleashed or much time in the 4500-6500 rpm range that would normally be used in hustling down those back roads
Hi Marc, the modifications (very few) are listed in the video description. To get a C7 Z06 ready for track, all you really need is quality brake pads and DOT4 brake fluid. There’s several organizations that rent out the track, provide safety and supervision and sell individuals admission to run on track throughout the day. Usually the time on track is split into run groups based on experience level in 20-30 minute sessions throughout the day.
Im 1.45 hrs away, debating on a run, i was up there today for Verizon. Blood mtn is so close but the cherahola is a work of art. Great runs! Great vettes! I got an ls3 cammed c5z
To prevent slippage from sweat on the steering wheel. Reason many use an Alcantara/sued material as they maintain a good grip when wet. iydk, ever drive with a leather steering wheel after conditioning it?
I've done this loop several times, and my hands always start hurting after a while because I'm gripping my steering wheel so tightly. If driving gloves are similar to padded bicycling gloves, then I need to get some before I do this road again.
The car became more stable and stays flatter in turns and under heavy braking. Car feel easier to drive with confidence at the limit, and more Consistent on how to make corrections when it steps out. I do think it’s easier to get it to slide on exit, so need to be mindful of throttle control. Overall very happy with the change for a very low cost. It is a bit of a pain to install though if doing DIY.
Thanks! Z runs like a champ overall. Regarding temps, just need to give it a cool down lap after every few push laps to keep the oil from climbing too much. I’m going to look into the thicker 2019 radiator from the automatic that supposedly helps drop temps a bit.
