I created this channel simply from my passion for fly tying and fly fishing. My day job had been as stressful as any job could possibly be. Don't get me wrong, I loved the work and the people I was fortunate enough to work with.

Tying flies gave much needed relief and release. My day to day worries tend to drift away when I sit down in front of my vice. I want to share the gift fly tying has given to me. You don't have to be perfect - you will see in my videos that I am far from that. You don't need to buy all of the nifty gadgets - I'll try to cover tools that I go to regularly and also try to provide some videos on how the tools are used.

This is a safe place to sit back, relax, learn, and maybe take on a new challenge. Welcome to our nation - the TroutFly Nation.

why don't you give proper credit for this fly, because you did not invent it. Although you never said you did, nevertheless one would believe you were its originator
@troutflynation7684
@troutflynation7684 14 дней назад
@@donaldnorman9515 Donald…. Thank you for your note. It is important. My work on the channel has two main purposes. The first goes way back to the beginning of the journey. Tying flies was and is a pastime that greatly helps my mental health. I suffer from PTSD and end up in my head a lot. Fly tying is one of the escapes I’ve found to ease the swirling thoughts in my head. Because of how much it has - and still does - help me, I wanted to share that with others that might be looking for help - an escape. The second is to share patterns that I find that are creative and productive. As I’ve gone along, there has been a time or two when I’ve developed and tested some patterns of my own, but nearly all are long-used and tested patterns that other amazing tyers developed. They are the ones who deserve the credit for the patterns, and I wish I could find the time and space to thank them individually for what I’ve learned from them - and continue to learn from them. With guidance like yours, I will try to be better about giving proper credit when I can. As you know, at times it can be hard to track down the original creator and developer of these tremendous patterns. Thanks again for your comment and holding me accountable. ………..Mike

Where did you buy the bobbin holder?
@troutflynation7684
@troutflynation7684 4 месяца назад
I always have a few bobbin cradles around, and vises typically have the same stem diameter. I never hesitate to take a cradle off of one vice and put it on another. If you don’t have any to use that way, you should be able to find a bobbin cradle online for not too much.

@troutflynation7684
@troutflynation7684 7 месяцев назад
That’s a good question. For me right now, I would lean towards the Renzetti Master. I have both. My frustration that has not been resolved after contacting the company many times makes the decision easy for me. Not being able to stop the vise head from swinging left and right on the Swiss Vise, I just can’t tie on it anymore. That’s a significant problem. Thanks for checking it out!

Awesome review! I have heard the same about Petitjean customer service, which is disappointing. How is this vise different from his Swiss Master Vise? One thing I’d say is that I believe his C-clamp version would work much better with your tying style. If you tie flies that make you really crank on that vise a c-clamp is a must. Really enjoy your videos.

he is correct ,a real caddis fly has a fat but and tapers down toward the eye of the hook. The length of the barbules on the Malord feather determines the length of the wing when you pull it through the resin nozzle. I use this same method when I'm preparing a "Wally wing " . I love doing Wally wings ,although there's one draw back with them .They don't last very long .One maybe two fish and their toast. So I tye a lot of them .Thanx for the pattern . Tight Lines.👍✌

Very nice looking fly, I am a new wrapper what does the wax do?
@troutflynation7684
@troutflynation7684 9 месяцев назад
Some threads already come waxed. Some tiers prefer it not be waxed - or it varies from pattern to pattern. I tend to use non-waxed thread, and add wax based on when I need it or it is helpful. Putting wax in the thread increases the grip tremendously, so it can be a powerful tool when you have a material that you really want to lock down. For me, a good example is when I’m tying in a hackle feather. I don’t want the stem I’ve tied in to slip or slide around. After wrapping the hackle, I want to take a few turns of waxed thread to help keep it in place so it doesn’t unwind before I can put a half hitch in. The more I tie, the more I recognize the help wax can give me, so it’s always right by my side.
