Avid Fly Fisherman demonstrating tying a varieties of flies. I'm more of a beginner to intermediate tyer. The steps I use in these videos are what works for me due to some joint issues I have with my fingers. I get my inspiration from books, Fly Fisherman, and Fly Tyer magazines. I like figuring out how to tie flies without instructions, which I then make videos for. I really enjoy Fly fishing for Trout of all kinds, as well as other fish. My aim is to help others with tying flies on their own.
Was this at bennett springs? I went last weekend and had some luck with larger dries (probably because of the cicada hatch) but most of the fishing was tough according to everyone I talked to.
if you go to Montauk, be sure to fish outside the park on the Current as well if you have a chance, you don't need a trout tag, but you do need a trout stamp on your fishing license, and less of a crowd, if at all
I've lost many of fish by reeling in the excess line and letting the fish just sit there, I know there's a chance it may tangle, but I'd rather get the fish in as quickly as possible so it can be released.
@@Noquanutflies you 100% have too much line out. There are a lot of areas you will have your line snag up and will cause you an issue in the long run. Also, it’s apparent have been making casts without picking up the slack, you will lose more fish in the long run dude. That is a garuntee.
been fly fishing for almost 2 decades, this video is more about enjoying nature, reflecting on questions I've been asked, and honoring someone who influenced me
You’ll catch more fish if you were to stop slapping the line on the water before your actual cast. I’d suggest this angler learn the roll cast pickup and one false cast and let it go.
this video was more about just enjoying the beauty of my surroundings, reflecting on questions I've been asked, and honoring someone who was a big influence for me to start a channel
I was standing there exactly one week ago myself, pulled a nice brown and rainbow right around the corner on a small BH PT. That walk down there however is getting pretty brushy! Thx for the video, keep em coming and tight lines!
I was there also on the 23rd of July as well, I'm playing catch up right now due to a new job and with harvesting, prepping and storing/canning vegies from my garden
Nice video. So no weight added - just stripping the crackeback high in the water column? I've had some decent luck in Ozarks streams fishing a beadhead crackleback, to get deeper.
I vary the depth by just putting the tip of my rod into the water column, and either wait a bit and then start stripping, or start right away and have the fly get lower with each strip. I try not to add any weight(s) as I've seen the fish chase the weight instead of the fly. You can also use slow sinking line with this fly as well to get the same results
2-month newbie. How do you fish this, and why? I have seen it work in another of your videos, but seems very different to the idea of letting a nymph drift in the current.
I usually strip it back in 3-6 inch strips, with a change of either constant or intermittent, I also sometimes will put the tip of my rod all the way down until it almost touches the bottom before retrieving it, if you have a slow sinking line , this will work even better. I use it this way because it woks for me(as you can see in the videos), some people will let it float on the surface first before retrieving it, but I put lead wire wraps underneath the braid first.
for me it's been white, off white, yellow, yellow/white, and occasionally yellow/pink. See my video " Using a fly some people hate" , I use this fly in that video(white)
I've found that fish die faster when you're squeezing the stomach by crushing the organs, than when you hold them by the outside of the gill plate, mishaps do happen, but if there's no bleeding from the gills , the fish will be fine.
I'm still learning on some of them, and of course I have my favorites. A lot of these flies I show I'm getting from either books or magazines, most just have a materials list , but no instructions on how to tie them, what I show is what I figured out how to tie them. Thanks for watching and tight lines!
