Would it be ok for me to silicone all the way down where the sheet and the glazing bar top cap meet just as a precaution? So basically doing that on both sides of the bars at every point where the sheets meet them?
Yes, it's not usually required but if you wished to silicone down the edge of your glazing bars and polycarbonate sheets you could. It is important that you use a sealant that is compatible with Axiome Polycarbonate Sheeting - it is recommended to use our Securbond Sealant that we specifically designed for this.
Thanks for asking, Waheed. We are using our Securbond Silicone, this is a premium-grade silicone that has been specially designed for use on polycarbonate sheet projects. It is important to use the right type of sealant when installing polycarbonate sheets because standard sealants will attack the surface of the plastic. clearambershop.com/collections/alukap-xr-glazing-bar-system/products/securbond-silicone-sealant
True! This video was shot several years ago so unfortunately before we manufactured a solution to combat the all the problems caused by standard sealants. We have since released our Securbond Silicone to improve waterproofing, the roofing sheet lifespan and the strength of the seal.
Corramet Corrugated Sheets are robust and a lot quieter than metal corrugated or other alternatives. Specifically on falling coconuts it is a hard one to tell! Ultimately depends on lot of factors such as the weights, heights and support structure involved.
True - the exact fixing you should use depends on your wall substrate hence that step is indicative! Follow the exact same procedure for installing the Top Wall Flashing for Polycarbonate Roofing Sheets and tweak the single fixing step to suit. For example, you will need to pre-drill the wall when using wall plugs.
Thanks. Im considering your Stormproof PVC or your Polycarbonates to replace my car port roof. Whilst the theory looks easy, daft question, but with a 3m slope run, after fitting the sheets, how do you access the top wall to then fit the flashing, given you can't walk on them? Any pointers appreciated. Thank you
Great question, the most common way of installing the Top Wall Flashing is by using a crawling board rested across the roof, to spread the load. This works best on a polycarbonate roof where the crawling boards would sit on top of the glazing bars. For Corrugated sheets, it is best to install the roof flashing as you go along. As each sheet is overlapped secure the Top Wall Flashing up to that point. Always remember to take the necessary precautions when working at heights. Hope that helps?
Thanks very much for response, I wasn’t aware they were weight bearing as you describe. Just bought Corramet for my shed roof. Look forward to seeing it fitted 👍. Thanks
Great question! It is always safer to go for more polycarbonate sheets at narrower widths for stronger resistance against rain/snow loading and wind uplift. This also helps towards making your lean to roof last longer. We would rarely suggest going above 1m widths and for thinner thicknesses, like 10mm polycarbonate, we would suggest much narrower than 1m. Hope that helps?
Ultimately, the right sheet width to use depends on the thickness of Axiome® Polycarbonate Sheet that you are installing (plus location/structure type etc.) so please contact our team directly via our website for more specific help: www.clearamber.com/contact/
Our Rock N Lock Flashings for corrugated sheets are available to buy through a wide range of Distributors and Retailers. If you still can't locate one that suits feel free to contact our team: www.clearamber.com/contact/
Thanks, you can either use our Securbond Flashing Tape or Securbond Silicone Sealant to complete the final step of sealing of the Top Wall Flashing. For this video we choose to go down the polycarbonate sealant route, however, our Video Team may run a future video on the flashing tape alternative option.
Thank you for the question. We supply our polycarbonate tape through a wide range of distributors and retailers. Easiest to give it a quick search online, the product name is: Alukap-XR Anti Dust Breather Tape - 10m Roll. There are different thickness tapes for different thicknesses of polycarbonate sheets. If you are struggling please reach out again to our Teams via email. Hope that helps?
Using Alukap XR Fixing Buttons is optional and depends on the roof structure. They are primarily used to strengthen the installation of the polycarbonate sheets by securing to cross purlins where the sheets/rafter spacing is wide or the roof is in a windy location. With a sensible Axiome Polycarbonate width and thickness they aren’t usually required. Trust that helps?
Thanks Myles, we haven't yet, however, will pass the suggestion onto our Video Team for future. You may find this video helpful though in regards to the best way of flashing against the back/top wall on a polycarbonate roof: www.clearamber.com/news/135/How-to-install-Snapa-Top-Wall-Flashing-.html
Thanks Myles, great question. Using polycarbonate fixings alongside the Snapa Glazing Bars is optional. If you have a sensible polycarbonate sheet width and rafter spacing they won’t be required. However, if your sheets are wider or in an exposed location then the Alukap XR Fixing buttons can be used on purlins to reduce the risk of wind uplift. Hope that helps clarify?
Is it possible to install glazing bars and sheets one at a time from underneath ? Im using the snapa glazing bars and my lean to is 4m wide and 2m long
Yes, it is optional whether you screw the glazing bar back to the wall. In the main, installers don't tend to and just seal along the top edge with Securbond Silicone Sealant to prevent water from running down the side of the polycarbonate roof. If you want is quite uneven securing the wall plate back might be advised. Hope that helps?
@ClearAmber perfect thanks, starting my lean2 project this weekend ready for winter. 3.2m x 2.5 I'm doing lead flashing into the brick work so should be fine as it will go over the bars.
Thanks for the question. You are best to always install Alupave Aluminium Decking on a low pitch say a fall of 1:100 to ensure a good speed of drainage. Similar to flat roofing there is always a slight pitch. It is best to check with local regulations as well in case there are specific building regulations that apply for your location. Trust that helps?
Thank you for the video. One question: do you install anything on the end of polycarbonate sheet where it meets the masonry? I can’t figure out if I can leave it like that because there will be flashing tape on top or whether I need end stop bars there too?
Yes, you would install a Snapa Top Wall Flashing to seal over your polycarbonate sheets at the back/top wall. This helps prevent water from running down the wall and creates a proper waterproof flashing. If you were using Alukap XR Anti-dust breather tape on the bottom of the sheets you would also use it on the top. We also have a How-to video about installing the Top Wall Flashing which you may find useful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cHzVnv2VXv4.html
Great question - it depends on your drainage set up. Most installers run into a hopper as that gives the most flexibility. This can be done either out the terminating end or by using an end cap both sides and creating a hole in the base of the gutter. There isn't a specific connector yet for downspouts, mainly because of the varying types available. For more information on our Alupave Aluminium Decking check the range below: www.clearamber.com/browse/tc-ALUPAVE-434/
@@ClearAmber Thanks. I have a 1st floor, raised balcony/veranda deck to repair and this seems perfect. It's currently done in Trex composite but has been put on a base of what looks like OSB which has swollen. That looks like an attempt to create a ceiling for the space underneath, stop stuff falling through the deck gaps. It's also been clad with uPVC on the bottom to make it look nice.

Damn it! I looked for two weeks and this never came up. I just finished covering a large pergola with Tuftex corrugated material. No one has the onduline and no one has this material either. This is what I needed.
Sorry to hear - they would be been perfect! The Corrapol-BT and Awnapol Bitumen roof sheets are very popular for pergola roofs! Our Corrapol Stormproof Sheeting is also great if you are looking for a clear corrugated plastic option and will outlast corrugated PVC sheets by years. www.clearamber.com/browse/tc-CORRAPOLCORRAMET-405/
