My name is Marauderz, and I spend my time writing code, playing games, fooling around with gadgets and playing with my kids WZ and WH here in Malaysia. The by product of my exploits are found here!!
That's great! You could use those straps/bands used in bags, they have an adjustable length and with an elastic strap material, you could make this into a really good product
@@marauderz thats true, another alternative is just to try to make lapdock from a broken laptop, but I guess it will take much more efforts than your setup (like getting hdmi-in pcb and connecting it to lvds connector of the display and making up the keyboard and touchpad into a basically a usb-c dock).
so I am not alone in those researchs, lol. But you got further as after my tests I concluded, that I need to build a pcb, that should input either 19v external power or usb-c pd 20v, convert it to 19v and charge capacitors and output 19v to mini pc) and ideally, be able to charge powerbank while external power is present. but looks like such powerbank will be faster to get) still lacking the smbus support to notify pc to be able to switch between power modes though, hehe, but this is the cost of such modular setup)
Yup, it was either make a lot of the electronics and stuff myself or... just get a powerful mini PC that can run off a powerbank, and a powerbank that actually works with it well!
hi, 20w on idle is quite high. I have minisforum s500 with ryzen 7 5825u and on idle it can draw ~4watts (in linux with gui) in powersave mode. Sometimes it can draw even lower, so my powerbank turns off the monitoring screen thinking that there is no powerdraw at all. At the same time, booting consumes 40+ watts untils OS will turn power modes on. tldr: I have bases powerbank with pd 100w / 37wh capacity and was able to run S500 for ~5 hours from powerbank and there were like 10-20% on powerbank after I had to drive home. And I was using uperfect lapdock as well. My dream was to use powerbank as an UPS and be able to unplug power from the wall without powering off the pc, but being able to charge powerbank while external power is connected. In reality, there are a few seconds for my powerbank to determine whether it needs to be charged or discharged, leading to cutting the power from the pc. So I can plug external power while working from powerbank without powercut, but not vice versa. Plus, there is an instability on powerbank's side which decides if it should be charged in or charged out... so in reality, there should be a charger pcb to be able to switch between power sources and be able to charge the powerbank when there is an external power connected. and power delivery -> 20v trigger -> diode -> 19v + capacitors (to be able to act as a source for a few seconds while powerbank turns off/on yet again) - is probably the simplest and stable way to power the mini pc (ie, not the usb-c pd in directly on the pc, as there are issues with charge in/out negotiation)
Thanks for posting this. I really didn’t want to have to throw this away because my grandson uses it. It’s the safest one I’ve found for a child. He’s 9 but has used it for about a year. I really appreciate the time you took to make and post this.
Yoooo this is just what I'm looking for. I'm new to fighting games and thriving on fightstick compared to controller, but I've been having so much trouble getting off Z-motions on joystick and thinking of alternatives. I've already got a screw-off stick for throwing my fightstick in a backpack, and this looks easy enough to attach with maybe magnets, so it could be borderline hotswappable. Zero commitment, and the option to switch for one input or another depending on what game my friends have gravitated to lately. It's probably going to take me years to get around to actually putting this together, but it's nice to have a plan!
@@TalzBlaze have you not seen my other video where I found a power bank that’s perfect for running the UM790? CUKTECH 20, THE Power Bank For Minisforum UM790 Pro? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-blL076XJ5Ic.html
@marauderz hey, do you happen to know why it is that some powerbanks reset their power upon the connection or disconnection of cables? Why is that. I see that the cuktech has usb power delivery (PD) but they also have Programmable Power Supply (PPS), perhaps this added tech is what allowed continous power when you plug and unplug?
DUDE you are doing the exact same thing that I've been trying to do! Definitely need to see your setup going through some productivity workloads. YOU ARE DOING GOD'S WORK
I had a Pokeball JUST like that in like 2001 from Toys R Us. Transparent top, a Pokemon stadium on the inside with two small acrylic figurines of two Pokemon across from one another that illuminated when pressing the Pokeball button. It was really neat.
