" I can't argue with an idiot. It's like talking to a squirrel. " Very direct, and well-spoken. I wish I had said that. But then, " Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he { cannot } enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ' You must be born again. ' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. " Goodbye Mr. Reed. RIP ?
Why was he such a downer... It's like he makes people work for his time, and if he finally feels like he likes them he will be just a little bit nicer 😂
While I understand his perspective, I think it is a skewed view of human nature and what people want. Of course, there is huge suffering in the world, injustice, jealousy, pain, etc. But is that what most people want to see when they go to the theatre or cinema? Most want to escape all of which we are bombarded with every day in the news. They want to see love, romance, bravery, moral courage, and ultimately happiness. European are always trashing Americans for their "happy endings" in film - but what is the alternative, clinical depression?
Ok Lou, you're up there with Shakespeare right ? And elsewhere you've said you don't like Beatles and that the British shouldn't play rock n roll. Lou Read was as pretentious and ignorant as his guitar playing was crap
Lou is such a stoic person to interview, one of the most difficult people to interview. He seems to be so controversial in his answers…not a happy man.Don’t get me wrong I love his music.Tracy will never forget this interview.
A fearsome assignment interviewing someone who hates to be interviewed and is so controlling as to insist on having the questions BEFORE the interview. We know Lou hates being asked dumb questions but that policy takes all the spontaneity out of any interview to its detriment as well. So well done, Tracy, you handled a hard task well.
Berlin , a true master piece : when do people understand this.😬 It is one of the best studio albums ever made ...... It is a pitty he did it live at this late point in his live where he wasn't that good anymore ; that goes also for Dick Wagner ..........his singing was bad , he can't play guitar very well so it was not that good when you compare it to the album Berlin. The life performance did no honor at the album.
"What would that idiot think of (the ending of) Hamlet...Macbeth...Streetcar named Desire...It's just so stupid....I can't argue with an idiot, it's like talking to a squirrel. What do you think about Othello? (The same thing) Well, DUH!". Perfect.
Lou was a gifted artist and as with most talented people he was sullen, irascible and ill tempered. Having said that though he suffered ill health and was most likely in pain and endured discomfort. I believe this interview demonstrates his professionalism in that he could have walked out after this lady crossed the line with the insulting reference and "depressing" comment. He was clearly triggered, as expected, but cleverly put her in her place. Respect should have been given and maybe a bit more homework on her part and she may have fared better.
I'd have loved Lou Reed and Mark E Smith to have met each other. Both prickly characters with an intense love of literature. I'd imagine there'd be a lot of mutual respect. But they might have been too similar to get on. We'll never know now.
