I proposed building a new general use facility when I ran for city council which could have replaced the aquatic center, hockey arena, curling rink, city hall, civic center, theatre, so that the land could be repurposed for housing, commercial and office.

It's great that the meetings are recorded and us the citizens of Merritt can watch later BUT can something be done with the sound quality?

If I lose my house because of the next flooding because Merritt funded your building instead of building up the Dykes, you sure as shit should sacrifice a couple little lumps on the ice, for that kind of money

Thank you Mayor Linda Brown, CAO Sean Smith and all the councillors for the support of the Hell or High Water Fundraiser. We are happy to announce we have received 100's of positive comments from locals, musicians, dignitaries and organizations as far as Australia congratulating the community of Merritt on their resiliency and professionalism of the Hell or High Water Fundraiser. We believe the benefits from this will be felt for months, if not years, down the road. Thank you Merritt for your love.

This is the type of deep dive many of us needed to hear and see. The way things are explained in this video helped me personally understand the reasoning behind some things and the sevarity of the situation as a whole. Ps I also appreciate how serious the coming weather is being taken into consideration as I know many are concerned over the coming rain storms causing flooding yet again. Thank you for this I look forward to more like this

As if you understand shame on the mayor and city council...
@widescreen247
@widescreen247 2 года назад
This is all the mayor's fault. City officials and council members new years before that there would be parts of merritt that could be flooded, yet they did nothing about it. They raised roads by lions memorial park a couple years ago because of flooding, but did nothing by the Coldwater River, where the treatment plant is located. Every single year coldwater river almost floods it banks. Where is taxpayers money going to?
@zzz7zzz9
@zzz7zzz9 2 года назад
also, every early spring, we are put on water restrictions, because supposedly the coldwater is so low on water. but then, when businesses are looking to come into the city, miraculously that is suddenly not an issue at all. how on earth were multiple cannabis facilities going to operate here, needing lots of water, when we are always on strict restrictions? and how can the city even consider growing, at all, if we don't even have a water supply for the size it is now? they are either lying, or they are the worst city planners ever.

Thanks for the conference, good information. I would like to comment on the taxpayers from area 3 who have have made the decision to stay. They completely understand that the infrastructure is being repaired as quickly as possible. For the most part they have adapted to the lack of supplied water and sewage disposal. It reminds me of my farm days. However, what gauls most people is that They are locked in like prisoners and denied access to food and water supplies. None are denying that the powers to be are doing their utmost to get everything up and running. Just let us get some groceries and drinking water.
@zzz7zzz9
@zzz7zzz9 2 года назад
this. those who stayed are NOT criminals, they broke no laws. yet the city of merritt, along with the rcmp, have done many things to treat them as such. going to the extent of literally trying to "smoke them out". telling the pharmacy they were NOT to supply anything to the people who stayed. telling canco to close it's pizza shop, so they could not feed those who stayed. no frills opened, to make goods available, and the city said, "but only for first responders, NOT for those who stayed". police and city officials did not go door-door, like was suggested early. a proper thing to do, would have been to go door-door to know, and have a count of those who were still in town. they are all still residents. VOTING residents, by the way. residents who will not forget how they were treated during this time.
@ronaldanderson8679
@ronaldanderson8679 2 года назад
this is all BS mayor treating those who stayed like concentration camp inmates , no food no water and NO MEDS all because 1500 or so dared to go against her orders, and i hear she has censored Mike the other member of her administration DICK TATER and her rcmp tatical goon squad to keep us penned in, there is 1500 votes she wont get next election
@zzz7zzz9
@zzz7zzz9 2 года назад
@@ronaldanderson8679 alot more than 1500. a common thing said among those who CHOSE to leave, was that they wish that they had stayed. and the longer they are kept out, the angrier they will become with the city. EVERY resident whose homes were not touched by the waters should be back in their homes at the same time. this dictating of making areas and groups who can return when she decides they can, is just another example of city council wanting to control. it was -8C last night. people's flooded homes are freezing. it's ridiculous that they are not in there cleaning. instead, they are being locked out, and will be TOLD when they will be ALLOWED to go clean their homes. and where's the reports of the looting that was happening? just sweeping that under the rug. or how about the police officer that harrassed a local. and the resident then asked for the officer's card, which he was given. then, it turns out that the card he was given, was not that officer's, but another policeman's. so, is that not impersonation? why is that not being looked into?
