I've been saving up my bacon grease to make soap with. Now, if I mix sawdust with it too.... That is the most American thing I have ever heard! Yeah, I'm doing it. Gonna use some earthy essential oils with it. Maybe some patchouli and aspen.
As a wood turner, I love turning eastern red cedar. As long as I have very sharp tools, use the highest lathe speed I can safely, and take my time, I can turn out some very nice projects. Here in VA, I can get it free from my property or from neighbors. It's my second favorite wood to turn. Cherry is my first. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾
I made this stool yesterday. It was a really fun project and it was my first woodworking project. Took me all day to make and I think I used every tool I own. In my opinion, and more importantly my wife’s, it was well done. My wife wanted it to be her stool and she didn’t want any finish on it. So it’s done and has that IKEA look to it. I just kinda made up the measurements as I went along and just made sure the pieces were the same size. I used my planer and pocket hole jig for the first time. I’m sure if I did it again it would go faster. Thanks for the video it was really inspiring.
I buy my cherry on second hand market, old furniture for a cheap price. I use the cherry for shipmodeling. It is a beautiful wood to use. Even to use for carving. And I agree it burns easy when you saw it or sand it machinal. Thanks for this informative video.
Thanks bro. Noob Carpenter here. My desire to go clickity clack with those sandals is astronomical. I shall make my wish come true now thanks to your helpful video!
Do you spray with a shellac after getting the shape you want? My 20 year old 'Australian Outback' hat is looking pretty beat and needs some seroius blocking, stiffening. I was thinking of steaming, reshaping, but was concerned it still might look pretty limp and bash not so defined. Any advice appreciated!
i've seen elmers used in woodworking like filling in holes, but like been confused for like 15 minutes before looking this up and even now just stumpted what even
Just being picky at this point but they are called plugs when they are solid tunnels when there's a hole in the middle and saddles when they only sit in the bottom like a horse saddle this is an awesome video either way keep in mind to measure the length of the plugs too not just gauge size to make sure the plugs aren't too long now I need to make myself some plugs... oh and certain woods cause allergic reactions too.
We have been lied to by the wood industry. There is no wood species known as "Eastern Red Cedar"! "Eastern Red Cedar" is a misnomer. It is a Juniper, specifically "juniperius americana". If you do not believe me, look it up in a reputable reference book or look on Wikipedia. And we all should know this and refer to it as it is, Juniper.
Pure tung oil does well. Real pure, not the big box crap. About 5 or 6 coats. Thin the first two coats 50/50 with mineral spirits. Then two coats at 70/30. Then final coat or two with 100% tung. Let cure between coats. Entire process could take a week to ten days. Well worth the effort.
I recently just purchased material for a wool felt Indiana Jones hat that I am going to attempt to make (never have done it before). I am currently working watching your video on you making your first hat and I appreciate the step by step instructions! Could you possibly make another Indiana Jones hat and make it a tutorial video? Your Indy hat look absolutely amazing! Thanks!
