Hi @jack91522, thanks for stopping by and checking out the video! That’s a great tip; start folding before complete the rack before completely removing it. It’s definitely a bit of a flaff otherwise. Great detailed video, thank you, I think the locks are easier to remove if they are installed from the other direction so you are not between the car and the bike. You are correct about the lock up high in the event of a tire deflation while driving to keep the bike from falling off. Another idea that is necessary with a 1-up is to push the rack into the tire before trying to release the red lever. Makes it easier to get the bike off

Hi mate, I’ve been looking for a video with this content since I got my i4 40 last Monday. I am totally ecstatic with the car, absolutely masterpiece of engineering and a luxury to drive, that said the range for me is absolutely demoralising and disappointing because I was told like yourself I would get around the 300 mile on a full charge. I did a lot of research on this car before I decided to go full electric, I travel to from Bristol each day but 75 mile round-trip so based on my research the i4 Trump all of EV models. I have literally emailed my dealership today to say that they have misled me this Car and I possibly I’m even tempted to hand it back to anybody reading this message. Please take note the miles you will be quoted up to the point of sale are not what you get. I have set all settings on basic and even being turning off my heating system, I mean what’s the point of having the car if you can’t use its functions as you are anxious about the miles!?
@FlyingScotsmanPNW
@FlyingScotsmanPNW 5 месяцев назад
Hi there @big-g6, thanks for stopping by!! I couldn’t agree more; the i4 is a magnificent car - the fit and finish, the ride quality, the acceleration and handling (though you can feel it’s weight) are all amazing. But I also agree, the range is disappointing. The day I collected mine, it showed 260miles - but I’ve very rarely seen that since, only on long road trips where I’ve been able to travel at a consistent speed (65mph - the speed limit in WA is mostly 60mph) in warm weather. Right now, it’s showing 196mls @ 80% charge - so if I scale that up to 100%, it would be 245mls. I definitely get range anxiety on long trips; but that’s more because of the poor charging infrastructure than anything else.

I’ve had the M50 for a month now. Considerable increase in range and battery retention when you spend 15-20 reducing all the unnecessary settings from factory. Eg, the windows dropping half way down when you open a door, the brightness of the HUD, reducing the ambient lighting and screen brightness in dark etc etc, I made lots of changes without sacrifice the enjoyment of the car and it’s a lot better now

I’m coming up on almost 18 months of ownership; I love getting behind the wheel of it today as I did on the first day I picked it up. Last year I saw the range improve with the warmer weather and in the winter range decrease - pretty normal behavior for an EV. I’ve done a couple couple of trips in it, and I definitely suffer from range anxiety; but honestly, that is less about the car, and more about challenges with the electrify America EV charging network

Based on my experience, the range with the heater or AC on is not terribly impacted when the driving mode is set to ECO (for very long drives) or Comfort (under 200 miles) and your speed it reasonable - going with the flow of traffic is generally good enough for battery range efficiency.

Been an EV owner for almost 2 years now. A few things to note: the range is a very rough estimate and is very dependent on many factors - including driving style, AC, wheel size, weight, battery size, freeway v city, etc. The advertised guess range is usually under ideal conditions. What is your wheel size? A few recommendations: 1) Since this is still brand new, was wondering if you can post the AVG Miles/KWh (as opposed to the range) after a few month’s driving. This will give you a more direct indicator of your car’s efficiency. If you’re _Averaging_ over 3.4 mi/kwh, that’s pretty darn good. _Theoretically,_ if you’re avg 3.4 mi/KWh x 81.5kwh (net useable battery capacity) _should_ yield you an average 3.4x81.5 = 277 mi range. 2) What is your avg speed after 2 months of driving. This will also give an indication to other drivers that may have similar driving styles.

@FlyingScotsmanPNW Год назад
@ghn1013, hello! Thanks for,taking the time to share some best practices! I was driving a Tesla M3P for a couple a years before the i4 and they are very different in the way they report range. Month over month, ,y consumption is pretty steady,at 3.1mi/kWh ~ 3.3mi/kWh, which according to the MyBMW app is in line with the community average of 3.2mi/kWh (unknown if that’s just i4 M50 owners, or all i4 owners, and in what region). Unfortunately I don’t have the data from the Tesla, so I can’t compare. I’m planning a longer driver in the near future - a few hours on the interstate, so I’ll see how it fares. I might record and share my experience.

Good video. I just bought the ix50 (big brother of the i4😊) and had some similar experiences with Electrify America. A bit of confusion about whether or not to use the MyBMW app or the EA, but recommended is to use the MyBMW app. Also, I initially was not able to charge because I tried to sign in at the charging station as a “guest” vs a “member”….just thought I was a guest and they kept asking for my credit card. Then BMW app suddenly stopped recognizing my verification code/VIN and had to get the BMW Genius guys to completely reload all my info which took a couple days. Still a bit of pain and confusion just to get started, but now feel much more comfortable w my charging experience and loving the idea that I charge for free for 2 years and will never have to buy gas again. My only other gripe is that where I reside, the EA stations can get a bit crowded and there’s always that one individual that just lets their car sit their for hours while they shop or have dinner. So annoying and disrespectful.

On the one occasion I made a longish trip, I set off with 176 miles range and arrived at my destination 60 miles away (and about an hour later; I wasn’t going slowly) with 200miles of expected range left (yes, it went UP) Clearly the displayed expected range is being affected by the disproportionate use of charge early in the trip to warm up the battery. Although I do precondition as BMW recommends …and it is coldish at present 4-7 degrees C I’ve got a longer trip (120 miles each way) coming up later this month, will be interesting to see what I get. Just don’t believe the predictive software. you actually need to drive it to get the real range. Tesla Bjorn tested the M50 range in Summer and winter at different speeds - the summer video has the aggravated data and it can comfortably exceed 300 mile range in the summer if not driven hard, and in excess of 250 miles in summer appt high speed. Winter range ofc was worse, although better than the car claims… Tesla software does this better: BMW has no equivalent to the SOC against distance driven graph a Tesla can display that makes it easy to see if you are over our underperforming against expected range.

Hi Gothmog2! Thanks for commenting! So your 90% charge state is about the same mine - ~275 miles or so. I'm hoping that as more and more i4s are sold, BMW can gather telemetry data, refine their algorithms and include it in a future OTA update. I have a road trip coming up, which should allow for steady speeds for quite a distance - I'll be watching the range and consumption very carefully. I'd love to see BMW include the estimated vs actual range chart similar to what Tesla does. I'd love to hear back from you after your road trip.

Hi, I'm from New Jersey. I also owned a 2022 Tesla 3 LR. I got my i4 M50 delivered on the day after Thanksgiving. Since I have charged i4 5 times to 80% but the total miles I got were getting less and less as the weather temperature drops. This morning was 142 miles at 8F. I got only 53% (Half) from 270 miles as advertise. I'm so disappointed with BMW. I got 10 more miles if I set to eco mode instead of comfort/sport mode. Base on the mileage the car should shown 53% not 80% because it can only drives 142 miles. The car drives great but BMW lies to the mileage. ☹☹☹

Yeah, I’m still figuring out the mileage estimates; it’s definitely contrary to what I was hearing before purchase that the ~270mile range was conservative. Hi @jaimevaldez, typically, on my i4 M50, I see about 190 to 200 miles range at 80% charge. I found the most effective mechanism to extend that long road trips is (1) obviously charged 100%, (2) put the car in Eco pro mode, (3) drive conservatively (aka no heavy accelerator usage!) and (4) maintain a constant speed on the freeway. I also observe a noticeable increase in range while driving at 60 mph vs at 70mph

Hi! I had a Tesla Model 3P before this - which other than the acceleration, I really never loved. I found the M3P to be like a toy car - cheap feeling and not well built. Plus, there were things I came to hate - like you had to do control everything via touch screen, with menu options that would change and move around (messing up muscle memory) and I disliked the handling and ride quality (I always felt it was very unsettled). I actually couldn’t wait to give it back. The BMW though - I love it. It’s in a different class altogether. It’s fast - maybe not quite as “brutal” acceleration as the M3P, but ride quality and handling are vastly better than the M3P. Sure, the BMW doesn’t have a frunk, but honestly I never used it on the M3P, and the trunk on the BMW is vast. I highly recommend test driving at your nearest BMW dealer.

Charge it to 100%, drive to a charger approx 200 miles away. See how much range you have left, charge up, drive home, be happy. If 100% of the time you are driving 5-15 miles stopping letting battery/cabin cool off, getting back in heating it back up driving the 10 miles home, over and over again, the estimate will assume you will continue to do this. If you need to take a long trip, you'll only be heating your battery/cabin once or twice.

Love your car man! Gorgeous colour combination! My own (San Remo) due to be delivered next week. Some trivial questions: Is it possible to turn off the ‘open/lock’ chirrup? I do some very early starts and can see that being unpopular. Do you have comfort access? From the video I couldn’t see the charge rate on the machine, although I was able to see it on your dash. Charge rate varies (as I understand, from Bjiørn Nylands videos) on the current charge state of the battery, and crucially whether it was preconditioned prior to charge. As you used Sat Nav to get to the charge station I figure you already know this (!) as the navigation also triggers the preconditioning. What is the meaning of the colour coding of the LED in the charge flap? I’ve no idea whether BMW UK offer a similar free charge scheme - I think at the moment it’s perhaps not.

I have comfort access - so can access/unlock using my phone/watch, plus key - I've not looked into switching off the chirrup noise; it's definitely loud. Actually, I just downloaded Drivers Guide App on my iPad - and looked up the car manual, and yes, you can turn the chirrup noise off. The color of leds on the charge indicates the charging state - whether the car is charging, and whether it's reached full charge state. You can access that from the BMW app as well.
