RE: Refinishing original period Weihrauch checkering. Simply get yourself a few Italian rifling files and just take your time. Actual checkering knives can really BODGER up the works. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ I've seen WAY TOO MANY Fine old Weihrauchs with the diamonds needlessly pecked out. That's a Mk I mate... They don't come around often enough, and the original finish quality was actually quite nice. 😌 Plain old Minwax oil based Poly will honestly give you a fine finish. 😉👍 Modern Poly formulas are way better than they were in the early 80's. You'll have to bleach the wood to get a true blonde finish, but Weihrauch always used a Select Quality Beech in that time period, so it's worth the added effort. 😃 Bluing can be rehabbed to a Master Blue finish with a combination of Oxpho Blue liquid and Cream formulas. Mostly the cream w/ 0000 steel or bronze wool. But comes out remarkably nice.😮
Hi Karlos, thanks for subscribing! I have got it back together and have some video to edit and get up to show the next stage. It's needs to come apart again as there are some issues but I'll update as soon as I can
