Combining the raw power of American music with the thrill of the open road, Down The Highway is a dynamic music interview show hosted by musician and motorcyclist Ian Harrower. Riding city to city on his 1967 Triumph TR6C, Harrower interviews American roots music icons like Jonny Wickersham (Social Distortion), Exene Cervenka (X), Keith Morris (Black Flag/OFF!), and Grammy-nominated Phil Alvin (The Blasters). The show spans genres like jazz, punk, blues, country, and folk, with guests ranging from musicians to influential guitar makers and artists. Each episode delves into the personal, musical, and cultural influences that shaped these legends, offering insights into their life in music. Down The Highway masterfully blends Harrower’s passion for music with the adventure of the open road, creating an inspiring, must-watch web series.
love his music and impressed by the fact that he is interested enough on his audiences to learn about the basque country and to care to name them by their own name: euskalduns
this is so cool. 72 years old and grew up and still live in so cal. still have the first blasters vinyl. lots of other Phil and Dave recordings. seen them in and out of the blasters a lot. one of the coolest was Phil with Brownie Mcghee at mcabes. the blasters opening for the kinks at the old l.a. sports arena was awesome. but clubs was the best. but the song at the end of this...omg. so amazingly raw and incredibly intense...will stop there. thank you so much for an amazing watch and listen.
EVERY Catholic school had a Sister Mary Antanita, 60 years later I still have the scars to prove it! 😰 The Blasters, what a fantastic band! I saw them at the Fire House in Ballard, Wa (Seattle) in the late 1980sa after i saw them in Streets of Fire, what a great show, they did not disappoint! I searched high and low for the Non Fiction CD for several years but could not find it, and FINALLY I found a copy! I love it!
Thanks so much for giving us such a cool look into this legends life, Awesomeness 💚 I just donated to his Go Fund Me...Please help him if you can. GET WELL SOON PHIL.
Sorry to hear that Phil has not been feeling well lately. He is such a musical titan and great representative of rhythm and blues. This interview is probably one of the best at explaining his story and point of view.
WHITE LIGHT, WHITE HEAT, WHITE TRASH...is hands down one of THEE best mastered albums ever. When you play that album on your headphones, with the volume and bass high!!! WOW ITS just an amazing album. I believe it was mastered by James Saez!?
Keith Morris is the life coach most of us look up to because we need him to remind us that we are the natural reaction to a society that hates us for existing on our own terms.
National treasure. I think he's as authentic as they come. I've met and knew Johnnie Johnson, Albert King and several others and they all were just "good guys". Phil is the same way.
Ian is awesome! He used to cut my hair when he was an awesome barber too. Jonny Wickersham is an incredible musician too and a tremendous human being for being able to go through so much and still be standing tall.
Exene understands the best that punk was a celebration of early rock n roll, country, and art, poetry, literature, together with all the creative arts. Punk was younger, smarter, tighter, funnier, and more aware than all the complacent corporate rock the 70’s produced. The diy scene was about being yourself, regardless of marketing or trend. The early punks had nothing so they had nothing to lose. They had no fear, just energy.
I listen to this vocal performance often! Amazing pitch, vibrato and the sound quality is so great you should put this on record as is! He’s truly one of the great American vocalists!
