well, the question in the title, is a resounding yes. You are a hoarder for sure, If you cannot get rid of a single Skein, and continue to move it from here to there and back again without letting go of ANY of it, your issue is pathological. but at least it isn't garbage and cat poop like some hoarders. I would take that as a win, I guess?

Hi Faery Vixen 😄 But the thing is - I can let go of it, but I have to crochet or knit it first. I have crocheted at least 30 tops and sweaters this year and given away over half of them. I love giving away the things I make. 🤪 Maybe that makes me even more pathological. 🤣 But yeah, no garbage, cat poop, or dead mice. 🤣

Hi Ginger, I think you have some really wonderful and wise insights in this video as to why yarn can become a problem, and that’s so important. Thank you for the honesty here because I think it can help a lot of people who are overwhelmed by possessions. It may be helpful to think of it this way: We love objects, but they cannot love us back. As crafters we think of endless possibilities but we do not have endless time, and if it has been years since you’ve gotten a particular skein and you haven’t acted on the possibility, then it’s OK to let it go and free yourself. If when you unloaded the garbage bags you found skeins you forgot you had, then it’s OK to give them away, let them go, free your physical and mental space. I think the real test of whether something has become a problem is, is it controlling your life and bringing you more stress and financial burden than it is bringing you joy? I think the most important thing right now is to stop buying new yarn, cold turkey. Don’t even go into the stores. Like an alcoholic staying away from bars, you have to be strong and keep away from the temptation. You have to turn off the faucet that is making the tub overflow or else you’re never going to control the flood. If you are pattern testing then I guarantee there is something already in your stash that will work just fine. You can do it! One day at a time. Someone commented that the one with the most yarn when she dies wins - no, that person just leaves a burden of STUFF for someone else to have to deal with. People love us, things cannot. When the things are stressing out the people, then the things aren’t worth it anymore.

I have an idea for you maybe you could once a month or two times a month put four or five skeins enough to make something into a little bag and bring it to salvation army for somebody that doesn't have any yarn or means to buy it that would be a good sharing just saying.

Not sure if this will be helpful clarifying if/when to purchase more in the future: you can log about how much yarn you go through in a typical week/ month etc, and if you are pretty consistent, you can figure how much you'd actually go through in your lifetime. Say you're really industrious and go through ten skeins in a typical month, that's 120 a year. If you live to be eighty and you're about 30 now 😉 you could expect you'd need a max of about 6000 skeins in your collection. If you've gone way over that number, you might want to donate some each time you purchase more. Just an idea, particularly for those who can't dedicate two full rooms to just yarn. Love watching your process, glad it's bringing you joy, you know better than anyone how much you really need.

Wow, I learned to let it go, donated bags of acrylic yarn to volunteer group in the Bronx, NY to use for children’s clothes and gifts. I no longer buy ‘on sale’ acrylic yarn as I most likely will not use it. I am now working down my indie dyed yarn and wools. What a great feeling!

I love your channel and you are great, but you are doing same job 3 or four times. I mean instead of throwing yarn in the direction where it eventually will be stored, put all of the similar yarn in a basket or a box and place it in the correct spot. Organizing is great, but , over 10 hours over several days, just too much.

I am always so jealous of the yarns and the sales, available in the US. I just don't have access to so much variety where I am in Canada. Of course, I just need a car to get across the border, but that's as possible as having a big box yarn store that is closer to me than half an hour away.

This is a long shot, but, I'm reduced to that now. I have fallen short on having enough yarn to finish a project. It is I LOVE THIS YARN, 100% acrylic, color way 742/SANDY GRAY. The dye lot will probably not be an issue. It's been discontinued by HobbyLobby. I wonder if you might have 1 skein on hand. Name your price +shipping if you do. I'd be very grateful.

That was so much progress! After you get under the table organized, I hope you are satisfied with where things are and start sitting in the rocker and knit or crochet. Being even "more organized" would serve very little purpose. As you use up yarn, and start to see spaces opening, you can shift some things from floor piles to shelf piles. Do any of your kids or grandkids knit or crochet? They definitely should be embracing the family craft. I don't know what to think about your mom having four times what you have. Unfortunately, we don't live until the stash runs out. Someone will have to deal with it when she is gone. Perhaps it is time to hire knitters and open an online store of handmade knit items or scout out charities who could use the yarn or knit/crocheted items, like senior centers, hospitals, nursing homes, town recreation departments, places dealing with migrant influxes in the north. Look forward to seeing these rooms empty out and the products the yarn created!

Omg you so need to make a short video of you collapsing in to the yarn & laying there until your arm reaches up lol ... I was listening to you talk about taking photos, collecting plants, etc I have been exactly the same! I have thought it was because I don't have kids & was trying to fill that void as everything I collect requires looking after mostly! But yes, I have felt like I'm drowning in some things as I've not organised it ... And yes, I love organising & I love looking at what I deem are pretty things - yarn! You are really helping me with going through your thought process, etc ❤ Susannah

Do Not go on hoarders!! Those people just want to get rid of things, they say you will decide and behind your back they are getting rid of your stuff. They don't respect collecting things, the money time and energy that goes into it. They simply don't value that at all, they only value empty space. In my opinion.

Ngl...all of that yarn gave me anxiety. I thought I had a fabric problem, until I saw this video. 😂 I have stopped buying fabric a long time ago, and now sew for (some) people, just to get rid of the fabric. Good luck with all of that yarn. Looks like you have the drive to get it all up on the shelves, and stored, so good for you! I agree with the poster who stated this is a "yarn library", and getting it coded would make your life a lot easier when looking for the "perfect" yarn for the next project. Looks like you're almost there and done organizing!

Your stash is on steroids. You are not a hoarder as everything is trying to have a space. But has it occurred to you that you do not need all this yarn. You will never be able to knit it all in your life time . I love shopping for yarn for the next project it sparks joy knowing I have enough to actually make what I have in mind . You do you and however you get joy.
