Samos airport is a very difficult airport both for landing and take-off due to frequent turbulence. I have personally experienced this during stays in Samos! In the time of Olympic Airways, pilots in training were subjected to this trial by fire!
For some reason when I went to Lesbos (Mytilene) we did two fly arounds before we landed so I assumed it was a tricky landing as no other flight in front of us or taking off. We pretty much disembarked near the top of the runway which has netting at the end of it! Fortunately coming back it was a takeoff in the dark so I couldn't see, but there was our flight and a Dutch flight all arrived in departures at the same time, one average size room with 700 people plus luggage a boiling hot nighmare, 700 people had to stand for over an hour and no air con. We only had to walk about two yards to get on the plane haha. Fortunately our flight took off first. It's such a small airport there's only room for 2 planes to embark or disembark at any given time.

flew there in September 2016 from Vienna on the know defunct Air Berlin. brought back memories. used Samos as a base to go to the island of Patmos on a two week trip of Europe from Canada. the pilot informed the passengers before hand about the landing.
